Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Hello Lean Meaners,

Tracey - Sorry to hear that you have to have surgery after the 1/2. I hope you have a speedy recovery. :goodvibes

Beth - Your race tonight sounds like a lot of fun. Enjoy! :cool1:

Happy New Year to all of the Lean Meaners!!! party:

 Happy New Year Lean Meaners!

Cindy....Wow, 18 days off! You lucky girl. I hear ya on the holiday food and then tonight we'll be at another party with more yummy food popcorn:: . Well, tomorrow's another day! The Jillian Michaels' DVD set sounds great. Does each DVD work a specific body part or are they just a variety of all over workouts?
Beth...For me, the TV is the thing that makes the TM tolerable. What an awesome DH for making dinner. My kidlets are destroying the house as well and eating, eating, eating.....who knew 4 kids could consume so much food;) :lmao: ;) !
Jeanne....sounds like you had a full house.
Mike...my DS was reading over my shoulder when you posted how many weeks you train for an IM. He would like to try one in the future and didn't realize how long it takes to train. That's a huge committment and those pounds will drop right off.
Julie...I think my little one has passed his cold on to me "again"! I hope your household is healthy. It makes it hard to get the workouts in.
Maria...no homework for us over the holidays either. Poor kid and poor mom when you have to work on school stuff. I have mentioned how much I dislike school projects? Yay, for SMom coming into town and watching your DS, I didn't realize (actually, I probably forgot) that you and DH were getting time away by yourselves, too. I sat watching the Disney parade the other day with tears running down my face and asking my DH, "Whatever made me think I can go to Disney World w/o my kids?" He reminded me that once I get there it will be nice to be just the two of us;) Do you have any nice dinners planned?
Jeff...Have an awesome time in Maui!
Deb...I think we should adopt the "foraging and grazing" terminology around here. It honestly looks like animals have been in my kitchen....there are crumbs, glasses, and nut shells everywhere! Thanks for the well wishes...no, no chronic pain, just girl stuff that needs to be taken care of. I just want to get it taken care of as soon after the 1/2 as possible because a group of my girlfriends want to go with me in 2010 for the 1/2 again:cheer2: . It's fantastic that you're leaving for WDW on Sat. Have a wonderful time and I'll see you a few days later.
Have a great day everybody.

Hello Everyone,

At my WW weigh in on Monday I was up 4.6 lbs from the previous week. I had given myself permission to splurge, but I didn't think I would gain that much. What took the first 3 weeks of Dec to lose took me 7 days to gain. Ugh. So when I got home from WW I ate everything I could possibly find. WTH??? Yesterday I got back on plan counting points and running my speed workout, then I wound up with a stomach bug which put food out of the question for the rest of the day. Not that I enjoyed the puking, but I was happy that it eliminated any cravings I had. Unfortunately I'm struggling again today to stay away from the sweets.

I now have several Jillian Michael's DVDs and I like them all. The 30 day Shred is very tough. It has 3 levels and I've only done levels 1 and 2. I struggle to keep up with it and don't feel like it's something I could do every day although based on the title of it I think that's what they intend. The other DVDs come in a set of 5 titled The Biggest Winner (I think). I've done the first 3 so far. The first works on your backside muscles, the 2nd on the front side and the third is cardio kick boxing. I think the 4th and 5th do more for backside and frontside. The workouts are only 20 min each and seem relatively- dare I say easy - during it although I've been pretty sore the next day so I'm sure it's working. Since they switch off muscle groups I feel like I could do them every day. Given a choice between the DVDs I'd recommend the 5 dvd set especially because the price is just $24 for all of them. It also includes a lot of nutritional info as well that you access on your PC.

Tracey: Sorry to hear about the surgery. Hope the recovery is quick and easy.

Beth: Good job on the late workout. How nice for your DH to cook. Enjoy your race tonight. It sounds like a great way to bring in the new year.

Maria: I can't imagine that 6 years or 106 years would be enough to stop thinking about your Mom, especially at this time of year. Hugs to you.

Happy New Year to all the Lean Meaners. You have all meant a great deal to me this year. I am hopeful that with your support 2009 will be a very healthy year for me.

Cindy

So, Meaners, the New Year's eve race was awesome! I really wasn't enthusized when I got there......it was FREEZING! But, my ds#2 and I went for it anyway......the race was a HARD two miles, with one killer hill that went on forever. But, as we raced into the town square, there was all kinds of people there with fireworks going off. DS and I finished strong, with fireworks in the sky! Nice to run into the New Year!

Beth

Beth: Congratulations on your running into the New Year. What a cool way to enter 2009, working hard toward your goals, with your DS, and with the reward of a supportive crowd and even fireworks! Very symbolic--it foretells great things for you.

Tracey: I'm glad that your medical situation is relatively minor, and that you have a girlfriends' weekend to look forward to for the 2010 1/2 marathon! And you'll just love your time at WDW without the kids! Sure, you'll miss them, but (as your DH said) you'll get to have couples time together. Did YOU plan any nice dinners? Disney is a great place for leisurely dining, romance, and other niceties (mroew)!

