We finally (after 3 1/2 years of thinking about it) are DVC owners! I can't believe it really happened. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had good advice on which area of SSR is the best place to stay for me, DH, and DD 1. Least walking to buses, food, etc.....Thanks! I can't wait to start booking my first trip!:woohoo: I'm ready to get out of Washington, it has been a long winter and I need some sun and disney.

Where is the best place to stay is completely subjective. My family and I personally love Congress Park. Walking distance to DTD, views of DTD, not too long a walkm to pool and clubhouse. If you are really concerned about walking, don't go to Disney World :rotfl2: .

Kidding!! The Springs is the shortest walk to main pool and clubhouse. There are bus stops at every section.

Enjoy your first trip. Welcome home!!

I never worry about room location - call me weird - but I really do not mind what building I stay in when I go to Disney. I always enjoy!

We just got back from a 5 night stay at SSR and we were in the Paddock, room 5101. We liked the location a lot. There was a bus stop right outside our building (The Paddock stop) and a "quiet" pool as well. It was also a short 5 minute walk to the large pool and to the main building.

I would definitely stay in this building again. It was very quiet and close enough to everything.

I may not mind staying close to DD. That way we could walk over instead of bussing.

:welcome: home, SSR (and WA) neighbor!! We've just been to SSR once and stayed at Congress Park. We enjoyed the location and the room.

P.S. I know what you mean about the weather in WA! We got snow last night...SNOW! In Western WA, at least, that's virtually unheard of this time of year. Thankfully we're heading to WDW in 2 days!! :yay:

I keep reading about a fire station alarm that is very loud.

I have stayed about 70 nights at SSR in the past 2 years. We have never heard a "fire bell" or siren on any of our trips. Maybe we are lucky, I dunno? :confused3

Welcome! We are DVC owners at SSR too. WE LOVE IT. The pool is amazing. We stayed far from the main pool. Can't remember the name of the building, but we had to walk across the long narrow bridge. We enjoyed the walk to the pool, spa, food every time. My 1 year old twins thought it was great to watch the huge turtles in the pond. It is so beautiful there that it doesn't matter where you are as long as you are there. Enjoy!

Congratulations on your DVC purchase!!

I would reccomend reading the SSR Lovers thread.....lots of good information and pictures.

Our building was near the firehouse and we did not hear a thing.
It was a beautiful resort!

Here's a handy little map I made up with virtually all the possible walking paths guests take at SSR. Relative distance and time is located below.

All told there are 12 paths. If you figure an average of 5-10 minutes walking for every .25 mile, you have some very nice leisurely opportunities for a morning stroll.

Path 1 (Yellow): Congress Park pool to DTD Marketplace. .35 miles (7-12 minutes)
Path 2 (Red): Congress Park pool to traffic circle entrance to Springs. 0.25 miles (5-10 min)
Path 3 (Light Blue): COngress Park pool to Paddocks pool. 0.43 miles (9-18 minutes)
Path 4 (Royal Blue): Congress Park bus stop to High Rock Springs pool. 0.24 miles (4-9 minutes)
Path 5 (Lime Green): Paddocks pool to HRS pool. 0.22 miles (4-9 minutes)
Path 6 (White): Paddocks pool to HRS pool, scenic route. 0.36 miles (7-12 minutes)
Path 7 (Dark Green): Carousel BBQ area to Artist's Palette. 0.42 miles (9-18 minutes)
Path 8 (Orange): Carousel BBQ area to Grandstand bus stop. 0.32 miles (7-12 minutes).
Path 9 (Pink): Grandstand bus stop to Artist's Palette. 0.27 miles (6-11 minutes)
Path 10 (Purple): Grandstand farthest building to Artist's Palette. 0.35 miles (7-12 minutes)
Path 11 (Dusty Blue East): SSR to DTD Westside. 0.48 miles (10-20 minutes)
Path 12 (Dusty Blue West): SSR to OKW Turtle Pond area. 0.70 miles (15-30 minutes)

The best areas to stay in at the resort tend to be Springs, Grandstand and Congress Park. A lot of people like Congress Park because it offers DTD views and the easiest walking distance to Marketplace. Springs is closest to HRS pool and AP, but also has the last stop on the bus route. At busy times of the year, both these places may have reached buus capacity by the time the bus pulls up to your stop.

Grandstand has become a Lovers' favorite because it gets the first busses (empty usually), has its own themed pool with pool bar, and is a surprisingly short distance to the resort center. (5 minutes walk usually.)

But in my explorations of the resort, I've found much of Paddocks to also offer good distances and views. I think there are only a couple buildings I wouldn't opt to stay in at SSR because they felt too remote.
