Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Mike: So sorry to hear your news. Bummer about the surgery, but even worse that they didn’t get back to you sooner. I don’t blame you for being so upset. Be smart about your recovery and I’m sure this won’t set you back too far. Sorry about losing your genius post. I usually write up my posts in Word then copy it to avoid just that.

Jeff: Sorry you had to suffer thru another day of running in paradise. Thanks for posting the picture. How great is that!

Debra: I’m glad to see you back on this thread. It will be good to concentrate on XT for a while. Always “having” to run can be draining. Good luck with the weight loss goals. I’m sure if you lose 15 lbs it will go a long way in helping you cut 5 minutes from you time. I read in RW that you can expect 2 sec/mile/lb lost.

Tracey: I don’t have those tread things for my running shoes, but was thinking they would have been good to have, especially as I was trying to run up hill. I love your picture with Minnie. You look so happy!!! I like your idea of including 1 household chore on your list. I’m going to start that too. Good luck with DS potty training. I feel for you. My twins will be 4 this weekend and we still struggle some days. I cleaned up 4 accidents yesterday alone. So cool that you met Team Hoyt. They are supposed to be at my marathon in February as well as Frank Shorter and Bill Rodgers. I’m psyched to meet them all though will probably be too nervous to say anything.

Jeanne: I always thought that NC would be a nice compromise weather wise. Sign up for Goofy!! It’s the 5th anniversary, there are a bunch of us doing it, the more the merrier and you can always go back in 2011 for your jacket. I totally agree with the distance training and weight loss issue. Every marathon I ever trained for caused me to gain weight. I think it’s a combination of my body craving more calories and my mind deciding I deserve that second or third helping.

Beth: Good luck with the Biggest Loser competition. Winning the money will be nice, but bragging rights will even be better. Have a great time at Foxwoods. Enjoying yourself guilt-free for the weekend will so be worth being a little more diligent this week. Stick with it!!

Julie: Congrats on your first marathon. I look forward to reading your race report. You deserve some celebratory treats. Enjoy!!

Susie: Welcome to the Lean Mean thread. We are here to help you through the tough spots and be inspired by your successes. I’m glad to see you’re doing Goofy 2010 as well. I haven’t heard of the Advocare supplements so will be interested in hearing how they work for you. I’ve found a great “before” picture of me that I’ll post as soon as I can find a nice “after” shot. Of course the “after” shot is still a work in progress.

Maria: Hugs to you. I’m so sorry you fell, but so proud that you got up and kept going!!! Good for you for not giving in. No one can take that away from you!!! I’m glad you’ve signed up for 2010. Maybe I’ll get a chance to meet you then. I’m willing to bet we’ve passed within miles of each other in our daily lives. Once I finally meet you we’ll probably run into each other all the time.

Amy: Sorry you didn’t get your picture with the characters. I never found them last year when I finished either.

Yesterday was a rest day. I brought all 3 kids with me to a WW meeting. I really felt like I needed the meeting. I didn't lose any weight for the week, which is pretty sad since I had just run 18 miles the day before, but you can imagine how the eating went last week. I'm not sure if it's the cold weather or what, but I'm having a hard time sticking to my WW pts since Christmas. I'm trying to be diligent this week so that I can have a bit of a treat this weekend at my kids' birthday party. I guess I just have to keep trying until I find the groove again.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Jeff: Oh, I see where you're going with the birthday wishes then. No, the "new decade" comment was a euphemism for me gaining so much weight that I'm into another of the "10s" (130, 140, 150, 160, and so on). So much for being subtle. Trust me, when it comes to my birthday, I announce everywhere, to everyone, and very directly! (Some might say annoyingly.) :rotfl2:

You are the social butterfly-I think it's cool that you tried to meet as many people as possible. It's kind of like your decision to do Dopey. In for a penny, in for a pound!

