wearing hats at dinner

Ok, I know I caused a stir with my verbiage about flip flops in the dining room so I won't do it again, and I respect that everyone has an opinion, so please feel free to dress as you like whenver you like to do so.

But, I don't understand why anyone else would care if someone in a restaurant was wearing a hat. I personally don't wear hats in doors but I also don't care what you are wearing.

I am seriously considering wearing flip flops and hats and having dinner with all of you just so you can see that I am great company and a wonderful conversationalist. You would have a great time, and my hat and feet would be nothing other than a fun conversation starter.

Heck .. When I'm shopping at the store over on the Marine base near my home they make me take off my hat. So, I figure there isn't anyway I should be wearing that at a dinner table. That's them Marines for you though.

:D

My father always takes his hat off at the table for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the cruise specifically he did take it off in topsiders and all restaurants. And he wears a ball cap or straw hat every day.

Does anyone remember the Soprano's episode when Tony was getting more and more agitated because some guy would not take his baseball cap off in the restaurant.......it is just something that should not be done...where the etiquette started is beyond me but I think it shows a sign of respect to take your hat off at the table.

It does show a sign of respect not to wear a hat at the table. Our values and manners are going down hill fast. After Ronald Reagan died they showed people on the news filing by his casket to pay their respects. I thought it was awful how a lot of people were wearing cut off jeans, t-shirts and hats while doing this. How is that showing respect? We are turning into a nation of slobs.

... stepping off my soapbox ...

If you insist on wearing a cap to dinner, please turn the bill around to cover the red neck.

Seriously, what bothers me more than a cap at dinner is someone who blows their nose while other are trying to eat/digest the meal! That to me is the upper most extreme of rudeness ... well, I can think of one more but have never experienced that one!

I agree with you on that Mr. Bill. My conservative DB, who just got his master's degree in business, blows his nose at the dinner table and it totally disgusts me.:crazy2: He has allergies so you can expect him to do it at every family dinner at least once.

Grandma still makes poor alheizer ridden grandpa take his hat off at the dinner table! She has to remind him every time but none the less no hats at the table.

The whole blowing the nose thing is another gross thing that just makes me sick to my stomack when we are out at resurants. Glad to see it is not just my pet peev.

Me too.... No hats. I wear them, but not at the table.
