Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Yo Beth, Tracy, Tracey, Maria, Wendy, and the rest of the Lean Mean Running/Race Walking Machine.

Happy Aloha Friday, and enjoy your weekend.

Hey team!

Spent my day off running my first 20 miler. 20.5 to be exact. Then took my first Ice Bath and have ate and ate and ate. I did 6 miles last night. I'm proud of myself because it was all of 14 out this morning with a windchill in the 8 to 9 range, but I stayed outside. (Of course I got nothing but grief from the wife for it) I didn't do very well, but at least I finished. Had to walk 1.5 miles or so of it.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday!

How is everyone's weekend? I am thinking about running the TM today, but sort of dreading it! I am looking for a good movie.......

Beth

Happy Monday! How was everyone's weekend???

SIL and I got in our 10 miler last night! 2:33 hours! It was COLD! I think the temp was in the 30s! Our avg pace was 15:22 and aside from the first mile (which we started out too fast) our best mile was mile 8 at exactly 15:00. My back was sore when I got done and my stupid feet were hurting. I have such weird feet! One of toes was aching for a few hours and I can still "feel" it now. I'm a little sore today, but nothing major.

How about you guys???

Beth, Did you get on the TM?

Have a great week!
Stacie

Yes, Stacie, I did get on the TM for 6 miles!:cool1: I watched the Lara Croft movie to pass the time. It was ok, but I had a hard time following it after an hour. It was cold/snowing out yesterday, and I am a wimp lately. Just couldn't face the cold weather! Glad you had a good walk.......besides the pain afterward!

Anyone else checking in today?

Beth

Hey Leaner Meaners!

I did my 4.5 on the TM this morning -- I knew there was no way I'd want to after being out in the frozone I'm calling home today. It's chilly, about 14 when I got up. I did 7 mi on Saturday, and that was really rough. I felt physically ill right around 6, and it didn't get better. DH said I looked pale afterwards. I did the whole thing without water, and I think that was my mistake. Next weekend I'm taking a water break during my 8 mi. Anyway, I had to get back on today after Saturday so I didn't psych myself out. I'm also considering slowing down a bit. I definitely did not have another 6 miles in me... :sad2:

Beth -- Me, me, me! I'm checking in today! I wrapped all of ds's books last night. I'm hoping these go over well. I'm not looking for Wii-happy, but going to the movies-happy would suffice. ;) Wow, I think I'm more of a funny bone than a backbone, but thanks for the compliment! Now if I could only find some backbone and make myself limit that caloric intake!

Stacie -- Wow! 10 miles in the cold! You rock! :cool1: Sorry about your feet, I hope they continue to recover.

Chris -- You are seriously hard core! That is a heck of a workout without the frigidity. Awesome job!

Jeff -- What, no decorated palm trees today? No tepid ocean spray nipping at your nose? :rotfl: I love your snapshot of holidays in paradise. It warms me up on a cold winter's day!

Wendy -- How are those TM miles workin' for ya? You are inspiring me to try to make better choices. I can feel the commitment in your posts, and I'm so proud of you! :thumbsup2

Vicky -- Great job on the weight loss! You are just melting away! :cutie:

Tracey -- When I tell people I'm doing the WDW Half for the second time, they think 1) I'm lying 2) I can take all day to finish. I don't look like I can move, and so I always get incredulous looks. My choice is to really be a couch potato or just look like one, so I guess I'm a case where appearances can be deceiving...like Jeff's post said, non-movers just don't get it. :lmao:

Big howdies to Connie, Dave, Cindy, Julie, AmyK and all the others striving for Lean Meanness!

Maria :upsidedow

Beth: missed you this weekend at the Victory Junction race. It was a very small WISH turnout....just me, John and Wendy. John had a very bad race. I promised to stay with him, so I did, but we must have missed alot of the post-race festivities because the King was nowhere to be found when we got back. If you're looking for a good treadmill movie, try "Love, Actually"....it's one of my faves and goes well with the Christmas season.

Congrats to everyone geting their workouts in and keeping up with their dieting. I, for one, am getting lots of coal in MY stocking for being a bad mean leaner!

Hey everyone,

I'm having similar scale issues to what Beth was describing. Clothes are getting bigger, but nothing on the scale. I've been up and down the same 4 pounds since TOT. It seems like I am finally sticking on the down side, so that's good.

