We just received transfer to Aruba!

:sad2: My DS (21) just got word that the dates for his summer job have changed! He now won't be available until the week after our transfer. :sad2: This is a job he applied for months ago, teaching underpriviled kids. It's an enrichment program and they decided to start a week later and end a week later. Probably because of all the snow we had in CT. He can't leave early since he is teaching. I called DVC to see if there was any chance we could change the week, but nothing is available at such a late date. I was thinking of changing to another island, but now we think we may cancel and use the points next year. Instead, we may take a cruise but I'm not sure. I was thinking that between airfare, entertainment and food, a cruise may be possible.

We took the DCL Magic last year and loved it, but I was thinking the "kids" would enjoy RCL this time. I just don't know what to do! :confused3

Any advice would be appreciated.
Call DVC and ask them to check if there is something for the next week. It's likely they can find something for you since it's a much lower demand week. Simply keep calling them back. They will charge you another fee. If you're definitely not going to use it you may still want to wait about canceling since the replacement week will expire a year from cancellation. Just make sure you cancel a full 61 days prior to avoid the associated restrictions.

I'm sorry Dean - I was a little confused by your answer on why they gave me a 2 bedroom for the 1 Bedroom points. Can you explain again......The lady in MS told me they "NEVER" do it so I was feeling a bit lucky.....

Also, any idea on what type on "views" we may end up with. They don't guarantee "views" and now I am panicking we will be at the back of the hotel with no water view at all. Any sugestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.....

Thanks,
HeatherAnne :flower:

Thanks Dean, I'll call to check on Monday. Meanwhile, I have my TA (who is my uncle) checking on cruises out of NY for that week. We may use those points for next April break and possibly take NCL Dawn out of NY. :sunny:

If you match what you're searching for OR accept an instant match you pay the points for that week. If you are searching for a certain size week and match a larger unit, you pay the lower points. I suspect you were searching for a 1 BR and got the 2 with an ongoing search and if so they charged you correctly and gave you a song and dance. With the old system it was also possible within the 60 day window to get a larger unit with a smaller one. This is a good reason to search for a 1 BR if you can make do, far less points and the chance of an upgrade. But it depends on where you are looking for and the unit set ups there. But since the Marriott has lockoff's, you still got lucky.

As for view, They have ocean front and ocean side views. Unit assignments will put you on the lower end of the pole likely in an oceanside unit low down. You can call the resort about a week or two prior to your visit and make unit requests.