Mike: Vent away! That's bad news. I'd be angry too, especially because of the timing. I'm not sure why they didn't tell you in November--I was MIA from WISH--but that really is not cool. (In my parlance, "not cool" is the pg-version of profanity--as strong as it gets.) Will you even be able to train enough for your IM to complete it safely? I mean, I know you have the determination and the overall health, but I don't know what the surgery and recovery entails.

Tracey: But quickies are fun, aren't they? At least occasionally? Especially if the kids aren't around.... :rotfl2: Seriously, I know you miss you DSs when they're in school, so I hope you're doing good things for yourself. I can't be snarky to my students as I'm not working there anymore. (Long story, unstable contract and even more unstable chair.) I'll just have to be snarky to other people, about other things. Any takers? :lmao:

Cindy: Thanks for the encouragement. I think I read the same thing about the connection between weight loss and pace. Added bonus! I'm certain you'll get back in the groove. Like you said to Jeanne, I always find it hard to lose weight while training, especially on the LRs. I've never done WW, but I've always thought it sounded like a good support system. I just checked out your blog. I didn't realize you were attempting to BQ. How cool is that!!! You're so close and I just know you're going to make it. Wow. :cheer2:

As for me: Okay, I'll admit it. I'm having a pity party day today. Not with the exercise, which I generally enjoy. (Short run this morning, pilates tonight--first session in forever!) Not even with the eating, which frankly I'm pretty neutral about these days. It's the whole stuff that goes with the weight loss: tracking food, measuring portions, counting my glasses of water, planning balanced meals (one for me, one for DOOD), my regular (in my case, daily) date with the scale. I hate it. I don't want to be that person--probably because it reminds me of my DM's lifelong dieting. I just want it all to go on automatic, to have the weight and food stuff just take care of itself. And it doesn't. If I don't pay attention, I quickly gain weight and don't even recognize it.

I know that's that's what I have to do in order to be the healthiest, strongest me possible. But I'd rather just run extra miles, even if that doesn't address my "who needs moderation" issues. Gosh, I hate a whiner, so I'm really annoying myself. :sad2: So somebody tell me to "man up" and quit whining. On second thought, maybe you can just beat me into submission. :badpc: That might work. Or at least give me something else to complain about. :teeth:

Hey everyone!

Back from the Goofy Challenge and my eating is now back to normal. My weight has started to drop back off very slowly, but I will continue to do my thing. No activity today, but I did a 4 miler on Sunday and 5 yesterday.

I'm way behind on my reading but a big HELLO to everyone!

Good Morning, Lean Mean Brigade!

I didn't feel like it, but I made myself do 2 mi on the TM and yoga yesterday after work. I do think my arms are starting to get a little stronger from all the downward facing dog, so I'm calling that a positive. :thumbsup2

Yesterday I made a conscious effort to eat less, and pay attention. There was a little incident with Lindt balls:rolleyes1 , but other than that I did really well. That's what I get for staying up too late. Jon Stewart made me hungry! ;)

Chris -- Great to see you! I'm glad the scale is going your way, that helps so much with feeling great! :thumbsup2

Debra -- How was pilates? Of course you can express your frustration with us, we certainly feel free to share our less than stellar moments! I also balk at all the measuring, counting, and general effort required to lose weight. If it was easy, everyone would do it! :lmao: I can't believe you don't get scifi, I think that in vaguely unconstitutional...you do know you can watch episodes at itunes, right? Or amazon -- I guess it's a pretty minimal fee.

Cindy -- You win the award for commitment! Taking all 3 kids to WW is above and beyond, you go girl! :cool1: Plus, to get out in our ridiculous weather and run -- you are totally awesome! When I grow up, I want to be like Cindy! ::yes::

Tracey -- How do you like Jillian's 30-day shred? She is a tough one! On last night's BL she said she likes to watch the contestants in pain, it's cathartic for her. I think that says it all -- but I'd love to have her train me. I might not survive, but I'd look good when when she was done! :rotfl2:

Mike -- Oh, I am so sorry this happened to you. You're right, that is a ridiculous amount of time to wait for your diagnosis. Health care is so broken, I don't think all the king's horses and all the king's men could put it back together again...:grouphug:

Jeff -- Awesome photo! You are rolling in the bling, dude! :woohoo:

Beth, Jeanne, Susie -- How's it goin' today?

