Weather and Fireworks

What type of weather would cancel fireworks? Will they make a last minute decision? We are headed out next Sunday 2/15. They are doing fireworks 2/25 and 2/16, on weather.com 2/15 is showing possible rain. I am assuming rain will cancel, but what if it stops in the afternoon, will they still do them, or make the call in the morning?

Thanks!

I've never been there during the rain with fireworks so I don't know if rain will necessarily cancel them. What usually cancels them is "adverse wind conditions" And it can happen even when it's not windy on the ground. We were there several times in Sept. and the fireworks were cancelled a few nights.

And yes, they make the decision last minute. One time we stood in the middle of Main St. waiting for them to make the decision. They announced about 15-20 min. after they were scheduled to start that they would not be going. :sad2: Also, if the wind conditions change during the show, they will stop them. This also happened to us last year.

At this point I wouldn't worry about the rain on the 15th. Our weather forecasts seem to change almost hourly. :rotfl2:

What kind of clothes should I pack. We will be here this weekend...Sat-Tues. Is it hot, cold, what right now? I live in WA and right now we have been having 40's and 50's.

Thanks DisneyDaz!

I live in Seattle, our weather changes by the minute!

I got a great deal on ponchos for $1 at Target, so bringing those with us, just in case, but weather.com is looking good so far! It is showing even 69 one day!! I hope that doesn't change!

Right now it's cold and rainy. Alot like you're used to! :rotfl2: But seriously-in the last few hours we've been having small hail storms. It'll hail for about a minute and then stop. Then the sun will come through, then more hail. We're about 1/2 hr. east of DLR. The local weather report I saw this a.m. for the week showed rain on Sat., but that can change.

I would think warm clothes, layers. Ponchos are great! maybe even an umbrella. Like Seattle, but unlike WDW, the rain here is cold. We went to lunch about 3 hours ago. It hailed and poured while we were eating and when we drove back home, it was down to 41 degrees-now that's cold for us! Anaheim probably was a little warmer than here. I just checked Weather on Demand and it's 54 in Anaheim (feels like 49) partly sunny. It'll drop down to 45 tonight. Sat. will be 59, chance of rain. Gotta go, baby needs feeding

Hi, I live about 15 minutes south of DLR.

The weather here right now is pretty cold, rainy and windy.

We were at DLR this past weekend and got rained on pretty badly, even though we made the decision to go based on the weather forecast which showed a 5% chance of precipitation for the rest of the day (Sunday). We were prepared with umbrellas and rain covers for the strollers, but it was miserable, so we left after an hour.

Moral of my story: don't trust the weather forecast. Living so close to the ocean, the weather often has a mind of its own and it's usually EXTREMELY difficult for them to predict, even a few hours ahead, what it will be like.

Come prepared for:

-chilly mornings and evenings (in the upper 40's-mid 50's)
-possible rain, at least on Saturday, and likely Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday
-average daytime temps around 60-65.
-wind...COLD wind

I highly advise HOODED jackets, sweatshirts, etc. When it gets windy here, it feels much colder than it is, and evenings tend to get windy, especially if there is any sort of storm front.

Fireworks will be cancelled if you can look up in the sky and visibly see the clouds moving through the sky. If the clouds are moving by quickly enough for you to discern, it's too windy for fireworks (generally). The reason for this is that Anaheim has a LOT of houses/buildings within close proximity to the park, and the wind could cause the embers from the fireworks to blow over to those structures, creating a fire hazard. If the winds exceed 15mph at the firework level, they will be cancelled. So, it happens very often.

Also of note, Fantasmic WILL be cancelled due to rain, as the rain causes the stage to be dangerously slippery for the performers.

As stated by brergnat, wind is the main concern as to if the fireworks show will go or not, due to safety. There have been nights that we have been at DL when it has been extremely cloudy, without wind, and the fireworks show goes. It was more of a "changing colored sky" show than a fireworks show, but it still took place.

Contrary to what brergnat said, however, Fantasmic! is not always canceled due to rain. As it was explained to me once, it comes down to:
1 - The safety of the performers (slipping, etc....)
2 - The safety of guests (if lightning is an issue)

That said, I was at Disneyland last night meeting up with a friend. People were gathered around the riverfront for the 10:30pm show. At about 10:15pm it started to sprinkle. They announced the show may not be seen due to inclimate weather. About 5 minutes later the sprinkles stopped. At 10:30pm the show started right on time. About 3 minutes into the show it started to pour! Many guests got up and ran for cover. Others opened umbrellas (like us!). We were sure the show would stop mid-way through. It did not. They kept it going to the very end. If you have seen Fan! enough to be familiar with it, you could tell there were a few alterations in what the performers did that were clearly for safety reasons, but the show went to the very end.... in the pouring rain. We were surprised, but clearly, whoever makes the judgment call, decide to let the show go on last night.
