On the DFTW website it says that you are provided with a personal website. I just wondered if this was still the case as I've not seen/heard anything about it. Alot of my guests are asking questions and want to see pictures, so do you think it would be worth using one of the wedding sites, e.g. weddingpath.com, to design my own for the guests to look at?

Thanks in advance

It has been 2 years since our wedding, so one of the other ladies can help clarify this, but our Disney wedding web site was basic and did not give us much of an opportunity to personalize it.

We used a Knot web site address for a site where we could add comments, photos, etc. I know that Disney is very protective of their copyrights and the copyrights of others as well as their commercial presence, and I think that has to do with why they do not allow open access to the websites they create which carry a Disney IP address.

Any more recent brides have a different experience? :flower3:

I use theknot.com and googlepages (which is so awesome by the way), but unfortunatley I believe they are not taking anymore members. I fyou already have a gmail.com account you maybe able to still create on, or you could try weddingchannel.com.

luandjustin, how did you get it so that you had your domain different then the username.wordpress.com? I assume you paid for it, but how much was it?

I buy all my domains through GoDaddy.com. I own about 25 domains, so it's easier for me to have them all in one place. I told you I'm a nerd. :3dglasses ) I paid about $10 for a year of owning luandjustin.com.

It's important to understand that running WordPress on your own domain and signing up for a free WordPress account are two different things. If you host WordPress on your own domain, you'll need to upload and configure WordPress on your server (which means that in addition to buying a domain name, you'll need to have a hosting plan with someone like Dreamhost.com or 1and1.com).

Installing WordPress is pretty easy, but if you want a free and easier solution, I suggest signing up for an account on WordPress.com instead. WordPress.com lets you choose from loads of customizable themes. Here's a little test blog I set up ages ago using a theme called Blix:

You can switch out the header image with your own photograph/image. It's really easy to do. :)

UPDATE I was looking through WordPress.com more, and I saw this page:

Be the master of your domain

Custom domainYour WordPress.com blog address is a sure sign of style, but what happens when you really get serious about controlling your online identity? It’s easy to add your own domain name, like example.com, to your existing WordPress.com blog. Or if you already have your own domain name, it’s easy to transfer it to your WordPress.com blog. Registering a domain name with us is only $15/year, and mapping an existing domain name is $10/year.

That's pretty sweet!

I agree that Disney's website is not customizable. Plus, they will post a link to your pictures, but only if you use a DFTW photographer. So, I would definitely suggest starting one of your own that you can totally customize to fit your needs. freewebs.com is a good free web hosting site and is very easy to use.

Just to echo what everyone else has posted, yes Disney does provide a website but does not give you the option of coding it or adding things to it.

We used a mac.com site (the software is super easy) and created all sorts of separate pages, like our restaurant or ride picks and picture pages. We have a link to "our official" disney site on our own page. But I would definitely create your own wedding site.

Edited to add: Caroline, I just PM'd you a link to the site created for us by Disney.
