Anyone else bummed about the weather at WDW over the next week? Looks like lots of rain and they are even talking about a possible tropical cyclone sometime toward end of week. We drive down Saturday and I can see us just heading into a hurricane. We've planned for this trip for a year now and it looks like we may get bad weather again (we were there last May during the non-hurricane). So disappointing. JimMIA - what are your thoughts on this new thing that might develop in Caribbean?

We leave this Friday. Weather doesn't look that bad. Lots of isolated storms. Hoping for the the best!:goodvibes We're running Saturday night in the 1/2, so really hoping no rain that evening. Still time for the weather to change. Hopefully the hurricane will not be an issue.

We've been to WDW during lots of bad weather, including a hurricane. Grab a poncho and head out to the parks...you will find they're practically empty, as anyone who lives within a few hours drive, won't come and it will just be people like yourself who had no choice but to continue on with their vacation. Bring some shoes that you don't mind getting wet and have fun - really there's no point getting bummed out about it, cause there's nothing you can do...have fun:)

This is good advice. ::yes::

I figure that as DVC owners we will visit WDW fairly often. And given that it's Florida there will be some bad weather on some of our trips. The good news is we know that none of our trips are "once in a lifetime" trips as they are for so many.

Besides, you're looking at a long range forecast. You never know how much it might change.

Enjoy the trip! :)

Yea, we've done the rain thing many times. Usually it doesn't bother me, but this trip is kind of special and I am really looking forward to F&W. Well maybe we will luck out this trip.

You also can't believe everything you hear from our weathermen! We were supposed to have 5 days of rain starting Friday! Well I spent the week-end in Lakeland, a sunny/partly cloudy week-end in Lakeland and it's sprinkled lightly only once.

Don't despair, have a positive outlook, right now no hurricane, little to no rain!
It's still so darned hot that even if you get a few scattered showers they dry up in no time!

I've always been under the impression when weather.com says 30%, 40%, 50% chance of rain that it typically means on and off rain throughout the day or maybe a passer by shower or thunderstorm. I never really take it to mean all day rain.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Just my two cents.

I honestly am so happy to be going to WDW that I will be happy just being there. I'm dealing with health issues that don't let up.

Great post!
We leave in 12 days - EEK! - and are, of course, hoping for nice weather. But less crowding isn't too bad of a trade off.

And I don't know about elsewhere in the country, but here in Minnesota, the forecasts this entire month have been terrible! There was a 2 week stretch where I think it rained every day, even though all the weather forecasts just said cloudy.

We were at Disney this past week. The forecast for Thursday was 30% rain, Friday was 50% rain, and Saturday was 60% rain. We had a couple of little sprinkles - the forecast was wrong. Don't despair yet!

We fly down Saturday and I'm just praying nothing comes of the possible hurricane. It doesn't sound as if it is terribly likely at this point and who knows where it will go if it does form. I've been waiting for this vacation for a L-O-N-G time, though, and don't want to see it impacted in a large way. Rain itself is fine to cool the day down but high winds and rain - that's another story. I lived in Florida a few years back when the hurricanes were plentiful and can't tell you how amny trips they have affected.

JimMIA - what are your thoughts on this new thing that might develop in Caribbean?
This one (and it may be more than one) is very difficult to figure out.

According to Dr. Jeff Masters on Weather Underground, the system will muddle around where it is for a day or two and then slide out to the North or Northeast, passing over Florida late this week, and into the Carolinas by the weekend. IF that theory holds true, I don't see there being much time for the system to develop into much. Tropical storm, maybe -- but I'm more inclined to think Tropical Depression. Windy, rainy all day long -- crummy days, but no real threat.

The question that concerns me more is, what next? Back when Hurricane Karl was approaching Central America, some of the models suggested it would split into two systems with one (Karl) continuing to move westward and the other wallowing around in the Western Caribbean and spawning several storms. Although that seemed unlikely at the time, that is exactly what has happened to some degree. It remains to be seen whether the whole thing moves out to the NE or whether it sits there spinning off storms for a couple of weeks.

For your vacation, though, I think you are going to catch a window that will be either right after this thing passes through...or in between this one and the next.

As always, my advice is to turn the TV OFF and check the National Hurricane Center (www.nhc.noaa.gov ) and Weather Underground (www.wunderground.com/tropical ) daily.

A rainy day at Disney is ALWAYS better than a sunny day at home!!!
We leave in 17 days and CAN'T WAIT!!

We fly down on Saturday also from Chicago for our first stay as DVC members at BLT. Where you staying? We're staying until Thursday.....and we're in the same boat, keeping our fingers crossed the weather doesnt effect MNSSHP on Sunday or our park visits!

Hm, I wonder if there are more DVC'rs willing to do the last minute cancellation bit when the weather outlook looks bad. No one like holding, but if the alternative is a bout of poor weather while dealing with health issues they might decide holding isn't so bad.

Chin up Wolfie, I'm 99.4567% sure your trip will be a good one. I'm envious! Take pics of all that great food! :goodvibes

I hope you end up with decent weather, WolfpackFan. We went to WDW in May 2009 as well, however we went the week after the non-hurricane dumped massive amounts of rain on Florida. We felt so lucky to have missed the rain by a week. Obviously we would have made the most of our trip rain or shine, but that much rain would have made the trip less enjoyable.

I admit to being a bit nervous--we leave a week from Wed. We went a few years back and stayed at OKW. A hurricane was coming towards the latter part of our stay, and luckily it turned out to be just a tropical storm which was constant rain, drizzle, clouds, gloomy, etc., but no high winds or anything horrific. We kept our chins up and tried to do the pancho thing but I admit that got old after 2 or 3 days. This tropical storm would just not move on...it decided to circle and circle and circle over us for what seemed like days on end. I swore I would never go again during hurricane season, but here we are again.

I am trying to think of different things to do, i.e. DisneyQuest, maybe even Cirque just in case. I was really hoping to get to water parks given that DS is old enough now...we'll see!

What makes me nervous too is the weatherman did a thing about hurricanes the other day and mentioned how none have really hit shore, but that was expected to change for late Sept and early Oct....ugh!!!

This morning, NHC has raised the probability of this system developing into a tropical storm or depression to 80%. The sustained winds are almost at tropical storm force, so if it develops the necessary closed circulation, it will likely become a tropical storm today.

Because this is a large and fairly disorganized system, it is hard to tell where the center is and even harder to accurately predict its movement. To me, the satellite loop looks like there is a center of circulation just south of Cuba's Isle of Youth, moving rather rapidly ENE. The computer models show that movement shifting more to the north and the system (whatever it becomes) passing over the Upper Keys and Miami. That will take the system over the middle of Cuba and some parts of the storm will interact with the high mountains of Cuba, hindering development to some degree.

We'll have to wait for more development before we can have much confidence in the predictions, but it looks to me like a messy Thursday-Friday.

We fly down on Saturday too!! Keeping my fingers crossed for Sun at MNSSHP.
