I'm hoping someone can tell me what they mean by the "10% goal" when you are on Weight Watchers. As I can't afford to attend, I have been following the program on my own since January. However, I have only have the limited POINTS information provided in the cookbooks. I saw a reference to this 10% thing on the e-mail newsletter they send out.

Is it 10% of your goal or is it 10% of your starting weight or what?

Thanks

It's 10% of your starting weight.

For instance, we celebrate when someone starting at 250 pounds drops their first 25 pounds. That's a milestone that really makes a difference!!

Thanks. I'm well past that...so I guess I'll celebrate now!!!

Wow- I just read your signature!!! 58 pounds since January is an AMAZING accomplishment, and definitely deserves celebrating!

LOTS of celebrating. But not with food.

Way to go, TaraBelle!!

Thanks very much. I am down another 2 pounds - (I weigh in Monday nights after dinner...was very happy as I had a not-so-strict week)...so that means I get to change my signature, I think! I have to figure it out. Yes, I'm down 63 pounds and when I started WISH it was 53...it would have been easier if I had joined at an even number!

I try not to celebrate with food anymore. I have an easter egg in my fridge that I bought on sale just after Easter and was going to eat at 50 pounds and then put it off to 60 and now....who knows? Hopefully it keeps a little longer (it's still sealed).

Hi TaraBelle! :wave2:

You can have lots of 10% goals. I will use myself as an example.
I started WISH at 236 so my first 10% goal was 23 pounds. When I hit 213, I hit my first 10% goal and set my second one for 21 pounds. When I hit 192, that was my second 10% goal. I am currently working on hitting my third 10% goal number of 173 (192-19=173). The 4th 10% goal for me is 17 pounds. It just keeps working like that. The goal amount gets smaller because I am getting smaller!

I hope that explanation helps. :teacher:

Thanks. That makes sense. I just worked out that I've made two of my 10% goals.

Thanks. It's not as close as I'd like but it's not that far off either. I just calculated that I have between 5 and 6 10% goals (#5 is not quite my goal and #6 is a little bit beyond my goal). I should make goal #3 by the end of September at the latest. Hopefully goal #4 by the time I go on my cruise.

Just to expand on what Kathy said...

WW celebrates small goals, one at a time.

Each 5 pounds you lose, you get an award. (Very much like WISH clipart! :) ) Instead of clipart though, you get a bookmark for your first 5 pounds. For each additional 5 pounds, you get a gold star with a 5 on it.

To expand on the 5 pounds - they have special awards for your 25, 50, 75, and 100 pounds. They have special magnets.

When you have your initial weigh in, rather than asking you to set a goal-weight, they ask you to aim to lose 10% of your starting weight. When that is acheived, you get a keychain.

You then get a charm for the keychain after 16 weeks. It's called your 16 week stay and succeed award. The charm is 2 hands clapping.

Your next charm comes when you hit your goal weight. You then get a star charm for your keychain.

Finally, you get the Weight Watchers key to success charm for becoming a lifetime member. That's the pentultimate WW award. When you become a lifetime member, you never pay more than $9.95. However, as long as you weigh in once per calendar month, and are 2 pounds above, at, or under your goal weight, you can weigh in for free. (If you miss a month or are more than 2 pounds over your goal weight, you pay the $9.95 fee)

Hope that helped! :)

OH! And Weight Watchers celebrates accomplishments that are NOT numbers, too!!!

They have silver Bravo stickers for other celebrations. For example, when I celebrated not having to shop at specialty stores for big men, I got a silver bravo sticker.

Thanks for all of the info. I do plan on joining but can't afford to do it until I am much closer to my goal. It's hard enough being able to afford new clothes for every size I go down.
