One more thing, if you do decide to buy resale later on, know the limitation/restriction before buying resale. I believe you can't use your points for Disney collection options like using for staying at other non DVC Disney resort hotels and Disney cruises, and adventure by Disney. This is a major factor for us since we are planning on using our points for staying at Disney resorts in France, china and Japan in he future. (I know it's not the best use of the DVC points) but still better than booking direct cost wise.). So just something to consider depending on how you would want to use your DVC points.

But you can rent out your points and use the proceeds to pay for the non-DVC Disney trip.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate all your honest information. I think we will be taking the advice of buying a contract second hand later.

here's an example of what we got resale some months ago.
first off we already had 2 contracts both BWV . 1) 150 pts resale in 2002, 2) 100 pts from disney 2003.

now this new 150 pt contract (bwv) resale had 150 (2009pts) banked into 2010, 150 2010 pts banked into 2011 and all 150 pts for 2011. total pts 450 pts.
We paid $72 a pt for this 150 pt contract. they paid dues on all pts before 2011 we paid 2011 dues and half closing price.
You can wheel and deal with resale but not Disney.
