Webkinz is really getting popular here with kids. Do you have one? Do you set rules or limits on it? Just wondering your thoughts. I heard it is really popular on the east coast and just getting here. Is that true? Please share. Thanks.:goodvibes :surfweb:

We are going to get one today. DD has been saving and the stores have been sold out. Hope I don't have to give up too much of my computer time...I'll go through DISboards withdrawl! LOL :goodvibes

My DD has four. Some were given as gifts, and some she bought with her own money. They were really "hot" down here around Christmas. I guess they are still popular, but my DD goes through "phases". Sometimes she will play for a couple of hours, but then it could be weeks before she does it again. They are cute, and I love the creative things that they can do with them. Last night she made a movie. It was really cute. They are coming out with new animals all the time, so I think they will be around for a while.

Webkinz are very popular! I noticed that they sell out quickly, so I just bought 2 for Easter baskets this morning when I saw them in stock at a local store. If you think you might buy one, don't hesitate too long as they do sell quickly.

(please don't tell me I'm the only one on my way to google webkinz :rolleyes1 )

My three each go tonr for Christmas from a friend. We haven't gone online and done anything yet. I told them we would do it sometime when we didn't have anything to do and they were bored. I guess they haven't been bored since Christmas.:confused3

They are super hot hot hot up here in Mass! All the stores have been sold out of them and once they get them in stock they FLY off the shelves! I saw them the other day in a Hallmark store when they had just become available and the kids were swarming!:goodvibes

Both of my younger sisters have them. It's a wonder I got on the computer before midnight.

Webkinz are great! Each of my girls have 1(my oldest has 2) Dh and I love playing the games, too. We usually let each girl have 20-30 minutes a day playing w/theirs. Our computer is in the kitchen so we set the timer on the stove. It works really well.

They are extremely popular here! DS has one, and I really like it. He's practicing his computer skills, and the the "chat" features are very safe - you choose from a list.

DD6 loves them! She has 10 at the moment and I have 3 more stashed away to give to her later. They are hard to find and a bit addicting. I think I like them as much as she does. I like the hunt of tracking down the one she wants. It reminds me of the Beanie Baby craze. The website is really fun. I've been known to play the games on it too.

They are very popular here, but I can't stand them. I don't like that they are linked to the internet and DD7 is constantly asking if she can get on the computer. She's 7! She doesn't need to be on the computer! I do not want her to get another one, but she wants to spend birthday money on one. I want to take the one that she does have and launch it into space.

I don't think that they are very cute, either (hers, anyway. It is a gray cat.)

I sure sound like a grump!

We just kind of "stumbled" onto them at our local Hallmark store before Christmas. DD5 is a HUGE stuffed animal fan and she fell in love with the pig. (We had just seen "Charlotte's Web" and she named him Wilbur.) And THEN I accidentally threw away the little tag with the code on it!!!!! Rummaged around in 3 bags of trash to pick it out! Luckily, it was found and not damaged! For Valentine's Day I got her the pink poodle. She loves playing with the animals, but we haven't gotten to do much online...we still have dialup here and everything takes forever to load. What kinds of stuff can you do on the website?

Anyway, they're really cute and IMO, definitely worth the $10.99.

We just got them so I am not too sure about them yet. I wish there was another way to do it rather than have the girls on the internet all the time but it looks like fun.

My two oldest DDs have them. The 9yo has 2 and the 6yo has 8. They use their allowance or receive them as gifts. I've read that they are hard to find, but the toy store near us always has a lot in stock. The girls go online and play with them that way too. They are addicted to webkinz! They've saved the websites into their computers favorites and set pictures of their favorite webkin as their wallpaper. They 9yo favors the tree frog while the 6yo loves the new love bear that came out this past valentines day.

My kids have become Webkinz addicts. They get 30min computer time during the week and 1 hr on the weekend. They lose time if they don't make their bed, put away clothes, etc. They can earn extra time if they do extra chores or help me with the little one when I'm getting dinner ready, on the phone, etc.

I was hesitant, but it is safe and fun. They can "talk" to their friends and invite them over, but the messaging is all drop down menus, so they can't make up a conversation. They can only "say" what is on the menu. Limits the pedophile aspect, too.
The games are fun. I play with them sometimes. They get points and buy stuff for their webkin. It kind of teaches them budgeting!! In a perverse sort of way!!!
I was skeptical, but now think it is harmless. Not educational, but a fun fad. Plus, the webkinz are wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper than American Girl dolls, so it works out better for me, too!!!

We are addicts here. DS10 and DD3 have 2 and DD8 and DS5 have 3. DS5 has become an expert checkers player. He plays with my nephew that lives an hour away before school most days.

I must say that I do "help" them earn money during the day. :rotfl2:

I'm actually spending less time on the dis and more time on Webkinz playing Cash Cow and Tile Towers! Both my dd's have one, so I have to log in as one kid, play games for a while, then log in as the other kid and play some more so I don't earn more W$ for one than the other! They haven't spent much of the $ in a while, so I've got them both over $3500 now! They each have several rooms in their house now and lots of furnishings. We don't limit computer time much, as long as homework and chores are done, which includes at least 30 minutes reading a book of their choice, then they can watch tv or play computer til bedtime. It's just too boring around here in the winter!