So, what did everyone have for breakfast? Inquiring minds looking for new ideas and all...I had low sugar oatmeal with 3/4 of a sliced banana, and I am feeling really full.

Maria :upsidedow

Debra: Hey, I hear ya! I don't want this 'weight' thing to last forever. I don't want to be a slave to the scale. When I did my weight loss center thing in 2005, I only weighed in at the doctor's office once a month and not at all in between. That actually was to my benefit, because I wasn't a slave to the numbers. I just knew that I felt better and thinner as I went along. I want to get back to that again!!!! :thumbsup2

Chris: Welcome back! Glad to see things going well for you! :cool1:

Cindy: When I did WW the first time, the meetings were really important! Kept my motivation up and weight loss up too!

Mike: I only hope that once you have the surgery, it will all be easy to get back to training!

Things are going pretty well with our little biggest loser competition here! I like having a little competition! Eating well, and getting my workouts in.....can't do better than that!

Beth

Hi Lean Meaners! I've been back from Disney for a couple of days now. So it's back to the real world and back to my routine of exercise and clean eating. I weighed myself yesterday and it seems I gained some weight while I was there. Boo!

I'm slowly catching up on posts... while trying to work :rolleyes1

Mike - Sorry to hear about the surgery. I would be upset too if the doctor took so long to get back to me.

Cindy - I need one of those for running! My face always freezes and I sound so silly trying to talk after coming in from a run.

Maria - Mmm... Lindt ...

Debra - I hear ya! I'm the same way - I really have to pay attention to everything - exercise, eating, etc. Because when I don't it all goes downhill really quickly. Some days it just feels like a chore. Although it doesn't help, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that way

That's all from me for now... Have a fantastic day everyone!

Hey team,

Hope everyone is enjoying their day, and getting back out on the road, treadmill, or in the gym.

Vicky, I always have to stop and think for a second when I read your posts. I know a Yvonne Foo in another running group, and of course I get you both mixed up.

Anyways, I think Chris is finally coming out of his shell. Wearing his team colors, introducing himself to others. Gosh, sounds like he's becoming, ME! LOL, way to go Chris.

Maria, how's your chin healing? I hope your over it, and ready to get back at it!

I got out for 8 miles yesterday, but my legs said uh no, try 6.

LOST was filming, and stole my parking spot at the park. Boo. Reminder, season premier tonight!

Bye for now, have a great day!:thumbsup2

Chris: Great that you're back! And good news that the weight has begun to drop (I'm waiting) and you're back in the post-Goofy recovery groove. :cool1:

Maria: I'm so proud of you doing yoga! Are you taking a class? The pilates left me sore, but I do so want those arm and core muscles. Thanks for the commiseration on the SciFi channel. It's not fair, I know, but DOOD gave up his sports package (soccer) and I gave up the package with the SciFi. I never think about iTunes, as we tend to abuse our Netflix account. I'm not sure I can wait for BSG, though, so you've offered me a good alternative.

Breakfast? I had the same thing I always have for breakfast: oatmeal with raisins and 2 tsp. brown sugar (trying to eliminate that, but I love the sweets) and a banana. It's like we're related! Wish I could help you with the variety, though....

Beth: Congrats on the added incentive of your BL competition. I bet everyone is doing really well, which makes you all winners!

Vicky: So great to see you back here, now with a face to name and all....You're a clean eater, huh? I'd like to learn more about that, as I like to think that I follow some of its principles. (Of course, I know I like to delude myself, too. :lmao: )

Jeff: How can you boo anything having to do with Lost? Isn't the series worth the temporary loss of your parking space? (Said by someone who doesn't need to deal with that situation and is currently DISing while watching the recap....)

