Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Morning WISH Team!

I am seriously depressed today. Hopped on the scales and I was at 202. I'm putting that out there to hold myself accountable. I hadn't been over the 200 mark in a long time after losing 120 pounds. Training for Goofy I have been so hungry and I've eaten just about everything in sight. I also started adding calories after runs or before by having chocolate milk to recover/get me some calories before running. You guys don't have to hold me accountable, but if I tell my teammates it will get my butt in gear.

My weight is also concerning me at my ability to finish. I keep running my distances and what's odd I've gotten faster in most distances.

Seriously ticked at himself Goofy!

(Sorry if you might be reading this for the second time)

Chris: I hear ya with the weight gain......I actually gained 25 pounds while marathon training......no one gets why! I was so hungry......well, ya know. I actually lost 70 pounds before that.......it was hard watching that scale go up. Don't worry.....it will go back down. I am still in the process of getting it down, but it is...... I stepped back a little and had to prioritize. I needed the extra fuel, and I wanted to do my marathon. So, now I am concentrating on getting my miles in, while watching what I eat.

I didn't get to see anyone else's posts.....I will check them out now.

I did get on the elliptical yesterday......and added 10 extra minutes than my typical hour......needed the boost! 70 min and 7.5 miles!

Beth

Chris: Sorry to hear about the scale. In all 4 of the marathons I trained for I ended up gaining weight. Partly it's physical, my body needed more fuel, but a good portion of it was psychological I felt I earned the treats I was having. You are right that it will be easier to cross the finish line if you don't have to carry any extra weight around. Keep reminding yourself of that and do the little things that helped you lose your weight in the first place. Write down what you eat, watch your portion size, drink lots of water. Just be diligent and you can at the very least stop the gain. Good luck.

Wendy: Get back on that bus, boat, train or wagon. Now is the time to stick with it. The next 3 weeks are prime healthy eating time. Be very diligent now, and you can enjoy a few days without guilt over Christmas, then 3 more weeks of healthy eating until the race. You can do it. Don't worry that no one at work will join you. I'll join you.

Cindy

Here you go Tracey, you asked for it...

As of 12/2/08

38 days to the 5K
39 days to the half
40 days to the full

Okay, it's the holidays, don't sweat a couple of pounds. It's extra fuel for the half, full marathon, or both. If you're tapering, expect the scale to go the other direction. It's only temporary. :thumbsup2

Hey Lean Meaners!

Maria - It's great that you have more stamina this year. That must feel really great to know that you're doing even better than last year. :thumbsup2

Vicky - How's the kitchen? Don't worry about the bagel. At least it was only a bagel. I made fudge this weekend. Needless to say, there's not much left and that's all I'm gonna say...:rolleyes1

Jeff - I love the idea of predicting your finish time for the Thanksgiving race. That sounds like fun. When I see your posts with the # of days until the WDW races, I feel like this :scared1:

Beth - I'd love to be able to do 10 min miles. You rock! :worship:

Tracey - Congrats on your race and weight loss. that's awesome! :cool1:

Amy - Congrats on your race. You did great! :cheer2:

Cindy - Congrats on your race too! :cool1:

Wendy - I hope you're able to hop back on the wagon, boat :sail: , and all other Lean Mean vehicles - and then please pull me aboard too. Healthy eating is not my middle name this week.

As for me, I think I have runner's knee, so I'm taking it easy this week. I'm trying to stretch more and do more yoga, so I'm hoping that will help.

Have a great week, everyone!

Chris, Cindy, Julie, and anyone else looking for a fresh start -- we can definitely do this. We can definitely do this. We can DEFINITELY do this -- if we want it bad enough, nothing can stand in our way. I have lost weight over the holidays before and actually found it pretty easy -- because I was very motivated. I've just got to focus on why I want this (an easier, faster "Dopey" Challenge [Goofy + 5K]; no worries over blood sugar or blood pressure, being happier in my own skin, etc.) We all have our motivators.

I'm off to walk my workout miles. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in wanting this -- and sometimes finding it very difficult. But it is not impossible! Keep reminding me.

Hi to Maria, Beth, and all the other leaner-meaners. I'm so glad you're all here.

I'm back.........nice to see so many faces here!

