Here's a handy little map I made up with virtually all the possible walking paths guests take at SSR. Relative distance and time is located below.
All told there are 12 paths. If you figure an average of 5-10 minutes walking for every .25 mile, you have some very nice leisurely opportunities for a morning stroll.
Path 1 (Yellow): Congress Park pool to DTD Marketplace. .35 miles (7-12 minutes)
Path 2 (Red): Congress Park pool to traffic circle entrance to Springs. 0.25 miles (5-10 min)
Path 3 (Light Blue): COngress Park pool to Paddocks pool. 0.43 miles (9-18 minutes)
Path 4 (Royal Blue): Congress Park bus stop to High Rock Springs pool. 0.24 miles (4-9 minutes)
Path 5 (Lime Green): Paddocks pool to HRS pool. 0.22 miles (4-9 minutes)
Path 6 (White): Paddocks pool to HRS pool, scenic route. 0.36 miles (7-12 minutes)
Path 7 (Dark Green): Carousel BBQ area to Artist's Palette. 0.42 miles (9-18 minutes)
Path 8 (Orange): Carousel BBQ area to Grandstand bus stop. 0.32 miles (7-12 minutes).
Path 9 (Pink): Grandstand bus stop to Artist's Palette. 0.27 miles (6-11 minutes)
Path 10 (Purple): Grandstand farthest building to Artist's Palette. 0.35 miles (7-12 minutes)
Path 11 (Dusty Blue East): SSR to DTD Westside. 0.48 miles (10-20 minutes)
Path 12 (Dusty Blue West): SSR to OKW Turtle Pond area. 0.70 miles (15-30 minutes)
The best areas to stay in at the resort tend to be Springs, Grandstand and Congress Park. A lot of people like Congress Park because it offers DTD views and the easiest walking distance to Marketplace. Springs is closest to HRS pool and AP, but also has the last stop on the bus route. At busy times of the year, both these places may have reached buus capacity by the time the bus pulls up to your stop.
Grandstand has become a Lovers' favorite because it gets the first busses (empty usually), has its own themed pool with pool bar, and is a surprisingly short distance to the resort center. (5 minutes walk usually.)
But in my explorations of the resort, I've found much of Paddocks to also offer good distances and views. I think there are only a couple buildings I wouldn't opt to stay in at SSR because they felt too remote.
