We Went to See Mic-key M-o-u-s-e ... Again! - Sept '12 TR [COMPLETE]

Oh no!!!!! That is terrible!!! I hope that the pain meds make things better and you can still enjoy your trip. My DH is a sleep walker, but thankfully he hasn't hurt himself (yet). He tends to sleep walk when he's stressed too....he has discovered Melatonin which helps him sleep and it stops the sleep walking. It's so scary when he wakes up in the middle of the night...I'm a very light sleeper.

Bearcat, I thought you said you had ADRs at the Biergarten, that should make EVERYTHING better.:goodvibes

It was my pleasure looking after you last night, I was fun speaking with your husband, it was nice to see him excited about going to Disney, I have often heard from other nurses in the department speaking about how dis-intrested their husbands are about going to Disney. One nurse I work with even said her husband was worried about how bored he is going to be, and "what in the world is he going to do at Disney". Really?, bored at Disney, that is your own fault.

I'm wondering though, My best friends are going to be there the same week, September 15th, and now you and your husband, one of the Doctors I work with are also going to be there........could we have picked the worst week to go to Disney? so far everyone I know is going to be there. Maybe we should check a crowd prediction site.:crowded:

Why is it that something always goes wrong before we go on vacation? :sad2: Last year, our water heater went out two days before we left. This year, well ...

I was watching my beloved Bearcats win their season opener last night - DH had gone to bed already. I decided to stay up a while and read after the game was over and ended up falling asleep on the couch. Next thing you know, I'm waking up in pain on the floor next to the couch. My right foot was hurting so badly and somehow I had managed to crack my big toenail. :scared: I have a tendency to sleepwalk when under stress, and goodness knows I've been under tons of it lately trying to get everything together for the trip. All I can figure is maybe I fell over the luggage in the livingroom or something while I was up wandering around asleep. :confused3

I yelled into the bedroom to wake DH (which took considerable effort since he sleeps with the c-pap). He tried to get me to go to the ER right away, but of course I wanted to tough it out. Once I tried to get up and walk to the bathroom, though, I knew I had to go.

Luckily, we have a hospital center very close - it's about a 10 minute drive. At 4 a.m. the waiting room was empty and I got right in. I got wheeled back to the exam area and a nurse came in to input my info into the computer. I was talking about the fact that we're going to Disney next week, how am I gonna walk like this, etc. ... and this launched into a full-blown discussion on all things WDW. One point of conversation led to another and finally he looked at me and asked if I was on the DIS!

No, I'm not kidding! A fellow DISer, Scuba, was working in the ER! Of all the places to have my first meet-up, right?!? And know what else? He and his family are going to Disney THE SAME WEEK ... and they're doing MNSSHP the SAME DAY we are! :woohoo:

Between talking with the doctor and going for x-rays, we chatted about past visits and our upcoming trip plans, ADRs, etc. It definitely made a most unpleasant experience a whole lot easier. ::yes:: He and the other hospital staff took great care of me, and I got a sexy new shoe for Disney out of the deal:

b7ca3611.jpg

Ain't it pretty? :teeth: C'mon, you know you're jealous! ;)

Turns out, I sprained my right foot. :crazy2: I got a prescription for some pain meds and some stronger Vitamin I with the instructions to rest, ice, and elevate. It hurts like Hades today and I'm super nauseated. :faint: DH is picking up the prescriptions after work, along with some crutches at my request. I'm hoping it feels better enough that I can avoid using an ECV. I'll do what I have to do when we get there, but I really would prefer to walk if at all possible.

So now to go along with the old injury of my knee, I'm laid up with the foot ... and this is the week I have the most to do! Of course! ARGHHH! :crazy2:

Big shout out of thanks to you, Scuba, for everything! It was great talking with you, and hope we can work it out to meet up again (under much more pleasant circumstances) at MNSSHP! :wave2:

7 days until vacation, 9 days until WDW! :crutches:

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!:faint: I am so sorry to hear you hurt yourself, especially right before a trip:crazy2:. I am sending some pixie dust your way in hopes of you being able to navigate without an ECVpixiedust: On the bright side, the parks shouldn't be crowded and you'll run less people over:scared:. Seriously, I can't imagine trying to work one of those things in a crowded theme park if you don't have experience.:flower3:

But, how cool is THAT that you met another Dis'er AND they are going to Disney the same week, what are the chances of that happening:cool1:

Well, at least now you have the pain meds in case you need them on your trip. Nothing like being in the happiest place on earth while in pain and discomfort. Some pain med and that Biergarten res, you will really be in the happiest place on earth.

