Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my USA WISH Family. Enjoy the holiday. (To the Canucks up North, you had your Thanksgiving last month :lmao: ).

Note: CNN reported the average person needs to run 20 miles to work off your holiday feasting. So if you don't feel like running 20 miles, use a smaller plate, and put down the fork before you're stuffed.

Way to go on the miles everyone. Keep up the training!

I ran the Honolulu Turkey Trot 10 mile race. $3.00 entry fee, no medals, no shirts, but lots of prizes.

Watches, Garmins, Ipods are forbidden, as you must predict your finish time on a tongue depressor that you turn in at the finish line.

I predicted 1:30:00, and finished 1:32:16. I was 13.6 seconds average per mile slower than my prediction. I could have come in closer, but cruised the last mile and a quarter down Diamond Head, because I thought I was under my time. Oh well, slower is better.

A friend I train with, was 1 second off her total time, and won 1st place for the finishers over the two hour mark. The winner of the finishers under the 2 hour mark was 2 seconds over his predicted time.

Our team competition, 25 racers per team, and total combined time. My team finished 4th out of 4 teams. We were 2:32 over our total team average. The winning team was 1:32 over their average.

Fun race, if you're ever in the islands for Thanksgiving.

Jeff: sounds like a great race! I love the predicting your time!!! I ran without my watch yesterday, and it felt great! Very freeing!

Maria: I hear ya friend! The homework assignments are getting me down! I don't think I did this much work in the 5th grade myself! Take it easy, and feel better!:wizard:

Amy: You get used to the cold......eventually. I haven't yet! Yesterday was pretty nice though, it was in the 40's with no wind. You are lucky with weather!

I had a very nice run yesterday after being guilted into doing the Turkey Trot I had planned to do. It was so cold out, I was trying to beg off......but my Dsis made me feel completely guilty.......so off I went! I ran without my watch (forgot it) and I was happily doing 10:00 to 10:30 min miles!!! I felt great, and could tell that the recent weight loss helped my energy level. I had alot left in the tank......could have done even better, but you never know huh? I was being 'stalked' at the end, but I had alot left and she never came close to beating me!!!! Finished 5K in 32:00! and very happy with that. I have been feeling slow lately, but not yesterday! The extra mileage has helped I guess!

Eating went well on Turkey day. Had to many carby foods, but I was in charge of dessert.........no one noticed the lack of sugar! I used low/no sugar in all of them! They all were a big hit, especially a lemon poke cake (which did turn out nice!) :woohoo:

I hope you all had a lovely holiday!

Beth

I'll be back later to read up on everyone, but I'm soooooo excited. I ran the local Turkey Trot yesterday and I reached my goal of breaking 30....29:37 to be exact. I was maybe 50 yds. from the finish and my DS yelled, "You're gonna do it, mom!" I just had to share with y'all because you know what it means to reach a goal. I felt like :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: all day long. With all the kids home, I'll be MIA for a few days, but I can't wait to check and see how everybody's doing. Take care.

I cracked this morning and went downstairs with some of my coworkers to eat a breakfast bagel and coffee. I'm sure it was way too many calories but so tasty at time. Of course now I just feel guilty so I'll probably try and work off some it at lunch by going for a walk.

Dave - Cute comic!

Beth/Tracey/Jeff - Congrats on great races!!

Btw what's a lemon poke cake? (like I should be asking about sweets... :rotfl: )

It snowed today, so my girls built their snowmen out on the front lawn.

Following that, we went to the farm to pick out our Christmas tree. Note in the photo that we had to put on our winter clothes and snowshoes due to the cold temperatures here...