Cindy: Thanks so much for the information in the Jillian Michaels DVDs. I like to hear what people I know think of new WO DVDs before I try them. And one of my fitness goals for 2009 is to keep changing up my routine and avoid the ruts I get into.

Hello, all my Lean Meaners! :yay: I hope you've enjoyed your New Year's and are making plans for 2009 (not resolutions, goals and plans!)

As for me, my New Year's was low-key--we were in bed by 10.30. :sad2: It's not a big celebration for us, probably because we're packing and whatnot for Disney. We did see a movie today, Let the Right One In (Swedish vampire flick, what fun). We shared a small popcorn, no butter, and had diet Cokes. Caffeine, my Achilles heel. That's got to stop post-marathon.

Tomorrow, DOOD and I complete our last LSD before the marathon. We're not tapering because our training was so sporadic. WISH me luck!

Good LUck, Deb!

I am so sorry, Tracey. It is just awful to have to have surgery.

Congratulations, Beth! What a great way to start a new Year!

Cindy, Good luck with the WW, it is so hard to stay on track! But you can if anyone can!

I Have been missing, but I have been working. My slovenly lifestyle finally got the better of me....or maybe it's the worst. I still only gained 7 lbs, but I lost a LOT of muscle and gained fat. Oh well, been here, done this. At least my shoulder is finally beginning to feel normal most of the time. The doctor has released me. Yippeee.

I hope everyone has a great time in WDW!

Haouli Makahiki Hou from the island of Maui.

I didn't make it out on the midnight run last night as I had hoped. Sleep just seemed the better option.

We got up, and did our Polar Bear swim. Must have been 76 degrees out at 9:30 am when we hit the water. Probably 82 by noon. My keiki were in the pool for about 7 hours. (Roger, these are for you).

While the family stayed at the pool, I headed out for a 8 mile run. Hot and humid at 2 pm!

Ha,ha.....isn't a Hawaiian Polar Bear swim somewhat of an oxymoron?

I've always wanted to do one, but figured with the usually mild NC climate it wouldn't count.

Day two on Maui...

Went to a goat farm, my kids loved feeding the "kids".

Went ziplining, it was a blast!

Drove up to the top of Haleakala National Park, where the summit of the volcano is 10,000+ feet up. 42 degrees + windchill. Felt about 20 degrees.

Maui, day 3...

52 miles one way, on the Hana Highway. 104 miles of winding one lane road. Whew, are we tired!

Maui, day 4

We had a fun time on the Atlantis Submarine in Lahaina.

We skipped the Sugar Cane steam train ride, as the keiki were a bit tired. So we went to visit buddy of mine and his keiki.

On the drive back, we stopped along the highway lookout, and saw five humpback whales. No photos, because they were just too far away for my camera to catch them. They were breaching, so huge splashes could be seen from where we were. (These pictures are from 2008).

Hey all!

Finally back after 2 weeks in NC! tried to check in from my crackberry a few times but my posts kept getting eaten!

Holidays were good, but am SO SO glad to be home. I was sick with a hideous cold for the first week (and am still coughing! ugh).

I braved the scale this morning. Looks like I am up about 5 pounds. not too bad and I know for certain that some of it is water weight. Have not been hydrated well at all due to the super dry conditions in NC, and the amount of :drinking1 :drinking1 I did. The thing that annoys me the most about these 5 pounds is that I have been losing these same five pounds over and over again since early november.

I haven't caught up completely but will try to soon! I will be meeting some of you VERY soon! :scared1: :scared1: (that would be a scared face for the 1/2 and the fact that I've run very little the last 2 weeks due to my cold, NOT a scared face for meeting you!)

I did see that Debra is back though! Hi

Jeff: Your pictures are beautiful. You are a vacation maniaic!

Amy: Hope your cough goes away......stinks with a race coming up! PD to you :wizard:

Debra: Good luck to you!!!! Knock 'em dead!

I have the day off today.......might actually take off and watch a movie!

Beth

to being leaner...my kids already think I'm too mean.

First day of Ironman training. Got in a 1600 yard swim in 40 minutes...supposed to be 30 according to the training plan, which clearly is written for maniacs, elite level athletes, and/or idiots. While I'm not sure exactly which category I'm in, I KNOW I'm not an elite level athlete.

Anyway, training partner invited a friend of a friend to swim with us. This guy clearly could have swum in any division one school, as he was blowing away the guys that I KNOW are former division one swimmers....Yikes! He was literally doing 250 yards for each of my 200s. He is training for a 10k SWIM; I thought I was silly for attempting an Ironman...that is just crazy!

Anywho, have a wonderful day/week/month/year.

Current training thought: We become the things that we repeat, so excellence is a habit!

Mike

Mike

I :lovestruc this! What a great quote. Mike, you're off to a great start. Swimmers completely amaze me. Happy training.

