With another legend of America passing on this week, Ray Charles, I thought
it maybe appropriate to listen to his wonderful song here as we share a few
pictures from yesterday.
As said by Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher during her
ever so moving eulogy yesterday, "He turned enemies into friends...With
the lever of American patriotism, he lifted up the world. And so today the world
- in Prague, in Budapest, in Warsaw, in Sofia, in Bucharest, in Kiev and in
Moscow itself - the world mourns the passing of the Great Liberator and echoes
his prayer 'God Bless America'.....We here still move in twilight. But we have
one beacon to guide us that Ronald Reagan never had. We have his example. Let us
give thanks today for a life that achieved so much for all of God's
children." An appreciative and remembering country and world came
to grieve, to remember, to honor. To thank.Here are

from yesterday, a day which, while I watched or listened at various times,
brought me tears, smiles, even laughter a few times. And so it should be,
a memorial service is to recall and remember the life of the person, and that we
did. We did, along with President Reagan's wife, Nancy, a most loving
spouse, mom and Former First Lady, so dedicated and loving she is.Many
of the images I saw yesterday and during the week, rekindled images burned in my
memory from almost 41 years ago, in a chillier November of 1963. To
me, (not all), we honored and buried an hero back then; and yesterday, to me
(not all), we again, buried another hero......He made us feel good
about ourselves, our country

I was channel surfing around 10:25, looking for something to watch, thought maybe 20/20 would have something interesting, and the Reagan funeral stopped me dead in my tracks.

I had no plans to watch any of it, because I knew that I would boo-hoo right along with everyone else, and I was right.

Did anyone see Nancy Reagan at the very end, and how hard that must've been for her? And here are a thousand cameras ticking away taking a thousand photos of her mourning and saying her goodbyes, first by herself, and then surrounded by her children at the coffin for the final time. Ugh!

Too sad, just too sad. :sad:

Oh my gosh...I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face!

Thank you, Dan...I didn't catch any of it yesterday as I knew I would be a wreck. I am fortunate to still have my parents alive at 78 & 83 and all of this has hit too close to home.

Thanks Dan!! Once again you have done such a wonderful job on a tribute. The marine crying was a tear jerker. Thanks so much for adding the music of Ray Charles. He was born here and we hold him very dear.This has been such an emotional week for all Americans. I think I probably watched every minute of the news coverage and had many tearful moments. I really lost it when at the end Nancy broke down at the realization of her final moment with her Ronnie.

Thank you again, Dan, for another beautiful tribute to a true hero. My heart just broke in two for Mrs. Reagan and her children last night. When she collapsed in tears on the coffin, I just couldn't stop crying. She lost the love of her life, and her pain just breaks my heart. I pray that the Lord will sustain and comfort her as she misses President Reagan with all her heart.

Hi Debbi, and glad you enjoyed these and others. I do like to share emotion when and if I can, sometimes not all that difficult with picture and sound.

As for the pictures, it is just a matter of doing some searches, trying to find the right ones. Oftentimes, for a major 'event' as this has been, Yahoo will maintain updated 'slideshows' as days unfold. Many of the pictures are from there, but not all. It is a matter of going through them all (yesterday's was over 300) (this week I am sure I have looked at over 1,500) and trying to find the 'right ones', the ones that convey the moment, the emotion, that gut feeling, without verbage, the right look, the angle, the lighting, etc. I do find some others on MSNBC, CNN, FOX, as well as Google searches. This week i have pulled some from The Reagan Library, as well as various historical sites. And the music or sound, well, just again, trying lots of different ones to see what seems to fit the moment.

Hope that answers.

PS: Just an edit. As an example, at the end of the services, when Mrs. Reagan was in so much obvious pain with the emotion of that final moment of separation, there were many, many pictures of her really sobbing, crying, a lot. I wanted something close to that, to capture the essence of that moment, but not that picture that we all have seen in the papers and on news web sites. The picture I have neer the end of this post today, appears to be taken just a few moments before Mrs. Reagan really broke down, conveys the moment, IMO, but not quite as intrusive in such a pained moment. JMO