Wendy:Never fear girl......onerland is not far away. I hear ya with the lack of surrounding support. The 70 pounds I lost was totally 'all by myself'! Watching my sugars and carbs........most people frown upon that! No support anywhere! I just got a 'talking' too by the trainer at the gym b/c I low carb. I truly believe that watching my carbs has saved me from diabetes. My dh can't low carb (he just doesn't get it). I look at it that a diabetic diet instead of low carb anymore. Keep at it girl, I am routing for ya!

Julie:Nice to hear from you. Sorry to hear about your knee. I hope it gets better soon!

Tracy, Stacie, and Amy::banana:  You all get dancing bananas for such good races!!!!

Maria: I read the second book Sea of Monsters and it was also very good! I bet you are looking forward to holiday break as much as your kids ((((((I am)))))

Jeff: I will never be shopping for a Christmas tree in shorts.....please enjoy that as much as possible!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for ds#1..........he appreciates it!

I am feeling really good right now......I have had the time and energy to work out well the last three days......I got back to the gym today for another 75 min treadmill time, and got to work out with the trainer for some upper body work today. I have to work the next three days, and who knows how much I will get to work out!

Beth

/
I cranked out my 8 miler with Guru Les, and a new guy tagged along. It was a bit humid out, and I was tired by mile 6, but I got it done. 8:30 per mile average.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Good Morning Everyone,

Jeff: Good job with your 8 miler.

Beth: Yea for your energy. Glad you got your workouts in while you could.

Wendy: Getting healthier is Not Impossible. You have a good set of reasons for trying to get healthier. Good luck. We are here for you.

Julie: Sorry about the knee. Best WISHes for a quick recovery.

This week's weigh in has me down another 1.2 lbs. Not sure how that happened with all that pumpkin pie. Must have been the marathon shopping I did on Friday. I am now 5.2 lbs away from my goal.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Good Morning Everyone!

Thanks for the support. I had a really ruff go of it yesterday, but reading everyone's posts really helped me snap out of it.

I got in a 4 miler last night at about a 10:30 pace. My stomach was cramping up so I was pretty pleased with that time.

I'm setting a goal of below 200 before the Marathon so we'll see. I know I have to eat to keep up the running so I have to be very careful with that balance.

Cindy - Congrats on the weight loss! :thumbsup2

Well, this month is already flying by! My oldest ds's birthday went pretty well. He is so excited to have a cell phone, he can't contain himself. It is making it pretty hairy for the youngest though......his nose is certainly out of joint. He is only 10, and NOT getting a cell phone yet, so I will have to grin and bear it.

I am so motivated to get these last 15 pounds off.......I am really trying to ramp up the exercise. Part of that is involving a trainer. I have been going to my gym for about 2 years, and haven't spent any time with the trainer there. He couldn't believe that I didn't have a card for my workouts.....cause I never did any sessions with him. I just did my own thing, ya know? But I have been slacking horribly on the weight training. I am great getting my cardio in, but it takes all the time I have. I had the trainer give me an easy and quick upper body workout. Now, I have to buget the time for it. That is the hard part of the equation. I just don't have the time I want to get it all done! Having a job, husband, two kids, and the 'jobs' that come along with that......I am moving mountains getting the hour in that I am doing now! But, the weight loss would be easier with weight training. So, I will deal with it!

I am glad that I stopped fast food a long time ago.........we are out of that bad habit. If we weren't off fast food, I'm afraid that we would eating alot of it right now. Time is crunched.......and basketball session has just started! It's hard to have the family eat healthy, have quick meals, and have the ingredients for those meals at home! Too many balls in the air! Ugh......

Listen to me......complaining......don't mean to be......I am happy with the trend of energy right now. So I will focus on the postive today!!!!

How is everyone else?

Beth

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!

I was up and at'em and did my 4.5 mi this morning. It felt good, so much better than when I had to struggle through on Monday. And now I get to rest until Friday -- I'm looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. :lovestruc

My boss is out sick today -- I wouldn't wish illness on her, but it means I get to take a nice long walk before lunch. We have one more day before it turns wicked cold, so I want to enjoy it! :beach:

We bit the bullet last weekend and bought a (new-to-us) vehicle. Our 1997 Chevy Venture had turned into a money pit. Our new car is a 2006 Mercury Mariner -- I'm thinking since it was at least made in this decade it's going to be a huge improvement! ;) I have to drive it home tonight, wish me luck!

