Thank you, Johanna!

Hi everyone. I am going to try on dresses for the first time next week. Does anyone have any tips on what and who to bring? What should I expect?
Carrie gave great advice, as always. I just wanted to add, if there is something you want to see INSIST they bring it to you! They may not want to show it too you because it dosen't cost enough for their comissions, etc., but it might be just perfect for you! Put on the haterblockers and don't let them get to you!

Only bring people you are close too. Wedding advisers always say not to bring any single females but my MOH is single and was always very supportive of my choices. I say bring people who will support your choices too![]()
Oh, and be honest about your budget, but don't let them pressure you about whether you should try on something that you like, regardless of whether they think it would look good on you. Quick story: At first DB only wanted me to try on gowns they had in my size (not many), saying I shouldn't try on something that they didn't have in my size because I wouldn't have any idea of whether it would look right "in a larger size". (I still think they might have wanted to sell me something off the floor, therefore the reason I could only try on gowns they had in my size). THEN, when I said budget was NOT an issue, they suddenly wanted to bring me the "designer gowns" even though they weren't anywhere near my size -- "Oh, you can hold it up against you and get an idea of what it would look like!"
I found a sample that I loved. I refused to buy it on the spot, which was good. Too much pressure! After we left, my mom decided to tell me she thought I need a different color for my skin tone. Good thing I didnt buy it and then she told me. I later found out they were trying to sell me a $900 dress for $1250 after sample discount. Gotta love bridal shops!!!
Ugggh that's why I hated DB sooo much, Cam!!
Amanda, sweetie, I KNOW you'll get a kick out of this. When I took Jenn shopping for her MoH gown, of course they wanted to sell me mine. I told them I'd already ordered one and Jenn said I should show the saleswoman the picture because Jenn was choosing a neckline to compliment my dress. The DB saleswoman said mine was "the most beautiful gown I've ever seen" but she'd bet it was SOOOO much more than anything DB sells and she never understood how a bride could spend so much on something they'd only wear once. I told her my husband said I should get whatever I wanted in my wildest dreams and there are plenty of other opportunities in life to save money but he wanted me to have my dream gown. So the saleswoman INSISTED on knowing how much my gown was and when I told her she said "Oh! We sell gowns here that are MUCH more expensive than that!" and I said "Wow, it must be so hard for you to show brides those gowns when you just don't believe brides should spend that much for one day."
Oh, boy, was she embarassed. I really didn't mean to embarass her, but she walked right into that. I thought it was mean of her to be criticizing anyone for being willing to buy what she was trying to sell. And there could have been brides in any of those dressing rooms around us whose feelings were hurt by her comments, making it seem like they were selfish for spending whatever she might deem "so much" on a gown. UGH! Jenn said she was probably just upset that she didn't get the commission on my gown.![]()
Even though my wedding is in May 2009, I already found the perfect dress!