As for me: Thanks, everyone for your kind words. It helps a lot to know I'm not the only person who feels the way I do about all the rituals involving weight loss. You're right, Maria, if it were easy everyone would do it. (I feel it was easier to complete the marathon. Sheesh.) I'm still in a bit of a funk about it, but your support helps more than I can say. And maybe confession IS good for the soul. :upsidedow

Hey Lean Meaners!
Cindy....Thanks for mentioning the 2sec/mile/lb info. That gives me something to shoot for. My DS loves his treads and then he put screws into an older pair of shoes and uses those for ice (this weekend he found an extra set of treads at Marshall's for $4.99:thumbsup2 ). He loves to run in the snow....unfortunately we're not getting any! Thanks for saying I looked happy.....I was. Crossing that finish line gave me a huge sense of empowerment. All my other kiddos were potty trained by this age so it's becoming a struggle and I think I may back off for a month. Are you having a big party for your little guys this weekend?
Deb....quickies are always fun! I knew I could count on you to see the less than clean side of things;) . Snark away sistah.....we can handle it. Sorry about the job, I must have missed that(I'm just glad to have you back around here). We all deserve a pity party now and then. Count me in as one who hates the counting, measuring, weighing......I wish it would just happen on it's own.
Chris....what? I didn't meet you in Disney either. Congratulations Goofy finisher. That's amazing.
Maria....:cheer2: for getting the yoga and treadmill in. I like the 30 day shred....she's a tough cookie, though. At one point she says that if you're looking for an easier way to do a jumping jack...."There is none!!!" If I could get past her making me cry, I'd love to train with her. Her comment from the beginning of this season runs through my head alot, "Do you know what else is gonna be hard? EVERYTHING!" That helps me push just a little bit harder. For breakfast....I had the usual whole wheat bagel, 1T peanut butter, and fruit spread. Oh, and lots of coffee.
Beth...great job on the BL contest. Are you adding anything extra in to change things up?
Vicky....I didn't get to meet you either. Next time, I'm making a list.
Jeff...Nice job on the 6 miles. I think it's cool that they're filming Lost by your home, but sorry they took your spot.

I'm trying really hard to keep track of my food intake, but it's not easy and I'm being less than diligent. I keep convincing myself that because the Banana pineapple cupcakes are all natural that they're ok to eat! They are not.....I need to put the focus back on food as fuel. Now, if only my sweet tooth would agree:confused3 . My husband met a new contractor yesterday....they started talking and.....he has 4 kids, we have 4 kids, they love Disney, we love Disney, DH says, "My son and wife are runners...." new guy says, "My wife started running a couple of years ago, she got it into her head to run the Disney 1/2"......my DH says, "We just got back!" Small world....now if I can just convince DH that we can go back next year::yes:: ! 4 miles on the TM for me today. Take care all.

Morning everyone! I think I'm going to look into taking yoga classes. There are so many of them, I have no idea where to start. And before you say it - no one I know goes to yoga classes :) My gym has a private instructor (actually they only do private classes) so I might do a few with her and get a feel for how to do the movements. I'll see if I can bring a couple of people to bring down the cost.

Jeff - I guess I have to find a way to stand out more... I forgot Lost films in Hawaii. If they took my spot, I so would have been out there with an autograph book and camera :)

Debra - Mmm... clean --ish  I really have to make a better effort this year. Snacking is one of my weakness. Like I had popcorn while watching Lost last night. I didn't get to watch the second hour but yay for shirtless Sawyer!

Julie - I think I missed a whole bunch of WISH'ers when I was late to the Pop meet. Maybe I'll post my pic in my signature and that will me easier to spot. I'm pretty shy so I'm not too good about going up to people.

That's all for now! Make it a good one!

