We have decided to get our wedding license from the courthouse, i was wondering if anyone here has done this, as i have read that a lot of people get them my mail.
I would like to know what the procedures are and roughly how long it takes
:confused3

there was a big queue when we were there in november and we were still in and out within an hour. you get an hours free parking too!

We got ours at the courthouse in Kissimmee. It was incredibly easy, no wait, just filled out the papers, and left. EASY! Don't spend the extra money if you have the time.

We actually married at the Courthouse (military reasons) while down at Disney for our planning session. We then had our ceremony/reception a few months later. It was very easy. Amazing how you can be married in less than 30 min! If you have the time it is a big savings.

I'm from the UK also (if you didn't know ;)) and we went to the courthouse to pick up our license, we used Kissimee because it seemed easier to me rather than driving in downtown Orlando.

These are directions from Crossroads at Lake Buena Vista :

Highway #535 to Highway #192. Turn left onto Highway #192East, travel approximately 6 miles (there'll be lots of roadworks and it's past the Walmart which will be on your right). Turn right into John Young Parkway. At fourth traffic light turn left onto Patrick Street. Go straight and courthouse is at corner of Rose and Patrick Streets - I'd advise parking in the long stay car park across the street - just in case. The Marriage License office is located in courthouse building on 2nd Floor.

People will be sitting around but don't fall into that trap go straight up to the counter and you should see a clipboard with a sign in list THEN sit down - they'll call you up and then give you the form to complete.

Your officiant, after the ceremony will sign the licence and then send it back to the courthouse. At the courthouse they have a self-addressed envelope that you would have completed when you picked up your licence, the courthouse then take copies of said licence and stamp on it true & certified copy then mail it out to you. Ours was waiting for us when we got home.

Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone i feel better knowing we are not the only one's to do it this way, i also thought i would have to wait months for the wedding license (copy) to arrive home
When we inquired with virgin how long it takes for the wedding license to be returned they said between 4 and 6 months. I'm glad that we decided to go direct through Disney for the wedding :mickeyjum :goofy:

I downloaded the marriage application from their website and then purchased a towncar to pick us up at our Disney hotel to take us to the courthouse.

Once we arrived at the courthouse we were in and out within 10 minutes. The entire process, including driving to Kissimmee and returning to our hotel took less than 50 minutes.

PS: My event planner booked the towncar for us. We got our marriage license the day before our wedding.

And on that note...

Is the county name on the marriage license? We wanted to have 'Orange County' on ours, but if its not on there...we won't worry about driving the extra distance.

Do you only need your license? or do you need your SS card and a birth certificate too?

Want to know which courthouse is closest maybe some other questions will be answered :) :dance3:

We went to the courthouse in Orlando. We decided on that one because we were driving in and stopped before we got to Disney. It was really easy. It took about and hour. I had everything with me and all I had to show was my driver’s license. But I would bring the other stuff just incase. I gave it to my officiant on the day of the wedding and no lie I had my licenses with in a week. It came really fast to my house from the Orange County Court house.

It may be a silly question but do us brits have to register the marriage when we return to the UK, if so how?

We used a Mears towncar booked through Disney, and got our license at the Kissimmee courthouse. It took less than 15 minutes!! They were so nice, and it was so quick and painless! (Then, we stopped at Publix and got some wine, beer, and champagne! mmmm!!!)

This is really great to know! Can you please share how much it was for the Mears towncar?