Finally back at the running thing, I did 2.5 miles today, my first effort since the 1/2 a week ago. It felt good, and I also did pilates. Last Friday I did the Jillian Michael's 30 day shred for the first time. Now THAT was a work out. I was less tired after the 1/2 marathon.:scared1: :scared1: I plan on doing that again tomorrow as well as a walk with DD.

Starting to freak out a bit as far as my interval strategy for the 1/2. I think the stopping and starting, towards the end of the 1/2 last week anyhow, was part of the reason my thighs were cramping and hurting. It may be better for me to slowly run almost the entire way and just walk the water stops.

keep up the good work everyone!

Hi, gang! Thanks so much for the kind and encouraging words. You folks are the reason I keep coming back to face my own personal "giant" (weight loss) even when I want to give up hope.

Like Jeanne, I'm back from the Run to Victory Half. You can read both my race report and Jeanne's race report on the weekly race thread.

I didn't weigh this morning, but I'll get back on the scales tomorrow. I actually had steak this weekend -- can't remember the last time I had red meat -- but that's not why I didn't weigh. I learned from experience that the day after a long walk/run I always gain weight. My nutritionist says it's just fluid that my body is using to heal all those little microscopic muscle tears, but all I see is calories in is way lower than calories burned and I'm still "gaining"! It makes me mental, so I just stay away from the scales now.

Hey to all you Lean Meaners out there lurking, or not lurking. :thumbsup2

Hi Lean Meaners!

Wendy - Congrats on the weight loss! :thumbsup2

Beth - 6 miles on the TM is great. :woohoo: I hate the TM and avoid it at all costs.

Jeff - So sorry you had to be out in frigid 78 degree weather. I really feel bad for you...not! I saw your beautiful pics, then I looked out my window and saw frost covering my deck. :sad2:

Cindy - Another 1.2 lbs - good for you! :cool1:

Chris - Running in the cold can be tough - but you did it! :thumbsup2

Maria - Congrats on the new car. :drive: Do you like it?

Tracey - I know what you mean about talking to non-running friends about running. It's so nice to come here and chat with people who actually want to hear about my long run, my sore knee, etc. :)

Vicky - I'm glad that your kitchen is done. It must feel good to be able to cook again. How is your knee?

Stacie - Have fun in Mexico! :beach:

Amy - I'm dealing with the same thing that you & Beth mentioned. The scale isn't moving, but my clothes are getting loose. :confused3

I'm eating better this week than I have in the past few weeks, so I'm hoping that will bring good results. My knee is still bothering me, so I've cut down on running. Hopefully the physical therapist I'm seeing on Fri will be able to help me get through this.

Have a great lean, mean week, everyone! :goodvibes

Happy Day, Lean Meaners!
Vicky...:cool1: on that 3lb weight loss:cool1: ! I gained 1 lb this week, so I'm hoping to follow in your footsteps next week. I didn't get the Runner's World comment either, I actually really like the magazine. Thanks for adding the comment to keep up weight training so we burn calories all day long. That's the motivation I needed.;)
Stacie...We could NEVER forget you;) . I fully understand about the shoes, I always seem to be between an 8 and an 8 1/2 (I was a size 6, 4 babies ago).
And I've realized it's strictly a shoe by shoe basis. I know you've done alot to find the right shoes, but have you tried the bigger size with an extra cushion insert? Hopefully, your foot is feeling better now--awesome job getting that 10miler in! Oh, Mexico sounds WONDERFUL! You lucky dog! Now, you'll be looking beautifully bronzed at Disney.
Wendy... Everyone here is always providing new information for me. Now, I know why that weight gain happens after a long run and that makes so much sense. Thanks for the info.
Jeff...Beautiful pictures of Paradise! Would you like to see the cold, rainy, blah that I'm seeing out my window? The pic with the rainbow is absolutely gorgeous. Guru Les looks exactly like I pictured him.
Beth...scale not moving:confused3 . You know, like I do, as long as your clothes are fitting better, the scale really doesn't matter (that still doesn't prevent me from getting on everyday!) 6 TM miles, I'm all too familiar with that. It's getting too cold to push the little guy in the stroller so we head to the basement. Step Brothers is a totally funny, inappropriate movie, but I thought it was great for TM time. I was still laughing out loud at 8+miles. Although with DS, we're usually watching anything Disney!
Chris...nice when your day off involves a 20miler;) ! My DH took the day off yesterday and the plan was for me to get my 11miler in, but it never happened so it's today on the TM. It's a little hard to get the muscles warmed up on those frigid days, brrrrrrrrrr!
Maria....4.5 on the TM! WTG, girl. Thanks for always being so positive. You're right with the non-movers not getting it. I feel so lucky that I found all of you!
Jeanne... good to see you.
Amy....the Jillian 30 day shred sounds like a tough workout, so is it cardio and weights, or what? I bet you're enjoying this time of year with your little punkin'.
Julie...That's right we're here to hear about long runs, sore knees, bad fitting shoes, proper nutrition, and pottying in the bushes:rotfl2: . And the thing is...we all get it! Hope the PT can give you some insight on that sore knee.