Beth -- I totally sympathize with you! I just have one ds, plus husband and full-time job, and that is plenty! That is why I've went to working out before anyone else is up as much as possible. I realize I'm cutting my sleep, but that's about the only time I have. On the bright side, I'm in bed at 10 every night, so I don't just prolong my evening for no reason. It is hard, and tiring. But it is worth it! I am more fit now than I was before ds, and when our age-mates are slowing down, we are revving up. We are going to be the fittest grannies on the block some day! :goodvibes

Chris -- Don't forget that you have a proven track record of success! You have done this before, you know how to make it happen, you just have to apply what you know! I know it's easier said than done, but you have already succeeded, and you will get to where you want to be. :grouphug:

Cindy -- You are a weight loss machine! You are doing great! I agree, we should all just check in as often as we need to -- either to give or get support. My dh is a stick. He thinks nothing of eating enough for 3 people, and he's 5'10", 159 lbs (when he's heavy). It's depressing. He tries to be supportive, but he really doesn't get it. We need the support of other people who understand our challenges. :thumbsup2

Jeff -- You are a man in motion (remember that song?!)! I'm glad you keep the countdown coming. I need the focus! :cutie:

Wendy -- We CAN definitely do this! :yay: I hear Onderland calling, I just have to put my mind to getting there.

Julie -- I hope your knee is feeling better. The rest should definitely help. Sometimes a little break can make a big difference. :tilt:

Tracey -- Wow, six miles and this after taking care of 4 boys! You rock! :woohoo: Congrats on the PR, you are doing great!

AmyK -- I am looking forward to seeing Twilight, now you've made me want to see it more!

Happy Wednesday, Make it a Good One!
Maria :santa:

Dog gone it! I just spent 25 min. typing a really heartfelt response and it disappeared! So in a nutshell....
It's cold here and I'll be running on the TM! Blech, because it's 10miles!
Wendy....We're here with you.
Chris....you can do this!
Beth...you rock....I'll be reading Sea of Monsters soon.
Jeff...keep counting down
Julie....hope the knee feels better.
I read Jeff's list and it made me laugh because I could relate to so many things. I don't know about y'all, but I have to be cautious when talking to my non-running friends about running because they start to look like this :faint:. Have a great day all and stay strong!

Morning Meaners! Well, I'm happy to report another 3 pound loss! :yay: Last week's gain made me a little nervous so I'm glad to be losing again. I'm definitely watching closely what I eat over the next few weeks. I hope I can lose at least 6 pounds by the time I have to leave. I'll be out tonight for a quick 3 miler.

Tracey - Yep my friends get that look too ... or a kind of glazed over look where just nod and say "Uh-huh... yup..." every so often (and I know at that point they aren't listening).

Jeff - I'm still a running n00b... I had to Google a few things on the list. :rotfl: I don't get the Runner's World one but then again I've only seen a couple of issues.

Maria - Good for you getting out to run in the morning! That's the one thing I have so much trouble with. I'm not a morning person. Congrats on the new car!!

Beth - Definitely make sure you can add in the weight training to your routine. My PT tells me that anyone losing needs to do weights so that you're burning calories all day. He said with cardio, you're only burning cals while your active.

Cindy - WTG!! Only 5.2 pounds away? Keep up the great work :)

Julie - The kitchen looks great! It's always nice to have something new! I've got my fridge and stove back so no more excuses for eating out ... d'oh! :rotfl: Take care of your knee! I've had a little bit of pain in my left knee this week so I totally understand.

Chris - Sorry to hear about the weight gain! Since I've started running, I've only lost about 15 pounds and it's come off so s-l-o-w-l-y ... like since January. One thing that's worked for me is to keep a food journal and make sure you have someone to show it to. In my case, it kept me a lot more accountable.

Okay, that's all for me - make it a great day everyone!!