Cindy....Ewwww stomach bug. I hope you're better by now.
Beth...that New Years race must have been fantastic. What a great way to ring in the New Year.
Deb...You're gone by now, but if you're checking in...I'll see you soon.
Connie....
Jeff...Oh my gosh, I'd love to zipline. Did your kiddos think it was awesome? Great pics.
Jeanne....You're a brave woman to even think about a polar bear plunge. I'd be afraid I wouldn't be able to breathe.:scared1:
Amy....Glad to hear that you're not afraid to meet us;) . I'll admit that I'm a little nervous about walking up to a group of people that I haven't met in person. Drink some orange juice and feel better quick.

I'm in the midst of cleaning, packing, and getting the house ready and full of food so that my mom doesn't have to make any extra trips while she's watching the boys. I'm also dealing with a lot of anxiety in preparing for the trip, race, and worrying about leaving my kids behind. I think I may need to :drinking1 . I'm a horrible plane traveler and usually need to have a good strong drink before boarding :rolleyes1 , but drinking 3 days before my flight seems a little crazy!:lmao: Have a happy day, all!

Hello Lean Meaners,

Cindy - Those Jillian Michael's DVD's sound great. :thumbsup2

Beth - Your race sounds like it was a lot of fun! :cool1:

Debra - I think I was asleep before 10:00 on NYE. It's definitely not a big deal in my world. (I need a "boring" smilie here to describe me  ).

Jeff - Great pics - as usual. Want to see some pics of my icy, snowy back yard? :rotfl2:

Jeanne - If you ever want to do a Polar Bear plunge, come on up to Boston. They do it every year. I would never have the courage to do it though. :scared1:

Amy - Sorry to hear you have a cough. Two of my kiddos had a cold/cough that seems to linger forever. :sad2:

Mike - Good luck with the Ironman training! :thumbsup2

Tracey - I could have written your post today, except for the flying part. I'm in the middle of cleaning, grocery shopping, packing, writing out instructions for my mom re: school uniforms, after-school activities, etc. I really do not like travelling without my kids - I always worry that someone is going to get sick or hurt or something. I actually love to fly, but I also love to :drinking1. It's a good thing I don't need a drink before I fly because my flight leaves Fri morning at 6:40 AM. I just can't imagine having a drink at that hour.

Hello to everyone else out there. I am really looking forward to meeting as many Lean Meaners as possible this weekend! :goodvibes

Last day on Maui, day 5. (You all must be glad to read that :lmao: ).

Now home unpacking, and packing. That's a first for me.

One day at the office, then will be catching the 10 pm flight outta here. Arrive Wednesday afternoon.

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!

This is probably my last check in before we leave for marathon weekend. It's my last day at work, so that's also a bonus! I'm taking tomorrow off (unfortunately we are having a sleet storm), but that will give me time to pack, make sure everything is ready, and hopefully relax a little.

The back of my knee has been giving me trouble since I did my 10 mi on Saturday. It doesn't hurt per se, but it definitely feels a bit strained when I walk, and pops sometimes. I'm hoping yoga today will take care of it.

I am so excited to be doing the Donald for the second time! I can't wait to meet and regreet everyone at the Pop meet! This is going to be a total blast! For those of you not joining us, I am so sorry we will miss you!

Jeff -- Your vacation photos rock! What a wonderful time for your family! :woohoo:

Julie -- The 10 miles actually went well, I was so happy I finished. About mile 8 the back of my knee started acting up, but I was determined I had to do it. I also felt like I couldn't run another mile, but I could walk three more briskly, so I think I'm all set ;) I will be writing out the directions tomorrow, just like you and Tracey. Luckily for me, ds is old enough he knows what he should be doing and when. In addition to our family calendar, ds has his own appointment book. He loves it! This kid is definitely growing up to be a Disney scheduler! :smickey:

Tracey -- We have one more grocery trip and trip to Target before we leave. I realized I need new cheap sunglasses, and who knows what else I find when I start packing? The toiletries always get me. I really think I have everything, then I forget something totally obvious like my toothbrush, and bring a sewing kit :lmao: Best of luck with your surgery. Please put it out of your mind and just enjoy marathon weekend!

Mike -- I love your training thought! Excellence should be a habit. Far too often, I just strive for "good enough"...:rolleyes1

Beth -- The NYE race sounds like a great time, even if you weren't all that excited when you arrived. I would find it hard to be awake, let alone enthused! :worship:

AmyK -- I hope you continue to feel a little better each day. We will be meeting soon! :grouphug: And you are going to blow the Half away, just wait!

Connie -- I am so glad to hear your shoulder is mostly back to normal! I know it has seemed to take forever, and you will be very happy to get back to your usual energizer bunny self!:wizard:

Debra -- How was your last LSD? I am just glad it's over. I think enjoying copious amounts of libations is an excellent strategy for dealing with the ILs. I'm hoping everything goes the way you hope with them! pixiedust:

Cindy -- Are you ready for BL tonight? I love to see Jillian, she could whip me into shape with just her little finger!

Jeanne -- I can't wait to hear how the race turns out for the Greek! I hope he has a good time! :cool1:

Ok, everybody be safe, have fun, and I'll be chatting again before we know it!

Maria :dance3:

I think Maria and I were issued the same lousy set of knees...production quality must have been off for that run....
