Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Oh, Beth, I feel for you and your son.

Maria, I am in awe of your posts -- you are some great leaner-meaner!

Panda Dave! I'm ready for January! Oh, you meant was I training like I was ready for January... well, not exactly. :upsidedow But I have all my dining reservations -- Does that count? :rotfl:

I'm looking out the office window at all the continual rain and thinking about what Jeanne and her DH and I will face tomorrow. No way I'd be outside for 16 miles in the rain without my buddies -- I'd be chugging away on the treadmill. Thank heavens for WISHers!!!!!

OK, back to work before I get myself fired!

Hi Everybody! :wave2:

Wendy IMHO, dining reservations do count! Good for you! ;)

Maria You are the queen of the Meaners! You are keeping this thread afloat!

Cindy Gentle sweet Cindy! I have to come here just to see you! I miss your kind sweet loving ways. You are the GEM of the Meaners!

Jeanne LIfe is Good! It gets in the way of important computer stuff, for all of us, but where we would be without a great big WELCOME BACK glad to see ya, anytime; hello from the WISHERS?

Kim Welcome Girlfrined. THere's lots of brilliance on this board! We are all here for you! Welcome to the LEaners!

Beth  Kids can be so mean. My best advice, is to not put your son on a diet. Just try to keep the portions real, the food healthy and let him grow into his weight. I am so sorry he has to go through this. I hope you are going to the school, hopefully there is a no bullying policy. As one who was bullied; it all works out and may make us stronger, better people. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of consolation in that, right now.

Dave We all miss the witty and fun Dave. Although, there's lots of good stuff on your blog, we still need your YARC side, too! :hippie:

Jeff I hope you were bragging about your winter and not complaining.....wait, maybe I mean that I hope you WERE complaining....wait, maybe I hope you were bragging.......darn it all, I guess I am just glad you have a wonderful place to be!

As for me in the Great Plains of the Texas Panhandle, we have done a round of doctors this week. DH is recovering from his Back surgery very nicely. I have to see the ortho next week and hopefully, I will be able to move to the next stage of my recovery. I am sick to death of the pain and I don't want to talk about it any more. I have lossed 7 lbs and am training again. It's like starting at ground zero, but that just gives me the chance to be better at the starting gate than I once was! :)

Everyone take care. LIFE IS GOOD! -- Connie

Connie,

It's a cold day in Honolulu, when I have to put on a shirt. :lmao:

Going reef walking with my Girl Scouts tonight. Showing them what creatures are in 3 feet of water at night. I will hopefully post some cool pictures this weekend.

Good morning everyone, here are some thoughts I had today:

We really only have control over our own body and our own actions. Well here lately that fact is being drilled into us big time. We just went through a period where gas went from around $2.00 a gallon to over $4.00 a gallon to now where it's down to $1.78 a gallon. The stock market is just stupid right now and we are in real danger of having a disaster in the whole worlds economy. Makes you wanna shake your head and say "What the hell just happened"?

We can't control anything past our nose. It's a fact of life and we might as well accept it. We can do what we can to be prepared and try to be the best influence we can for others but we can only make our own decisions.

Lots of stuff in our lives are not controllable, way more than we can control but we can do our best to exert our influence over those things. Like you can choose not to support products you don't agree with like tobacco, you can't stop people from smoking but you can only support restaurants that don't allow smoking. I know that sounds like a little thing but if more of us did the "Little things", we could make a big difference.

Hello Lean Meaners.
Mike....what? Parenting woes at your house, too?
Beth...Oh, sweetie, my heart goes out to you and DS (and the whole family, for that matter). Kids can be so mean and they do it for the silliest reasons. I truly believe that the school counselor's need to get into the classrooms more to discuss bullying and being kind to others. I'm all too familiar with emotional eating and can understand your son bingeing. I've found myself being alot happier walking/running the "upset" away instead of filling it with food. Would DS walk or run with you? That would give you a chance to touch base one on one with him and give him a chance to unload. Having been an educator, I would suggest contacting the school. No child should have to endure that kind of punishment. Sending lots of  your way.
Wendy...Dining reservations most definitely count.;)
Connie...you are so right...Life is Good. Hoping things are on the upswing for you and that the pain gets under control.
Jeff...we were giggling at the pics you posted because you posted that it was 84 degrees and your kiddos were wearing jackets. My kids are still going jacket-less at 55 degrees here. Now today, at a frigid 33, they're wearing coats! Reef walking sounds awesome, what did you see?
Panda...we have quite a few restaurants around here that have gone "smoke-less". DS and I are allergic to smoke and it makes us happy to go places where we won't walk out with snuffy noses and red eyes.
Everybody else...
I'm getting ready to start putting up Christmas decs soon and start some holiday baking. The problem is, with me watching what I eat, DH having given up cookies, DS#1 not eating cookies, that leaves only the 3 little guys to eat cookies and they don't need that many. So I'm think of just making the cookies to give away and saving a few for the little guys....but it's sooooo hard to resist cookie-dough.
***WW people, I can't find my book that tells me how many extra points that I should add in for exercising. Can someone tell me how many points for walking and how many for running? Thanks.
Today is pilates and step class for me. Yesterday, was supposed to be my 10 mile run, but it didn't happen and I only got 5 miles in....so tomorrow is my long run day and it's scheduled to be a high of 22 degrees. There's no way that I can take my DS2 out in the stroller in that, so, I'll probably be on the TM for 10 miles:scared1:

Kim & Tracy,

It's down to 74 around 7 am this morning, and that's with a cold front lingering just North of our island chain. It can get down to the 50's here if conditions are right. There is snow on the Big Island, atop Mauna Kea.