Hello Lean Meaners!

Jeanne - I love that you're contemplating Goofy. :cool1:

Cindy - 12.2 in the snow, wow! :worship: And then the TM after that, double wow! :worship: :worship: My celebratory treat eating has not stopped yet, but I'm working on it.

Debra - Hi. How goes the cross-training?

Mike - Sorry to hear your news about surgery. pixiedust: for a speedy recovery.

Tracey - How's your neck? Good for you, tracking what you eat.:thumbsup2 It's a good thing you didn't ask me about those banana pineapple cupcakes, because I would have assured you they were considered fruit. :lmao:

Maria - What a good, healthy breakfast you had. Good for you! :cheer2: Mine wasn't as healthy as yours, but at least I opted for Cheerios instead of Lucky Charms today.

Vicky - I wish I had met you at the Pop meet. Maybe next time? How was your race? :)

Hello to all of the other lean meaners too.

Have a great week!

Julie: mmmmm......Lucky Charms are my favorite!!!! I have a hard time resisting if they are in the house. Hence, my kids do not have them right now! Any other cereal I can resist......LC I can't. Good for you for picking Cheerios!

Today is errand day, and packing for the weekend! :cool1: :cool1: I have to fit in the gym right now.......have to keep the momentum with my Biggest Loser competition! It really helped me resist my hunger last night.....hey, it's $60 bucks on the line!!!! I didn't eat anything after dinner last night.....so, good for me!

Debra: We are also counting 'points' for each day....right now we can earn points for taking a vitamen a day, getting 25 grams of fiber/daily, 2 points for 30 of exercise (to encourage the third member of our group to get it in!), and getting 64 oz of water a day. So, we can earn 5 points total a day. The winner of the point count each week will earn a dollar from the other two BL! I think we will change it up every week for the point earning. Next week it will be 5 fruits/veggies a day instead of the fiber....will help us with healthy habits!

So far so good, but I am only in the first week!

Off to the gym.....

Beth

Hey everyone!

Just a quick drive by in between classes/work. I'll check in on everyone later today or tomorrow.

Jeanne - I just wanted to mention that you need to do Goofy because.....
Didn't the half volunteers receive jackets in '08? If so, and they didn't this year, that might mean that the jackets may be cut from the full volunteers next year. So, don't hold out for something that might not happen. Come join us in doing the Goofy. Do you think we can talk Nancy into joining us? :teeth:

Day 4 on the Advocare supplements. So far, so good. I'll explain what I'm doing later. It's top secret. (JK - I just don't have time to go into it now).

I had a visit with the orthopedic surgeon this am regarding my knee. He wants to do an MRI to make sure I don't have a lateral meniscus tear. He thinks it more tendonitis and with a little therapy and some good drugs, I should be good to go. :)

Beth, I'm so glad I'm not the only grown-up who loves Lucky Charms! They're just so, um, magically delicious. :lmao:

Good luck with the Biggest Loser Competition. My DH did one last year and work and he won! :cool1:

Susie, take care of those knees!

Hey Vic, how you doing?

Have a happy Aloha Friday everyone. :thumbsup2

I opened a fortune cookie tonight at Panda Express, and it said "You have a captivating style all your own." Those cookie makers are GOOD at fortune telling!