Well, I got all my paperwork from Disney, my luggage tags, ADR's made, and I feel like I'm ready to go. Now, if I can only wrap my head around the fact that I'll be running a 1/2 marathon while I'm there:scared1: ! I looked at the new buttons for "What will you celebrate" and there's a really cute one on celebrating my triumph! What a perfect button for marathon weekend! I've been keeping up with the workouts, eating well, and I still gained a lb this week. As Beth would say, WTH! Oh, well, I'm hoping for better this week. I'll be doing my 11 miles on the TM today, which I'm not looking forward to and it will involve jumping off to grab snacks, and drinks for DS and changing movies for him, but I'll get it done. I'll have to put in a movie that I like;) . Have a great day all!

Every one of you totally rock!

I'm in on no sleep and day 2 of using a food journal so we'll see how that goes.

Just wanted to do a quick drive by and Thank all of you again. It has helped a ton.

It's getting close to taper time too.

Oh my! Seems like I missed the party here! Here I thought I killed the thread! Glad to 'see' all of you! :cool1: :cool1:

Let's see if I can remember it all........

Jeanne: Welcome back from Victory Junction! Yes, I missed going.....we are headed to Peurto Rico (sp?) this week. Long time saving of dh's airline points and hotel points.......means a 'free' vacation for the family! We don't have alot of extra money right now, and couldn't afford the NC trip. But, dh had planned this mini vacation during the summer, so off we go! I will enjoy a few outside runs there, that's for sure! Also gearing up for work while Nancy returns to DW for the race! That girl sure does vacation alot! I will miss her return tomorrow since I am off till next week!

Wendy: Nice to see you again, and glad you had a good time at the VJ race. I missed seeing you guys again this year.......maybe next year? I can't see everyone at the WDW races, since my Miss Nancy goes, and someone has to work! :lmao:

Jeff: Beautiful pictures.....thanks for thinking of us! ;)

Maria: I went book shopping for ds#1 birthday.......it sure is hard picking for someone else! I ended up getting a 3 book series (character is Alex something) he is a kid mystery solver (I think). He seemed happy with it! :thumbsup2

Vicky: 3 pounds is awesome! Good for you! Wish my scale would start moving!:confused3

Amy: The Gillian workout sounds like it would kill me.......maybe I should try it? Got to shred some pounds off of me!

Thanks all for the movie ideas! I will have to try them all (((((if dh would load them up on the iPod!))))))). I always need some dreadmill diversions!

I have been doing fairly well with my eating.......but boy am I hungry! I totally caved last night and ate a bowl of cereal! It was no stinkin healthy cereal either......it was ds#2 Fruit Loops!!!!! :scared1: WTH?????? What's with that?????? Have to say I enjoyed them too!!!!!!!! :headache:

So, we wonder why Beth's scale isn't moving??????? Don't have to keep wondering! But, to my defense, I have been pretty good till then and working out like a crazy person.........that's my story and I am sticking to it! ;) :rotfl2:

A big shout out to all the rest of my friends........Tracy, Stacie, Big Vic, Julie, Chris and Vicky! Have a good Lean Tuesday!

Beth

hey everyone,

the 30 day shred does use weights. She has it set up where you do 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, 1 minute Abs/Core, repeat 3 times. There is also a warm up/cool down, so in total it is just over 20 minutes. I've only done it twice so far, but I love it because it is short and I really feel like I'm doing something. She totally kicks your butt. I've only done level 1, there are 3! :scared1: It is 7.49 on Amazon (they currently have free shipping on orders of 25.00 or more). I would check out some of the reviews there. people :lovestruc it.

So I just got done with the shred DVD, and hope to maybe get in a walk later. Must soak up this awesome FL weather!!