Hey Lean Meaners!
Beth...I hear you on getting the decorations back down. I keep thinking that everything that goes up must come down before I leave for Disney on the 8th.  Congrats on the Turkey Trot, sounds like it was a great race. The lemon poke cake sounds yummy.
Amy....:yay: glad you're back. Yep, it's cold around here especially for running, but I kind of like running in the cold. How did your first 1/2 go? Details.
Julie...Nice job on getting that run in and in the pouring rain. You go girl! It's such a great feeling when you get it done.
Jeff...Glad your little one is feeling better. I bet the stitches were a huge hit for Show n' Tell. Wow, I read the article on Japanese registrations being down, the economy is scary for everyone. Nice job on the Turkey Trot, I'd love to guess my time;) . Great pics of the tree hunting....it looks really cold there:rotfl2: .
Mike....Nice to see you. How ya feeling?
Maria...Way to go on getting your workouts in. I love shopping, but taking 4 kids with me? not so much. I hear you on the 1/2 days, my kids have late starts on 1 day of the month and they start school 2 hours late. Those are crazy days because they sit around here for an extra 2 hours in the morning trying to figure out what they can do.
Vicky...Those 1.5 lbs will come right back off:goodvibes . I love bagels in the morning, at least you didn't have a doughnut. Doughnuts, yum!
Dave....cute cartoon

Well I've been keeping up with workouts and tracking my food which has resulted in another 3.6 lbs lost for November. I was hoping for 5, but I'll take any loss. I'm now hoping for 5 in December. I ran the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, ran 9 miles on Friday, hiked on Saturday and ran 3.5 miles Sunday. It was a busy weekend. I don't have step class tonight so I'll have to do something else today, maybe pilates. Take care all and have a great Monday.:cutie:

Good afternoon Meaners! How was your holiday? It sure went quick!

The kids are back to school, but I am off till Wednesday! Alot of running around today......ds#1 has his 12th birthday tomorrow. He is getting a cell phone (.......ugh......) but I needed a little something else. Got him a set of books at Borders (with coupon!) so he has something to open tomorrow.

I got 95 minutes in on the treadmill yesterday......it helped that the tm was set just to keep going, and a good movie! It wasn't to bad at all!

I didn't get to read everyones post, so I will be back later to catch up with everyone!

39 days to the 5K
40 days to the half

Hey Everyone!

Tracey- WTG on the sub 30 5K! That is at the top of my list as a fitness goal for 2009!!

Jeff-Loved the pics!

My 1/2 went well (as did my 5k turkey trot 35:40, no PR but lots of fun)...Here is my 1/2 report for anyone interested.

Space Coast ½ Marathon-11/30/08

This was my first ½ marathon. It was a great experience.:goodvibes Since this was my first half, I tried to not set too many expectations, other than using it as a learning experience and hopefully finishing in under 3 hours. I am using the MfM R:W plan for training and was a bit concerned because I only trained up to 9 miles (I had been hoping to get to 10 as the plan recommends, but LTO and I only made it to 9).

Packet Pick-Up/Night Before
-Packet pick up was at the host hotel (Radisson at Port Canaveral), and was super easy. I was able to exchange my shirt for a smaller size too. They also had a pretty nice dinner set up ( free for runners, maybe 5 dollars for family?). We didn’t eat dinner there since we had a large lunch and I just wasn’t ready to eat at that time. I ended up getting a salad and having a slice of pizza later on. I went to bed around 11 after getting all my stuff ready and slept until 2, then kept waking up every half hour or so, having dreams all night of oversleeping and missing the race. I got up at 430 and was on the shuttle to the start just before 5am. The shuttle was great, on time and a nice bus.

Pre-Race
-The race started and ended in Cocoa Village, which was really nice and was all lit up with Christmas lights. Bag Check, Finish line and port a potties were all in the park there (name escapes me at the moment). The race was due to start at 6am, so I walked around a bit and warmed up, used the potties a couple of times, then checked my bag and headed to my corral. The corrals were assigned based on the time you gave when registering.