My girls were wearing their sunprotection shirts at the beach (not jackets). Keeps them from getting sunburn during our winter. LOL.

Here's the link to my photos of the reef walk.
http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?id=792524268#/album.php?aid=40429&id=792524268&op=6

We saw octopus (Tako), Spanish Dancers, urchins, puffer fish, trumpet fish, Moorish Idol, moray and white eels, crabs, slipper lobster, turtles. A whole lot more.

Wow, this thread is bare! Where is everyone?

Life continues to be ok for me. :thumbsup2 Eating is going well, and I am maintaining the 12 pound loss. Nothing new coming off, but it will eventually I know. I am feeling good, with good energy!

I was toying with taking the day off yesterday, but I managed to get on my treadmill for 3 miles (hard 3 too!) which I am happy for. My schedule gets so hairy at times, I have to take the time to exercise when I have the time to do it! Time is at a premium!

Hope everyone is hanging in there........sure is getting cold out there! (right, Jeff????)

Beth

I'm now consoling two crying children, and one crying wife. We had to put one of our dogs to sleep after I got home last night. Immediately had to go to the humane society.

Casey was a very old Chihuahua, and suffering with cancer for 2 years. Last night she could no longer walk, or stand. 14 years old at least, possibly she was 15.

We still have 3 remaining dogs. We had five last December, until Tanner passed away. Oh, and our cat Lucky also passed away this year after at least 18 years.

I thought I had prepared the girls for this dog. We tried a month ago to take her to the humane society, but the girls said no. Tonight they accepted it was finally time.

I don't enjoy the crying involved with my three girls. The waterworks were flowing last night. I need to think about this before getting any new pets to replace the last three we've lost.

Jeff...sorry to hear about your dog. Our dog is a member of the family and when we've lost one, we've all been tearful. :sad1: Good luck taking care of all your girls.

Jeff - Sorry to hear about your dog :( I know from personal experience that it really is like losing a best friend. Hope your girls stay strong.

Beth - Congrats on maintaining the weight loss! 12 pounds is very impressive :)

Tracey - It's been a while since I've calculated WW Activity points. I remember I had a slider that you would use to calculate points based on your weight, activity level (moderate, light etc.) and minutes. I'll see if I can dig mine up. I'm a cookie dough fan too

Dave - I don't know if I'm 100% ready for the 1/2 but I'm definitely looking forward to a vacation and meeting WISHers!

AFM - I just weighed myself and I'm down another 1.8 pounds from last week! Not too much more until I break the 140 mark :cheer2: The food journal is really helpful - I've cut back waaay back on my snacking, lest my PT see what I nibble on during the day.

Have a great night everyone :)

I got out for 8 miles at a 8:17 average pace. Despite blustery tradewinds. Strong headwinds going out, and favorable downwinds on the return. Excellent run.

Hope everyone's training is on track for January. 52 days until the half, 53 for the full.

Hi all!   we miss you.
Jeff...hope that your girls are feeling better today. It sounds like you had an excellent run yesterday:) :) :cool1: .
Beth...great job on maintaining. I've been thinking about you and DS:hug: .
Vicky...thanks for offering to look. I actually joined Sparkpeople (I know Deb belongs) and it calculated the exercise info for me and it's FREE!!!!:cool1:

My parents belong to Costco and saw the Garmin deal and are buying it for me for Christmas, I'm sooooooo excited (part of it will be from DH, too). Now, I'll actually be able to detemine my real pace. I'm a little worried about it being huge on my wrist. Does anyone else have the 305? The scale is slowly creeping down :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1: . I was thinking about having the Dr. check my thyoid levels in Jan., as the weight was stagnant for so long (well it's just moving slooooooow). I still may, as I have some other crazy symptoms. Take care all and have a great day! Stay strong!:grouphug:

Tracy,

Thanks, the girls are doing better. Yesterday and today they were sad, but at least not crying :guilty: like Monday night.

I saw the coupon for the COSTCO deal of $40 off. They sell them really cheap now.

I have the Garmin 405.

Keep in mind the Garmins are not 100% accurate. My training partner and I both have 405's, yet our data is slightly off, even though we run the same distances. His pace shows slower than mine, yet he's always running ahead of me.

Satellite data drops out if you're under trees, near tall buildings, or if satellites in space have been shifted.

Be sure to update the unit's software from Garmin's website when you get it out of the box. If it's been sitting on a warehouse shelf, it's likely out of date on it's programming.

