wearing glasses on Space Mountain?

Dh, dd and I all wear glasses. We get to WDW, and put those glasses strings on them as soon as we check in. I like my glasses to be on the loose side, as does dd. This way we don't have to worry about them. I've even worn mine at TL on some of the slides.

I'm glad to see so many people wear there glasses on all the rides and have no issues. My regular glasses are rather loose on my face and falling into that same category as many of you, I am blind without them. Seeing as how my lenses alone rather expensive, I generally take them off as a precaution...because I do not want to be spending any of my disney time or money at the optometrist, lol.

However, I will wear my rx sunglasses on most rides because they fit tighter to my face and the bulkier frames allows for a less expensive (read not as thin) lense so I don't have as much money in them.

Next trip however, I think I might try a string/strap so I can get the full non-blurry SM effect.

i've always been paranoid about losing my glasses on rides. i never wanted to take the chance so i always took them off and went blind... but i got laser eye surgery this january and i'm LOVING the perfect vision. can't wait till next trip so i can thoroughly enjoy all the rollar coasters!

The first time I ever went on Space Mountain I wore my glasses (and didn't lose them). However, I can be a bit obsessive - about half way thru the ride I started worrying about them - "If my glasses fall off, they will land on the track below us, we will derail and die!" And once I start down that train of thought, there is no coming back. Soooooo - Carl and I both zip our glasses up in the camera bag. Whew! No death by glasses derailment this time! :yay:

Hmmmm. You are making me consider letting DS wear his glasses this year. Normally I take them off and put them away for all thrill rides. Of course he wears bifocals (he is only 9 but is farsighted and has turning issues) and they would cost a mint to replace on the road!

Thanks to all of you for your responses! I think I will buy one of those glasses straps to wear, that way I won't have that anxiety about losing them. :goodvibes

OP, I am also blind as a bat, so I know the feeling. I wear contacts most of the time, but if you will be wearing glasses when you are at MK, I would suggest taking them off when you ride SM. First of all, it's really dark anyway. More importantly though, if you do wear your glasses and lose them, and you are as blind as me, you can't just run to Lens Crafters (or any eyeglass store) and order glasses in an hour... my glasses are special order and take a couple of days because they have to shave them down so they fit into the frames and don't look like Coke bottles! And I know you wouldn't want to be without glasses in WDW for that long! If you really want to keep your glasses on, you should look into a strap that goes around your neck (as other posters have mentioned) or actually hold onto them with one hand (or two!) while you ride SM. Have fun!

after countless trips I have never lost my glasses anywhere in WDW. as long as they fit decently and don't fall off your face in "normal" life you should be fine. One reccomendation, the first time I had glasses in WDW years ago I held onto the frame while riding some rides - DON'T do this. I bent the heck out of my frames and while I could still see through the trip I still had to get new ones once I got home.

This is probably a silly question, but....has anyone had any trouble wearing glasses on Space Mountain? I am blind as a bat without them so I really dont want to take them off but am worried about losing them. I read somewhere that they have even found false teeth at the bottom ?!

I wear glasses, same as you virtually blind without, and wear them strapless on all the WDW rides. SM, TZTOT, BTMRR, MS, ARNRC, KRR, Dinosaur, etc. without problems. About the only attraction on which I have to remove my specs is Summit Plummit at BB; definitely do not want to have glasses on this one!

DBF almost lost his (he caught them out of mid-air) on RnRC but did not have a problem on Space