The Race Itself: The race started about 10 minutes late, not sure why. There was a space shuttle liftoff themed countdown on a jumbotron. The course was an out and back. North for 6.5 miles along the Indian River and back to town. Full runners continued south once reaching town again for 6.5 miles and then headed back. The course went through a residential area (VERY nice houses!). There were quite a few residents out to watch the race. There was even a guy at mile 12 misting people with his garden hose!! Also, once I hit the turn around to go back, I was running into some very strong wind!!! There was Water and Gatorade every mile, Gu at mile 8 and for the full they had Gu at every stop after mile 14 and sponges at some of them. It was very flat, and I think it would be a good course to PR on. Lots of volunteers and a lot of them were in space themed costumes. Plentiful potties too on the course!!

The first 8 miles or so flew by. I tried to stick to my intervals (Run5/Walk1) as much as possible. I had some clif shot bloks every few miles and took the Gu at mile 8. Miles 9 and 10 were really rough. My legs were TIRED. I walked ALOT more and ran slower. I was able to pick up the pace again for 11,12 and 13. And I finished in 2:48 (probably 2:44 if you take out potty stops). Got TONS of comments on my WISH shirt, I wore the race ready one I just got in the mail. There was also a timing mat at the turnaround.

Apparently they even announced my name and town when I came into the park to finish. I didn’t hear it, but DH did. I got my chip cut off and then got my medal, which is totally cool. It’s way wider and heavier than the Minnie 15K medal. They also gave us beach towels! The shirt is a long sleeve brooks tech shirt. Also got my picture taken with my medal and the guy took one of me and DH too. They also took one pre-race and several during the race.

Final thoughtsI am really glad I did this race. I find comfort in feeling that I have a better idea of what to expect at Disney (of course this race wasn’t nearly as big as Disney, so that will be new). I know what I’ll need to do for fueling and hydration for 13.1 miles. I am a little sore today, but nothing like I thought it would be.

I am still kind of mentally processing that I have actually completed a ½ marathon. I think back to what I was doing a year ago (nothing) and it blows my mind to think of how far I have come. So glad that I have found WISH. I am very much looking forward to January!

Here are a couple pics. All the race pics I took are on a disposable, so I need to get that developed. Hopefully the ones taken by the race photog's will be up soon.

Hmmm. What do I like better, the medal or the picture of Edward?! Tough choices!

AmyK -- It sounds like you had a fantastic Half! I also can't believe that I am fitter now than when I was younger, but it's a great feeling! :cool1:

Jeff -- You are taunting us with your Christmas tree shopping photos! Do you ever wish for snow, or are you just happy to have a white sand Christmas? ;)

Beth -- Happy Birthday to ds#1! I am not looking forward to the day when I have to let ds have a cell phone, but I know it is coming...

Tracey -- Ok, I'm not going to complain about our half days anymore. I'd much rather have him off in the afternoon than the morning. That sounds like a recipe for chaos! :scared1:

Vicky -- If your cracking ended with a breakfast bagel, you did well. I don't want to discuss Thanksgiving in any detail...:lmao:

Big Howdies to all the Lean Meaners!

Ok, so Jeff's post of 40 days 'til the Half got me moving again. I am ashamed to admit I hadn't done a darn thing since last Tuesday. Yep, I missed my long run Saturday. So, once I saw that it all became ever so real. I did 4.5 miles when I got home. They were not easy or fun, and they took way too long, but I have to get going again so I can keep up my progress. Anyway, I'm back on the training schedule. :thumbsup2 Tomorrow, it's 3 miles and Yoga! :woohoo:

Everyone have an awesome night. Welcome to December! :santa:

It's a tough choice I know!! I love my bling and all, but given the choice I'd have to say Edward Cullen.:lovestruc :lovestruc Have you seen the movie?

Sigh. I haven't seen the movie -- but I can tell you all about Madagascar 2...Some day I'll get to see a movie I choose again, I know the day is coming.

I have read all 4 books. I've heard the movie doesn't move as fast -- have you seen it? At this point I suspect I'll end up getting it on Netflix -- once we finish the Harry Potters! You can see the impetus behind my movie watching! :lmao: Maybe I'll go to Pleasure Island when we're down for the Half to just see a movie, but I think I'd fee to guilty wasting the sunshine!

