What about an 8 year old wearing a nice skort to dinner? Ladies? Of course on casual nite! Thanks!!

That sounds fine. As long as you avoid jeans and shorts - just about anything goes!

Skorts are the perfect combination of cute and comfort for girls. I think they would be perfect for casual dinners. I love the fact that I don't have to constantly remind my girls to watch how they sit w/ skirts on when they wear skorts!!

I feel stupid for asking this. At first I thought it was a typo, but since the term was repeated in its "misspelled" form, I realize it wasn't a typo.

What's a skort?

A skort looks like a skirt but has shorts essentially built into them. Picture shorts with another piece of fabric draped across the front and back so that it looks like a skirt. Cute and comfortable.

Do you think I could get away with it? Have a couple of resort looking outfits that are skorts!

Like a culotte? (sp?)

Yes, culotte was the original name back in the 60's, just like peddle pushers are now know as capris. Kathy

Heck, I'd wear a skort to dinner as long as it wasn't at Lumieres! I think an 8 year old doing it is just fine (even at Lumieres for them! :) )

Sadly, that doesn't really even represent half of my Tigger collection. I am a bit obsessed! :)

Thanks for the compliment. Katie hated the Tigger costume and will probably wish bad things on her Mommy when I drag that photo out to show everyone when she is a teenager. :)

Thanks! Hehehehe! I've actually had a few people that we've sent it to say "Where is Katie?" at first glance. We call it our very own little "Where's Waldo" game. :)

A culotte is different from a skort. Culottes are a divided skirt -- no flap in front or behind. A skort usually has at least one flap, normally in the front, and sometimes has one in the back too!

Peddle pushers come right below the knee, as opposed to capris, which end somewhere between the knee and the ankle. I think peddle pushers are close to what we also would call "clam diggers." Remember those?:D

P.S. Katie is so adorable! That picture reminds me of ET in with all the stuffed animals in the movie!

And I think that culottes were generally at least knee-length, and fairly full (wide-legged) thru the entire length.
Skorts, at least the ones Ive seen, are generally above the knee (sometimes considerably so) and somewhat closer fitting.

Well, I grew up in the 60's and early 70's. Culotte's came in all lengths, including "mini's"(which mine was). Some had flaps in the front and back some front only, and some didn't even bother having a flap. They were banned from schools because they were considered pants, regardless of the flap! Yes, a split skirt was pants, be glad you didn't attend pubic school back then. By the time I graduated in '75 dress codes were gone, thankfully.

The peddle pushers my mother insisted I wear hit me right on the middle of my calf. Not at all appealing to the eye or comfortable. If you were tall, yes they would hit you right below the knew. If you were short it was right above the ankle, like my poor friend had happened, didn't look good at all. She felt like a stump. At age 45 I still refuse to buy or wear capri's. It is amazing how fashion can affect a person.

I say wear the skort if you want to dinner. The ones I bought my daughter look like an A-line skirt because the front flap is attached on both sides and is a bit longer than shorts and has a slight flare. I bought it at Land's End last year. I did buy her Capri's at her request. She is so tall that even her regular pants look like capri's in the making. She is 5'3" and only 10 yrs old. Very hard to fit. Kathy

I think a skort is perfectly acceptable to wear at dinner (with exception to semi-formal and formal meals). In fact, I saw some children wearing lovely short sets and despite the request not to wear shorts, I wouldn't hesitate to bring my daughter to dinner wearing a cute short set. I can't remember really, but I bet I did. I know my son wore shorts to dinner (khaki and the like). I brought WAY too many clothing pieces for my children, so it's hard to remember what they did and didn't wear. I think my daughter wore capris a lot in the evening (she is 3).

TECDAVIDT - I also grew up in the 60's and early 70's. Boy, I DO remember those dress codes (I even went to Catholic school, where you even had to worry about the length of your uniform)!

I almost wish they had an enforced dress code nowadays. They DO have a dress code, but I'm not so sure it's very much enforced...

What's funny about capris being popular now, is that my DD is only 5' tall and she buys capris to wear as long pants! They fit perfectly and no hemming! Trouble is, she can't wear capris, because they're all long pants on her!!!:D