Well, enough doom and gloom, you are just a week away:cheer2::cheer2: That is so awesome and exciting:goodvibes. Cut yourself some slack and lay around for a couple of days, I'm sure you've got this packing thing under control:thumbsup2 and I'll bet your DH will lend a hand

My DH sleeps like the dead - I'm surprised he even heard me calling out to him last night. :crazy2: Sometimes he will get up in the morning and find me sleeping on the couch or livingroom chair. He'll be like, "When did you come out here?" Ummm, I dunno. :confused3

Oh yeah, Biergarten on Friday night!! Good way to end the trip, I figure. :teeth: Maybe I'll even treat myself and have a beer or a glass of wine. :drinking1

Seriously, bored? How does one get bored with so much to do? Beside the actual parks, there are so many other things. I can't even imagine how anyone could be bored there.

I checked EasyWDW a couple of weeks ago - I think the parks are mostly at 1's and 2's for the entire week, so hopefully we'll be okay! ::yes::

Oh no! You gotta stay off of it. Is that a walking cast? I fractured my foot our 1st family trip to WDW and I had a walking cast. It was so hot but it worked really well. I hope you feel better.:flower3:

Yay on the single digit dance!:cool1: I can do mine tomorrow. Have sooo much to do!

Just got the Mickey Halloween light up bag today and it doesn't work. They are sending me another one, hope we get it before we leave.

Ouch on the sprained foot!! I definitely feel for you!! I'm hoping that you can walk with it, but don't overdo it! Chances are you might need an ECV. Either way, at least you are going to Disney!!

Yay on meeting someone from here!! I'm always mentioning the boards and have yet to meet someone. LOL! I guess not many people from Alabama like Disney. LOL!!

Yay on the meet! You should treat yourself to a glass of beer!!

Thanks for the pixie dust - I'll take all I can get at this point. :teeth: I am scared of having to navigate with the ECV - never used one ever - but I'm just hoping I don't need to use it at all. I'm going to think positive! :thumbsup2

I couldn't believe it when the DIS came up in conversation. I was thinking to myself, seriously?!? It was great, though! It really is "A Small World, Afterall!" (Corny, I know, couldn't help myself! :p )

DH has already offered to do laundry. I figure this is the perfect opportunity to teach him to cook, also! :teeth:

Thank you for the flower and well wishes. I'll dance a little early for your single-digit celebration day tomorrow! :dance3:

Sorry to hear about your treat bag. Hope they get the new one to you in time! :goodvibes

Know what? I knew, of all people, you would get where that post was coming from! I said to DH last night, "Well, now CatNip and I REALLY have a lot in common!!" :lmao:

I've often wondered what it would be like to meet someone from here, and I now I know. It wasn't under ideal circumstances, but fun nonetheless. :thumbsup2

And though I'm normally not a drinker (I think I have a 6-pack in there still from the Super Bowl :crazy2: ), I definitely think I'll partake in a glass. ;) DH plans to! Can't "go to Germany" without having a little something to celebrate, right? :teeth:

I totally understand where you are coming from!! You wanna hear something funny? I've been practicing with using the ECV's at Target. Which was kind of weird at first. the first time I used it I was embarrassed. DH is a manager at the store so I pretty much know everyone and everyone knows me. LOL!! So, I went to go put it back where it belongs and these carts don't stop on a dime. LOL! Lets just say that I thank heavens that it was not a brick wall. LOL! Go ahead and use one of the carts at the grocery store. they go a bit slower than the ones that you rent, but they are harder to maneuver than the ones that you rent from offsite. Which is why practicing with one of them is a good thing. LOL!

I don't drink either. I think in the last year I've had maybe two or three drinks. Because I always fall asleep afterwards. LOL! Definitely can't handle my liquor. Although I'm going to try when we go on vacation!! LOL! We shall see how that works out. LOL!!