Hi guys....
Vic.....we've missed you around here. I also missed seeing you at the Pop meet......I must've been hiding behind a beach chair.
Vicky....I'm so not shy, but I felt like it at the Pop meet.:confused3
Julie...I guess I could count those cupcakes as a fruit...did I mention they have cream cheese icing? That's a dairy right?;) Thanks for asking, my neck feels better, not perfect, but it's getting there.
Beth....I love the little competitions within the competition, especially when it's to encourage a friend to exercise. My DH is going to work on his "healthy living" checklist this weekend (thanks Cindy). Maybe I'll give him backrub points. Good luck with being the BL!
Susie...take care of that knee. I hope your Dr. appt. went well.
Jeff...I think they made that cookie just for you.
Amy, Deb, Jeanne, Stacie, Mike, Chris, Maria, Cindy and everybody else....
When I signed up for the Disney 1/2 a year ago, I really thought that I would run this one and then go back to 5k's and running for my sanity and health. Then I crossed that finish line on Jan. 10 and began thinking about running another one! I admit it.....I'm hooked! Plus, I'd like to quicken my time a bit. I was so absorbed in looking at everything and truly just enjoying the experience at Disney that now I'd like to shave off some time::yes:: . So, I'm thinking about running the St. Louis 1/2 in April. I have until Feb. 10 to decide. How does this become so addicting?:hyper: Have a great weekend everybody.

Hey Everyone :wave2:

No activity to report, but I'm at least eating better right? Had both kids so that limits any activity.

Hope everyone is doing good and thanks for the encouragement. Ya'll Rock! :thumbsup2

Hey Lean Meaners!

I'm feelin' lean and mean this morning! I was down 3.2 at my weigh in, for a total of 5 since 1/2. I realize this isn't spectacular, but considering it included a week at Disney, I am thrilled! ::yes::

I made myself get on the TM for 3 mi last night, so I'm glad that bore fruit. We also ate all the meals we planned this week, which is a huge help.

Chris -- We should all have some days with no activity. A little rest will result in some awesome results!

Tracey -- I know what you mean! I honestly thought I might not finish my first Half, and when I did I was elated. DH immediately wanted to come back, so I signed up without really thinking about it too much, and now we are hooked! It has become a habit! I don't see myself doing alot of Halfs, but dh is signing up for another one in May, and contemplating the Mickey for 2011! I can't even imagine what I would weigh if I wasn't working out. I think that's part of why it's addictive, you always feel good when you're done! :cool1:

Susie -- I hope everything turns out as simple as possible with your knee, and you are feeling fit asap! :flower3:

Julie -- My little guy is more of a cocoa puffs fan, which is great for me since I don't particularly enjoy them. It's a good thing he doesn't love Honeycomb, because I wouldn't be able to leave those alone! :rotfl2:

Beth -- I love your BL challenge! :goodvibes I'm on the BL7 one here, and that has been eyeopening -- some people really lose alot of weight each week, and I am not necessarily one of them! I just can't seem to restrict my calories enough to make that happen, but I am doing better with following WW, so hopefully I will gradually reduce my intake.

Vicky and Debra -- I started doing yoga at work in October (one hour class, once a week), and I really love it. I'm not sure what kind it is, but the class is tailored so that everyone, no matter size, can participate. It isn't necessarily easy, but I do feel relaxed afterwards. I'm going to spell this wrong, but my best pose is chivasa, where you lay on the floor and just breathe. ;) I also bought the BL Yoga dvd, and I'm enjoying that as well but it isn't as relaxing. It's "weight loss yoga" :confused3

Jeff -- I agree you are one of a kind...:p My chin is almost back to it's normal shade, with only a small bump left. It really doen't bother me, and I'm sure it will be a distant memory soon.

Vic -- So great to see you! We miss you! :grouphug:

Jeanne -- Are those Goofy plans firming up? I understand it's 40% full...:scratchin

Cindy -- Are you still getting out in all the snow? I just wish we weren't going to into a deep freeze this weekend. :scared:

I am sure I left someone out -- and probably someone I should know...:sad1:

But I hope everyone has an awesome weekend!
Maria

Tracey - Cream cheese is most definitely dairy, so you would have been fine eating those cupcakes as far as I'm concerned. :lmao: Good luck deciding on your next race.

Chris - We all have those no activity days, right? I've only run once since the marathon. :confused3 It's just so cold outside - hard to get moving.

Maria - I think 5 lbs is spectacular! Good for you! :cool1: I'm glad to hear that your chin is getting back to normal. :goodvibes