I just got off the TM with my 3 mi for today. Now I just have Yoga at work, and I'll be all worked out for the day. I'm so glad I got up and did it, I work out much better in the am than pm. :woohoo:

Plus, now when I get home I can work on Christmas, which is a definite bonus. Those cards won't address themselves! :santa:

Happy Tuesday, Lean Meaners!
Maria :cheer2:

Good Morning Everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted much these past 2 weeks. I've been busy, busy, busy. Thanksgiving went very well for me. It was the 3 days following that I didn't do well. That leftover pie!!

I ran a 5K on Thanksgiving morning. It was pretty cold and despite a mile warm up run I had a hard time getting into a good groove. I just figured it wasn't my day and I'd just view the race as more calories in the bank. By the midway point of the race I was feeling better and was able to finish pretty strongly. I was just 20 seconds off my 5K PR, so I was pretty happy about that. I ran another 2 miles after the race to add to the calorie stash.

Unfortunately that was the only running I did at all over the long weekend. I wanted to get out, but it just never fit into the schedule. I'm glad to be back to a regular schedule now because it's so much easier for me to stay with eating well and running.

Maria: Good job getting the workout out of the way this morning.

Amy: Congrats on your 1/2 marathon. It is an amazing accomplishment to have finished and well below your goal time. What a nice looking medal.

Beth: Enjoy your extra days off. Way to go with 95 minutes on the TM. I'm sure I've never come close to staying on for that long. Good job on your Turkey Trot results.

Tracey: 3.6 lbs in a month is great. Keep up the good work. Great job on your sub 30 5K. It really is such a great feeling to attain such a goal.

Jeff: Great pictures. I don't believe I've ever gone to pick out my xmas tree wearing shorts.

I have my weigh in tomorrow, so I'll see how I did for the week.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Maria: I have seen Twilight..Twice..And will probably see it a couple more times with my niece over xmas when we go to NC. I felt it moved faster than the book. There is so much they have to cram in 2 hours. For example, a pivotal scene in the book that may have been a whole chapter, is maybe like a minute in the movie. But they did a good job with it.

Hi, Leaner Meaners -- it's the long-lost Wendy.

Yes, Thanksgiving is over and it's time to hop back on the wagon. I'm still shooting for getting back to One-derland by Disney, though if I don't get a grip pretty soon I'm going to miss the boat. (Wagons and boats -- I think that's officially a mixed metaphor.) I think Tracey's plan of setting goals by the month is a good one.

No one here at home/work seems much interested in weight loss -- I guess most folks set aside those goals over the holidays so they can enjoy the season of plenty. I can't afford to do that -- not so close to race day. Maybe I should log in hourly and look for encouragement from my fellow LMs??? I'm feeling a little lonely today.

Like some of you, I got up early to get in my workout. I was so slow that I didn't finish my mileage before I had to leave for work, so I'll have to start again when I get home. <sigh> At least I spent my morning hours wisely.

The bright spot in my morning was AmyK's race report. What an awesome medal, great shirt, and great first half marathon experience -- even meeting your time goal! That is fabulous, girl!!! You are going to float through Disney! I really want to do that race -- all the astronaut photo ops really appeal to me -- and that bling -- WHOA!!!!!

OK, better get back to work.

Everytime I see these, I feel like :scared1: and :cheer2: at the same time!
Keep counting down, Jeff, you keep me on schedule.

Amy...Awesome job on the 1/2 and well below your goal.:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: It sounds like it was a great race....gotta love the bling and the shirt's really cute, too.
Maria...You've accomplished alot today already, way to get your day moving.
Cindy...Those turkey trot races are fun, I think they'll be an annual tradition for us.
Beth...:bday: to DS! We just caved and bought DS a cell phone for his birthday in June.
Six miles on tap for me today and it's time to wake up the boys. Happy day all!