I definitely think that using one is a good idea. Yeah, it might be a pain and take a little getting used to, but at least you will still be able to enjoy yourself. And you don't have to use it all the time. You can park it and walk. I do that sometimes. They are easy to get off and on the buses. The drivers will help you maneuver. I used one 5 years ago, for another sprained ankle. See a pattern here? I sprained my left ankle 9 days before our last vacation. So, you aren't the only one that has bad luck right before. LOL!!

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry about your foot! Hope you can try to stay off it for most of the week so you can rest it and feel much better for next week.

One of my coworkers was due to go to Disney in April, and the week before her mom shattered her foot and they had to cancel. They reschedule for this week, and about a month ago her husband broke his hip so they had to cancel again!! At least you are fortunate in that regard, if you can look at it as a positive.

Sending lots of healing pixie dust your way! pixiedust:

I just caught up reading. I hope your foot is feeling better I can't believe this happen so close to your trip . That is crazy that you meet a Diser in the ER! YAY your trip is getting so close :goodvibes.

Oh no!! Sorry about your foot - ouch!! At least your sense of humor is still intact. I hope it feels much better before your trip! That is so weird about meeting a fellow Diser in the ER - we are everywhere!

Okay, so I took your advice today and tried out an ECV at Target. Those suckers are hard to maneuver! And some of the stares I got were positively hateful. :scared: Oh well, what can you do, right? I had to get out of the house. It's such a beautiful day here. I only spent about a half hour in Target and then we came home. :crazy2:

That's horrible for your coworker. I'll send some pixiedust THEIR way - sounds like they need it way more than I do! pixiedust:

How is your foot feeling this morning?

Yeah, the stares are what upset me most. It's like, sure I want to have to use this thing. go right ahead and stare. LOL!

I was waiting for my prescription the other night and this woman was standing off to the side. Well, she was talking to someone else. I know that she saw me. She kept hitting the front of the cart with hers. I finally got annoyed enough and gave her a look and said, "Excuse me. I'm sitting here." Which she pretended not to see or hear me. Well, I finally had enough when she did it for like the 10th time. So, I pushed the forward button and pushed her cart out of the way. She gave me a dirty look and I gave her one right back. She didn't say anything else, but she did stop hitting the cart. LOL!! Yeah, it was petty, but I tried being nice and she ignored me. LOL!!

I've never had any issues using a ECV at Disney. I think it's because they are more common there than at home. :confused3

They are difficult to use, but the ones at the parks are a bit easier. That's why I recommend using the ones at Target.

People can be so rude! Sometimes I just don't get it. It's like, is my being in an ECV hurting YOU in any way? No? Then MYOB! :rolleyes2

I think most people see it as the fact that we look like we are able bodied. Never mind the fact that there are tons of hidden things that people can't see. Not to mention that I'm wearing a damn ace bandage on my foot an ankle. Heaven forbid. LOL!!

I had to laugh last night though. I was going to put the ECV back and this elderly man was going to get a cart and told me that he'd race me!! I laughed and he said that he was serious. He said that he knew he could win cause those things are slow. :rotfl: I couldn't stop laughing at that one!!

Well, here I am, less than a week out and accomplishing absolutely nothing. :crazy2:

Other than a 10 minute trip to Walgreens last night for pads for the crutches and my short jaunt to Target, I've been on the couch or in bed with my foot propped up on a bunch of pillows. I have to admit, it was nice getting to watch college football allll day yesterday without feeling guilty. :teeth:

I still have some pain my foot when I walk or move it around, mostly in the top, arch, ankle areas. I was having some heel pain last night, too, and some slight pains going from my ankle bone up into my lower leg. There is some loss of range of motion in it, also. We removed the ACE bandage last night to get a look-see and to let my skin get some air. My ankle is puffy and bruised, and it looks like other areas may bruise, too. :crazy2: Yay. Not to mention the boot/shoe thingy makes me lurch around like Quasimodo when I'm not using the crutches. Oh yeah, I'm stylin'! :thumbsup2

I guess if this doesn't feel a whole lot better in a few days I'll be calling my regular doctor. I just don't see being able to do all the walking Disney requires like this. I know, I know, I can hear what you're thinking - I'm still a week out. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing - I tend to do that - and in a few days I'll be better. That being said, we walked an average of 8-10 miles a day at Disney last year. If I walk from the couch to the bathroom a couple times without crutches, my foot starts to hurt, and I just don't see myself being anywhere near ready to do 8 miles a day in a week. I'm not doing Disney on crutches - I can't even imagine it. We're taking a 5-HOUR WALKING TOUR for goodness sakes. :worried: :faint:

Anyhoo ... :rolleyes1

I'm going to go over the packing list with DH today and have him round up everything that's still in the basement. I need to work on our window signs - that I can do from right here on the couch. Other than that, I guess I'll just lay around and wait for Saturday to get here. This definitely isn't the way I planned to spend the week before, though, that's for sure. I feel like there's soooo much to be done, the house is a wreck, we need groceries, there's laundry to do, and so on, and so on, and so on .................

5 days until vacation, 7 days until WDW! :bored:

 I cannot BELIEVE you sprained your foot!! If you pop over to my PTR you'll see why I haven't really been posting a whole lot lately!!! Long story short, not only have I been working 10 and 12 hour days at work, my back has been KILLING me so bad, I ended up in the ER also!!! I might be on an ECV too!!! What are the chances?!!! :rotfl:

Maybe we can race?!!!:moped:

I hope your foot is feeling better soon. At least once you get to the rides you're golden, I'm worried I won't be able to ride some of the rides without them bothering my back!! :( We'll see how this week goes...

I was watching my beloved Bearcats win their season opener last night - DH had gone to bed already.

I wonder what it says about the sports fans I know IRL that I read this with the picture of your foot and ankle on my screen and thought, "Oh, no! Too early in the season to be celebrating enough you'd hurt yourself, so it must be her team lost and she kicked something." :scratchin

I'm so sorry about your ankle! :(

Okay, getting hurt is a bummer, but OTOH, you're going to be able to tell this tale for years to come. ;)

One nurse I work with even said her husband was worried about how bored he is going to be, and "what in the world is he going to do at Disney". Really?, bored at Disney, that is your own fault.

A lot of people think WDW is an amusement park with wimp rides, so if they're not into wimp rides, they're going to be bored. :rolleyes2

.could we have picked the worst week to go to Disney? so far everyone I know is going to be there. Maybe we should check a crowd prediction site.:crowded:

Nah. You just know a lot of smart people who know how to avoid the corwds! :snooty:

I know, I know, I can hear what you're thinking - I'm still a week out. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing - I tend to do that - and in a few days I'll be better.

I'm thinking it's a legitimate concern, myself. Especially with the KTTK tour so late in your schedule. :scared: But you're not the first person to get clobbered the week before, and every trip report I've read where someone was unexpectedly in a wheelchair or an ECV at Disney, they managed to have a good time anyhow. :) Some of them even discovered they like being forced to slow down, and took a more laid back approach to WDW even when they didn't have to. ;)

Take your camera and see if you get a new perspective on WDW. And I'm not referring to the fact that people in wheelchairs and ECVs see more tushies! :p

DH kept saying he was going to push me when I was riding in the one at Target. He was convinced it would be faster that way!

So funny because I had just visited your PTR and put the same thing about us racing our ECVs! :moped:

I hope your back feels better soon. I can't believe we're going to have to "play hurt" at Disney. :crazy2:

I wonder what it says about the sports fans I know IRL that I read this with the picture of your foot and ankle on my screen and thought, "Oh, no! Too early in the season to be celebrating enough you'd hurt yourself, so it must be her team lost and she kicked something." :scratchin

You're right, this will definitely force me to slow down the pace I was planning to tour. And for sure this will be something I won't soon forget! DH was asking me the other day, "Do you wish you knew what exactly happened, you know, so you could tell the doctors?" I replied, "Ummmm, no. I'm kind of glad I don't know what happened so I don't have to relive it over and over in my mind." :crazy2:

My Bearcats actually won their game, but I am one of those crazed sports fans who gets up and yells at the refs, jumps up and down, screams, etc. DH thinks I'm crazy, but I have fun! :teeth:

------------------------------------------
I am going to see my regular doctor today to see exactly what's going on. I'm still in pain and still can barely move my foot, so I want to get a definitive answer on what I'm going to need to do at WDW.

Wish me luck!

Oohhhhh Man! That really sucks about your ankle! I hope it's ALL better by the time you leave for your trip... Just tell your husband he has to carry you over his shoulder the whole trip... Good luck my friend!
