I am planning a family trip (12 of us) for July 1st-July 10th in 2011. Being that this is July 4th week, how busy can we expect it to be? Busier than most weeks in Summer or about the same?

Also our points are split between SSR and VWL so I was thinking I would book a VWL studio at 11 months and a 2BR at SSR at the 11 month mark hoping to change to BCV, BW or BLT at the 7 month mark or switch the 2BR to VWL.

What do you think the chances are of switching at 7 months or having a waitlist come through? While it would be great if we could get both rooms at the same resort, it is not a necessity. We had both rooms at VWL a couple of years ago and it worked out great (two doors apart from each other!) but I am convinced that probably would not happen again!

Or am I better off booking the 2BR for a part of the time (5 of the 9 nights) at VWL and the balance at SSR at 11 months since I do not have enough points at 11 months (even with banking and borrowing) and gambling that i will be able to get the rest of the days. I do think the family would think a split stay with having to move mid week would be a bummer. DH, DD and I have spilt stays before and do not mind, however really do not want the hassle for my family who does not get to Disney very often.

If it was just up to me I would try for a GV at SSR but my DB and D-SIL and family really would like to stay in a resort that is not bus only transportation.

Thoughts on how you would book this if it was your vacation? :confused3

Thanks!

Gail

It will definitely be busier than most weeks in the summer. It's one of the busiest weeks of the entire year.

July 4 and the several days surrounding is a very high DVC demand time and thus making switches at 7 months can be difficult unless switching to SSR. It is also the most crowded time of the summer at WDW and usually the fourth most crowded week of the year behind Christmas and the two Easter weeks. MK can reach capacity on the 4th.

We have gone to Disney every week in the summer, from early July through the 3rd week in August.

4th of July week was by far, the busiest out of all of them. Matter of fact, the crowds seemed to be a bit better for each week, going forward.

But, just plan for the 4th to be very busy and work around it and you will have a great time!!

Thanks for the feedback! I was expecting it to be busy, I guess I wasn't thinking that it would be comparable to Christmas or Easter.

It appears my best bet is to book SSR in the 2BR and VWL for the studio right away understanding I probably will not be able to switch.

We'll just have to go assuming it will be super busy and plan our fun with crowds!
