You will love the Boardwalk area. It has many great restaurants within walking distance and fun entertainment on the Boardwalk at night. For restaurants, you can't go wrong with Shula's for steaks, Flying Fish for seafood and Spoodles for something exotic and different.
The Boardwalk Inn and Villas are very convenient to both Epcot and MGM if you want to walk to either. The quiet pool at the Boardwalk Inn, set in a a secluded rose garden, is perhaps the loveliest adult pool on Disney property. And if there are children along, the Luna Park Pool with "roller coaster" slide, is great fun. There is also a nice children's playground.
We usually stay at BWV, but last year spent a couple of nights at the BWI. We found the room to be elegant and comfortable. We think the furnishings and appointments are higher quality and more luxurious at the Inn, when comparied with the Villas (but we like the extra space in a one-bedroom villa).
Although the YC has many fans, we actually prefer the Boardwalk. The lobby is gorgeous and has so many fun and sometimes quirky decorations -- like the replica of the elephant hotel that was on the NJ shore at the turn of the century. The antique miniature carousel is enchanting.
For us, the Boardwalk is home (even though we aren't DVC'ers). You'll have a wonderful stay.
