DH and I are going to our first Dapper Days in September! I've been looking at Pinterest and etsy and have seen many good ideas there. I'm also planning to check out a few local Goodwill stores. Any websites that specifically sell retro dresses or other apparel that isn't crazy expensive??? I'm hoping to keep it to $50 or less for a dress for me and another $50 or so for DH's look.

ModCloth has a bunch of vintage-inspired dresses that can fit your budget. I've personally never ordered from them (not my style), but I have a lot of friends who love their dresses.

I've bought 2 dresses from EShakti. For an extra $7.50, you an have your dress custom fit to your measurements. They're always having sales, so check their site often. Mod Cloth has some really cute dresses and I hear they have a great return policy. I bought 2 hats and and a dress from them and loved them all. The 2nd hand stores are a great option also. Watch out, once you start looking for Dapper attire, you can become seriously addicted! I've spent hours on those vintage sites. I know others can admit the same thing. LOL!

We've used:
Modcloth (especially the sale section)
Etsy (don't forget to look for shop coupons and discount codes)
Stop Staring (they also sell on Modcloth, so check both sites for the best prices)
Amazon
Ebay
Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic (check the sale section and use the coupon codes)

Retro and vintage looks are extremely hot right now so the prices are going up by the day. If it's an option check local Goodwill/Thrift/Consignment stores first.

As I am a plus size girl it can be really hard to find that stuff in the options near me so I definitely prefer Mod Cloth and Chic Star websites as my go to places.

Also shop earlier the better as Renaissance Fairs and the like go on more and more as the seasons warm up and similar items are sought after.

Hope this helps and I too am planning for Dapper day too with my DH :)

Eeek! I think you're right! I'm in love with all the pin up girl and swing dresses. It's too hard to decide which one to choose. I'm particularly loving the Maggie Tang brand dresses. Fun!!!

One of my friends makes all her Dapper Day clothing using vintage patterns. She is very clever!! I like Modcloth because if it doesn't fit, you can return it with free shipping. Eshakti was great the first time I ordered (got 3 dresses) but the second time, I found the quality to be a lot lower. It may have been that particular dress, but it made me hesitate since I heard a similar complaint from my pal disneyluvr2. Also, you have to pay return shipping if something doesn't fit so that's a consideration.

Some lesser known google searches that can net cool DD outfits: church suits & gothic lolita. I got this outfit:

from a gothic lolita shop on ebay. Got the blouse and dress, both new, for $25. The blouse has a plaid collar that matches the dress and a removable black velvet collar as well. You can't see it well, but the skirt has a cute Alice in Wonderland detail in white.