There are all kinds of bells and whistles you can set up. Pace per mile is one of them. Alarms every 10 minutes (or whatever you want to set it at).

Hi Everybody!

This thread is quiet, but so are all the others. I wonder if lots of people aren't getting ready for the big marathon weekend.

I am not having a stellar year. Although, I am now down 9 lbs since md-October, I have gotten ANOTHER steroid shot because I have bronchitis! I am sure glad that a year ago, I didn't sign up for the Goofy! That would have been a total waste!

I am starting to breathe easier this morning, so I am on the upswing. LOL I am also off to see my ortho, today. I guess I will be finding out what the NEXT step is!

LIFE IS GOOD! Connie :cloud9:

Good Morning Folks!

Have not been here for awhile – life has been busy!

It has turned cold here, after mid 60’s yesterday, high today will be 30 degrees, with freezing fog, freezing drizzle and snow – sounds beautiful doesn’t it? I took yesterday off from walking after my 18 miles the day before, but I did do some Pilates exercises and Lisa’s leg routine. My knees have not bothered me for 3 days now! Maybe that is what happens when you go see a Doc, then get knee braces, and get Physical Therapy appts.

PD to all who are suffering colds or just the cold weather!

Tracey – I have the garmin 205, which is the same size as the 305. My husband has the new 405, and after watching him with his, I am glad I have the 205!

Congrats to all who have lost weight - I still have not lost anything, but then, I haven't gained either.

Have a great day everyone!

Hey Lean Meaners!

I have been keeping up on my training and eating better. Work just got busy, but should slow down after 12/12 -- so I'll have plenty of time to post as I get nervous before the Half!

Lynn -- So good to hear from you! The sudden temp drops are awful! We experienced that this weekend, and it wasn't pretty. :cold:

Connie -- Congrats on the fabulous weight loss! I am hoping for something when I get on the scale Saturday. My pants are looser today, so that's always a good sign :thumbsup2

Jeff -- I am so sorry for your loss. It is heartbreaking to lose a furry family member, especially to watch your kids go through it. :grouphug:

Tracey -- Good luck with Sparkpeople! I joined awhile ago. I found myself spending too much time reading and not enough doing, but I'm sure that won't happen to you! :goodvibes

Vicky -- I'm so glad you're doing your a food journal! I am terrible about that, and it is a fantastic tool. Keep it up, it sounds like it's working great! :woohoo:

Beth -- I know it is hard, but you are doing a great job of getting in the workouts whenever you can :cool1:

Dave -- You are absolutely right, all we can control are ourselves, and every decision counts. Deciding to do today's workout is something to celebrate each time. Even when we don't make the best choice, I think we should be proud of making a better choice. It's all a progression.

I'm shopping tomorrow, so I may not make it on the Boards. Everyone have a great weekend!

Howdy to Everyone!
Maria :cutie:

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say hello. As usual LTO and I haven't had time to post much.

Tracey: In general, I earn 1 WW pt for every 10 minutes I run, and 20 min I walk. I'm also ready to decorate for Xmas. I have a rule that I must wait until the day after T'giving, but with it being so late this year I'm having a hard time. I did listen to my xmas music yesterday. I'm trying to get all my shopping done before next week, but I might not make it. Yea for the Garmin. I have the 205 and have gotten used to it's bulkiness.

Maria: Have fun shopping. I hope the scale is good to you this week.

Lynn: Sorry your weather has turned wintery. Ours has too. I'm glad the knee pain is under control.

Vicky: Great job on the weight loss. Writing your food down really does help.

Connie: Thank you for such kind comments. I hope the bronchitis is gone soon. Good job on the weight loss.

Jeff: Sorry about the loss of your pet. It's hard enough to go through the loss yourself, but to have your kids feel the loss too is harder.

Beth: Glad you are feeling good. Good job keeping the weight off.

Dave: Hello.

I lost another 1.4 lbs this week so just 9.6 until my goal. I have continued to track my points every day. My running hasn't been very good. At first I was sick, then just so busy with life. The unseasonably cold weather hasn't helped motivate me to run outside. I did a speed workout on the TM yesterday and I hope that gets me revved up again.

OK, so it's just 1 week until Thanksgiving. Does anyone have a plan on how they will stay on track, or will you just allow yourself to indulge? I have a couple ideas. I'm signing up to run a 5K in the morning to earn 300 extra calories. In the few days leading up to turkey day I hope to cut back a little extra. I will find the calorie count (or WW pts value) for each item ahead of time and plan where I want to spend my calories. I plan on making a pumpkin pie with egg substitute and skim milk and use low cal cool whip on top. All the other items on the menu will be made by my MIL, so I can't control how they are made. So what suggestions do you have?

Have a great day everyone,
Cindy

Good morning!

Good job, Cindy! You are doing just great. I am just wondering, do you like the points because it's easier to keep track of....

The ortho was just giddy with my progress. He added some more exercises and is letting me move my arm away from my body now. Before too long, I will be able to do my own hair and a number of other things that we take for granted.

Make a great day y'all!
