Hi all! I need some help if you don't mind...I'm helping my cousin put together a list of music to play at her wedding reception (In September of this year) and I was looking for some suggestions from you guys! I'm looking for anything from slow songs to fast dancing songs. If anyone has anything they'd like to suggest, I'd greatly appreciate it!! Thanks in advance!

At Last by Etta James is a BEAUTIFUL first dance song or just for slow dancing. LOOOOOOVE this one!

Anything by Shania Twain is usally nice for a first song or slow song.

We are Family is great for the bridal party if it includes a lot of family members

YMCA (of course), The Chicken Dance, Macarena, Cha Cha Slide and/or Electric Slide--these all get people on the dance floor

I'll post again when I think of other ones.

Good luck--I love weddings for the dancing!

Hi!

I used to DJ for weddings, and here are my faves:

Number 1 by FAR: In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
2. Home - Michael Buble
3. More Than A Woman - Billy Joel
4. Open Arms - Journey
5. More - Frank Sinatra

Fast Songs:

1. Bust A Move - Young MC
2. Living On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
3. What A Man - Salt n Peppa
4. Hot In Herr - Nelly
5. Hey Ya - OutKast

Oh My Gosh, These songs just dated me!!
:thumbsup2

At our wedding we danced our first dance to "This never happened before" by Paul McCartney (from the movie "The Lake House"). We also had "Can you feel the love tonight" from the Lion King (it was a hit. Many were dancing). Also had "All I ask of you" from the Phantom of the Opera (the 2004 movie). Another hit. :goodvibes

Oh! Jump Around by House of Pain is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUN!!! And it's hysterical to see people of all shapes and sizes "jumping around"!

That is a great one!!

Charade- Thank you so much! The song from the move The Lakehouse was one I was looking for but couldn't remember the name!

If you are country fans, Save a Horse, Ride A Cowboy is always fun. The entire crowd sings the refrain and the inebriated pretend they're riding a bronco and lassoing the ladies, etc. LOL

Slow tunes - I love "Slow Dance" by Billy Joel. Cherish by Kool and the Gang? The Search is Over by Survivor?

ETA: Can you tell I'm an 80's gal?

Some we had at our wedding that were big hits:

YMCA - The Village People

Paradise by the Dashboard Light - Meatloaf (This one is always a big hit with my family. Girls go to one side and guys to the other then we all sing it to our partners. My husband even slid across the floor at me toward the end during, "Now I'm praying for the end of time..."!! :rotfl: It was great!)

Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks (This is our family "anthem"! ;) )

The Chicken Dance

Hells Bells - AC/DC (we were introduced at our reception with this song!)

Goodnight Irene - I don't remember who sang this. I asked my DJ to find it, because it was my grandparents' 50th anniversary the week after we got married. This was the first song they danced to at their reception.

I know we had a ton of '70's and '80's stuff. Music was a huge part of our wedding and reception. Our DJ gave us a 10 page list of the usual songs she played. We went through and crossed off the ones we didn't like/want and added others that weren't there. She did a great job.

Good luck!!

Thank you!! I love the Meatloaf song idea! How fun!!

I love these slow songs and always ask if they can play them.

Lady in Red
I Swear - by Michael John Mongemry
Dream Come True -- Frozen Ghost

Three fantastic first dance songs are:

Ton Of Love ~ Chris Cagle (one of my absolute favorite songs!)
Lost In This Moment ~ Big N Rich
When You Love Someone ~ Bryan Adams or also sang by John Rich

Other good ones:

What A Beautiful Day ~ Chris Cagle
The train song (come on ride the train, and ride it ~ don't know the real name!) so people get up and *ride the train* around the place!! FUN!!

Lyrics to Ton of Love! (look it up and listen ~ it is AWESOME!!)

I'm blown away when I look at you
While you look at me
'Cause you see me so completely
I'm overwhelmed by the way it feels
'Cause I know it's real
When you reach out to touch me
You consume me, you know I can't resist
And you move me, with the power of a little kiss

It feels like a ton of love
Followed by a mountain of
Emotions coming over me
To take complete control of me
And I get swept away
Deeper in it every day
And Lord, I swear that I'll never give you up
'Cause girl, you hit my heart with a ton of love
When we're apart your in my heart
You're on my mind
'Cause our souls are connected
And when the distance between us grows
Everybody knows that we're not affected
And when you're with me it's heaven right here on earth
Girl, you give me more than any one man could deserve
It feels like a ton of love
Followed by a mountain of
Emotions coming over me
To take complete control of me
And I get swept away
Deeper in it every day
And Lord, I swear that I'll never give you up
'Cause girl, you hit my heart with a ton of love
Girl, I get swept away
Deeper in it every day
And Lord, I swear that I'll never give you up
'Cause girl, you hit my hear with a ton of love
I'm blown away when I look at you
You take complete control of me
You consume me
You move me
When we're apart you're in my heart

A *REAL* oldie, but one that will get the grandparents up and dancing, and anyone else, too, who has pretensions of being a really good dancer: "In the Mood". It is the ultimate Swing song.

Here's one NOT to use: the theme from M*A*S*H*. Several DJ's have told me that this instrumental is a popular request at weddings -- I'm *hoping* that those people didn't realize that the real title of the song is "Suicide is Painless".

Some of the things are regional...I've never been to a wedding in the west where they played the chicken dance, but the wedding I went to in New Jersey *definitely* had it. So make sure to go over this list with the couple, or people in their wedding area, just to make sure you aren't going to play something that the guests have only seen on TV.

They don't have a DJ or band? IF they do, they might want to leave it up to the DJ or band...I'm sure one of the prominent Dis posters would agree with that. :)

After that I am of no help, b/c we had an Irish music band play, and nothing contemporary was played (other than a version of I can't help falling in love with you that the male singer from the band sang for us, and messed up our first dance, b/c he had the beat ALL WRONG and we coudln't figure it out enough to recover. :( :( :( ). (oh, and they did an instrumental version of the Indiana Jones theme for our recessional, which they did just fine)

Yes, they do have a DJ. The DJ is the one who told us to come up with a list of songs we wanted played so that's why I was looking for some ideas. I've never run into that before in DJs, they usually just ask what time of music the couple would like played, but this one asked for a list. And I will make sure to go over it with the couple, we're working on it together! In our area, there's no kind of wrong music and the music is for the couple, not the guests. :)