Good Morning Everyone,

Amy: I have and love the 30 Day Shred too. I was quite good about doing it often a few months back, but haven't done it in a while. I was starting to notice some nice results in my arms and shoulders. I must get back to it soon.

Beth: Have a wonderful time in PR. Sounds like a great sunny place to be going right now. Do take advantage of the nice weather. Keep up the faith that the scale will reward you for all your workouts. Fruit loops? At least you enjoyed them.

Chris: Good luck with the food journal. It really works to keep the absent minded snacking to a minimum. No sleep?? That can't be good for you.

Tracey: How'd you do with 11 on the TM? I don't think I would survive. Which movie did you watch? Don't worry about that 1 lb gain, I'm sure it will be gone after those 11 miles. What a great idea to buy a pin to celebrate your race. Be sure you do it. I told myself I'd buy a 26.2 sticker for my car after last year's race, I still haven't done it.

Julie: Sorry the knee is still a problem. Good job on eating well.

Jeff: Fabulous pictures. When is your race, this weekend?

Wendy: Good to see you. Great job on finishing your race and playing hostess at the same time.

Maria: Sorry your 7 miles was tough on Saturday. Good job sticking with it. Can you believe how warm it is today? I hope to run at lunch despite the rain. We don't get many 60 degree days in December.

Stacie: Good job getting the 10 miler in. Sorry the feet are still causing problems.

This week I lost just 0.8lbs, but I'll take it. 4.4 lbs until I reach my goal. I have gotten away from writing down my points lately, so I really need to get back to that. I signed up to participate in a cookie swap. While I was baking the cookies I quickly reverted back to my old ways and was eating the dough non-stop. I'll have chew gum or something next time I bake to keep from doing that.

Running is going just OK. I feel like I'm trying to squeeze it in between so many other things. I'm going to have to start my LR on Friday at 5 AM if I hope to get it done. I figure I'll run on the TM until I can't stand it anymore then head outside to finish up. I have to do 14 miles and need to be done by 7:30 so DH can get to work. It will still be dark when I head outside and we don't have street lights in my neighborhood so I'm not really sure how that will go. I'm worried about stepping in a pot hole or being surprised by some sort of wild animal.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Just a quickie for me....I'm going on a fieldtrip with DS#3 today.

Cindy....11 miles on the TM is a lonnnnnngggggg time, but I finished. We watched The Polar Express and some Disney Merry Christmas Sing Along's which really didn't help pass the time.:lmao: My little guy was actually very, very, very good. We have enough toys downstairs to open a toy shop, so he played and watched TV. I had to get off 2x, once to get him some more milk and once to change the DVD. All in all, not something I want to do every week, but it was ok. Congrats on more weight loss!
Beth....let me know the name of the series you bought for DS, we're always looking for new books. Yum, Froot Loops are so good.
Amy....Looks like I'll have to get Jillian's DVD, especially when Cindy mentioned she saw a difference in her arms and shoulders.
Jeff.... thanks for counting down. When's your race? I saw something on the Runner's World site that if you're running Honolulu you could send in a race report and possibly get it published.
Chris...I hope you're getting some sleep.
All my other friends...
So, yesterday, I did my 11 TM miles and today I've already done Pilates.:cool1: Now, it's time to get ready for the fieldtrip. Have a great one everybody.

Hey Meaners.......spending the day doing laundry and packing for my trip. Was hoping to get to the gym, but I don't know if it will happen or not!:confused3

Someone (I am sorry, I don't know who) asked about the poke cake I made. Here's the recipe. I replaced all ingredients with sugar free versions.

1 box white/yellow cake mix (I used low sugar Pillsbury)
2 cups boiling water
1 pkg (6 oz) Jello lemon gelatin
1 cup skim milk
1 pkg Jello lemon flavor instant pudding
3 cups SF Cool Whip

Bake cake according to directions. Pierce cake with large fork at 1/2 intervels while still warm.

Add boiling water to gelatin and stir 2 min till disolved. Pour jello over warm cake. Refrigerate 3 hours.

Beat milk and pudding mix with wisk x 2 min. Gently stir in Cool Whip. Ice cake with Cool Whip and refrigerate 1 hour before serving.

Maria: The book series author is Anthony Horowitz and the first book is called Stormbreaker I think they are pretty popular!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Beth

Beth, that cake sounds yummy! :) I think I'll have to try making it...after the marathon, of course.