Hey guys! I wanted to pop in really quicly so you don't forget me. :goodvibes Life's been busy! Training has been spotty and I've gain some weight! I'm not in the greatest mood... I can seem to get in my Long W/R on the weekend, but mid-week training has gone out the window. I had a very frustating issue w/ new shoes. It's past time for new one, but the new version doesn't fit the same. Even the Wide is more narrow than the regular in the previous version! I tried a different name brand... 7.5 is too small, 8 is too big. Anyway, I have to get on the TM to get make sure those Wides are wide enough and I just hate the TM and can't seem to make myself get on...

Congrats to all those are losing weight! and a big  to those who are struggling.

The Half is coming up quick! I've got my longest mileage W/R this weekend... 10! :scared1: I've only ever gone as far as 9.3 for the Minnie!

I decided to go visit my brother from Dec 29 to Jan 5 in Mexico so now I'm flying from Oaxaca, Mexico to Orlando. That means I have to try to get in my last LW/R down in Oaxaca. I'm actually hoping that a week down there will help me lose some weight. The food is yummy and it tends to be healthier.

Ok...enough from me!

Hope everyone is well!

Happy training!

Stacie

Thanks, everyone, for all the support! I have done reasonably well the last couple of days, so I have lost weight each day. (One of the advantages of having so very much to lose -- immediate reinforcement!) Still a daunting way to go to get back to Onederland, but I'll keep at it.

I will continue to check in, but please forgive me if I don't get to reply to each of you individually. Right now, I've got some treadmill miles to do!

As for me, I did my last 8 miler for my weekday runs. Only one 8 miler slated for Saturday. Then a 7 day taper of absolutely no running.

Here's what it looked like outside in my Winter season, and me with part of my Honolulu Marathon Clinic running group. It was a mere 82 degrees when we started at 5 pm, and down to a frigid 78 degrees when I finished. Someone get me a blanket! :lmao:

That's Guru Les on the far left.

Two Disneyrunning members, David (lvrunner), and Robin (Robinb) will be in town for the Honolulu Marathon. I've been giving them a cyber tour of Oahu, with tips on what to do, where to eat, etc. Hopefully I'll spot them either at the expo on Thursday, or Sunday during the run. Robin and I will both be wearing our orange DR hats, so finding each other in a sea of 28,000 should be a challenge.

Great photos, Jeff. And those guys are lucky to have their own personal tour guide. Enjoy the weather!

Good morning Meaners! It's Friday!!!! :cool1: :cool1: I am glad it's here!

So, with all my excessive energy.......I missed the gym last night......:headache: I have had a streak going since last weekend, but it didn't happen last night. It might be for the best though.....my legs were really tired. So they got some extra rest, so I can get to the gym tonight! I did fit in some upper body weights at home, which is better than nothing! I got really feel it in my shoulders (the week of workouts)!

The scale sure isn't budging.....all these extra workouts and miles. I feel thinner, and my clothes are fitting great......but that darn scale isn't moving. WTH? :confused3 I think I will take a break from the scale! I did get my body fat analyzed on Tuesday (never had it done before). The trainer was warning me that it would be over 40% (dehydration, etc) and not to be mad. But, it wasn't bad ........ came out at 36%. Normal ranges from 23-34 (so I am told). So I am not far off the 34% mark. Gives me something to work towards anyway. :)

Wendy: I am so glad you are back to posting here. I know what a busy season this is for everyone, but I am glad you have popped in! You are one motivating woman! I am always glad to read your posts!

Maria: I also love to see your posts too! I feel like you have a life like mine, and 'get' me and my frustrations. I feel like you are the back bone of the Meaners! I think of you often.

Jeff: What can I say???? You, by far, are the 'light' of the meaners. Your daily check in and the beautiful pictures really lift my spirits. Your posts keep me smiling! Keep them coming!

Stacie: I hear ya with the shoe thing! I am always looking for a good pair.....I had some miss-steps lately, but I am really happy with my current shoes! Yippee! It's worth the trouble, really!

Bunnyfoo: It's a pain having to watch everything we eat.......:headache: But, I figure if I watch 80% of the time, I am going to let that other 20% go! I will never be model thin (and don't want to be) b/c there are times I want to chose not to be 'good'! I love food......so I won't be 135 pounds. I would like to be a normal/healthy weight with room to cheat!

To the rest of my friends Big Vic, Tracie, Jeanne, Howard, Cindy, Julie, Chris, and Amy.......have a good Lean Mean Weekend!!!!

Beth
