weekly watercraft rentals??

I remember reading a while back that some resorts were offering an unlimited use watercraft pass. I thought it was $199 for a family, for a week, but I don't recall where you had to be staying to use it, and what types of boats were available with it. Does anyone know if this is still offered and any of the details??

You have to be on the lakes (Floridian,Poly,Contemp,WL or Campground) to qulify for a $199 family pass.

We're doing a split stay with only part of the week at the YC. Would we still be able to purchase this? We have 12 1/2 year old twin boys and I think they would really get there money's worth from this.

Hi snowmouse,

When we were at the Poly it is for the length of stay at that resort. It is well worth it! We were at the Poly for 3 nights/4 days. We were able to use the boats even on the day we checked out. The kids loved it! I believe the rules for driving the watermice are 12 yo. We laughed because you only had to be 12 to drive the watermice, but 18 to rent a bike!! Too funny!!

One more question; when you obtain one of these passes, how often can you use a watercraft and how long can you keep it out? I can't imagine, for instance, that you can take a pontoon boat or a water mouse out for a couple of hours at a time,or a bicycle for a whole day. Anyone know the answer to this?

Hi!

We just came back from staying at the VWL, AKL, and then finally BCV (3,4,3 days) and we initially signed up our first day we were at VWL and was told it was for the entire stay as long as you stayed at a Disney resort. We had no problem using it for our entire stay (we gave our resort card each time, and received our bracelets. The price is $199 plus tax- for up to 5 people - which came to about $210 and we signed all the paper work in advance. We are a family of 4 - 2 adults, DS (13 - who with spiked hair just makes the 60 inch height requirement and minimum age of 12 for going solo in a watermouse) and DD9. We were told on the watermice we could stay out as long as we wanted, but to be on the safe side should come back at about an hour later as the water patrol is always on the lookout for teens by themselves for an extended (my son took one out on the lake by himself) and recommended we come in to change vehicles if we decided to stay longer. We always went out together, but this is not necessary. We also used 2-way radios to keep in contact with each other which was fun. We also rented a pontoon but only stayed on it a short time because it seemed so slow compared to the watermice! We also rented bikes twice and had a great time going to Ft. Wilderness for breakfast, enjoying the outdoors, and seeing the campsites decorated for the holidays (you would not believe the RV decorations - it was almost like riding through a decorated neighborhood!). We had a great time and thought it was a great location to rent from because we could go so many places. They did have surrey bikes, however, they are not part of the family plan. I would highly recommend the plan and the Wilderness Lodge marina if you plan to stay at WDW for an extended time or plan to use them for a long period during your stay.

We've done this at both GF and Poly and it is truly unlimitedas uromac explained. Besides the pontoons and watermice, you can also take out a sailboat which my DH did. We're planning to do it again in March-April at the Poly.

We haven't done it but I believe I've read that Y&B Club has the same program.

I called POR to compare hourly rates today, as most of our stay will be there. I spoke to a nice man at the rental station who told me that POR also offers this week family pass. He confirmed the $199 price and said that included water mice, canopy boats, pontoon boats, and bikes. He said the hourly rate for 1 mouse (?) would be $32, so this seems like a great deal. My boys think this is going to be the highlight of their trip.

If I remember correctly you can only use the plan at the lake you sign up at.

example: If you sign up at YC / BC the plan cannot be use at the Poly/WLV/ contemp/GF and vice-versa.

Is this for more than one watermice at a time? Can we take 3 out together? We have 5 of us myself, dh, ds-14, dd-12, and ds-8. We did not get to do this last year and promised my ds-14 that we would do it this year. We will be splitting our stay at the poly and akl 6 nights each. This sounds like a great deal! Thanks!!

We used the plan ($199. plus tax) at the GF a few weeks ago and it was terrific! I don't remember the age minimum for the watermice, (my brother is 14 and he was able to take his own), but each "eligible" family member can have their own for as long as they like. We took a pontoon boat out every day for at least an hour. It's definately worth it! You can only use the plan at the resort you sign up at.

Wow! thanks for all the info. This $199 deal sounds terrific. We love to use bikes and watercraft during our stay, but it is so expensive.

You are correct - if you do the plan at WL, you cannot transfer it to a different resort if your lodging changes. You do NOT have to be staying at that particular resort to use the recreation plan, though.

IMHO, it is the best value at WDW (except maybe for connections vouchers at B&C )... our family of 5 used it during an 8 day stay last summer, and it was great! Expecially for teenage boys!!!

I think it is rotten that it is the same price for a couple staying for a weekend as it is for a family of 5 staying for two weeks - just mho.
