We had a disgusting episode at Rose & Crown.....

If I happened to be sitting on a bench in Epcot and a child threw up nearby, it would not be a big deal. However, if I was eating in a restaurant and a child threw up five feet away from me, it would be. I don't know how anyone can be expected to eat with that vomit smell lingering, whether it's from your child or someone else's. I would have politely asked to be moved and expect that my request would be quickly granted, given the circumstances.

I guess I'm in the minority because if my child threw up in a restaurant for any reason, we would be out of there very quickly. If seeing Illuminations was so important, we'd find a place outside the restaurant, just in case the throwing up happened again.

I do agree that the OP did seem a bit freaked out by the whole episode.

Having said that, my son is a "puker". He's puked a few times at Disney World but not because he was sick. Most of it was nerves. He threw up in line twice. The CMs came with the sawdust to clean it up (it really is the most effective way). I did immediately remove my son from the line even though he wasn't sick. First of all, because I didn't know if he would do it again and secondly, because I know that the vomit of strangers makes other people uneasy. I'm sure no one wanted to stand in line another 30 minutes with my son who may or may not have a virus (for all they knew) and with the possibility that it would happen again. Many people are very sensitive to the smell of vomit and I didn't think it was fair to make people more uncomfortable.

I do think that the people with the vomiting child should have left, but that's my own hang-up.

I am just very happy that when my child did get sick, everyone around me in line was very sympathetic and understanding (despite the fact that I'm sure someone got "splashed."). Compassion is a wonderful thing. I just hate to think of if I had someone around me pissing and moaning about it all. I would have felt 10 times worse than I already did.

I don't think it would of bothered me that much. I have three children so I am used to cleaning up vomit. At least they were cleaning it up instead of it just sitting there, things happen. If it really bothered you then I would of asked to be moved to another table..

Wow - first of all, I didn't swear. I was extremely quiet about the whole thing. I have 3 kids and KNOW how they can get sick and surprise ya and I certainly do not like to be embarrassed and would not care to embarrass somebody else....the thing is, I QUIETLY and DISCRETELY asked the CMs to move and was given the runaround. I actually ddidn't even want to stay and eat. The smell was repulsing me. I didn't even say a word to the jolly guy that wanted us to start their fireworks. We have seen them many times so it's no chance of a lifetime. I would rather have healthy kids. Our main meal hadn't even come out, I wanted to get away. Couldn't because they didn't clean it up so well and it was right in the walkway. Sorry you all don't mind vomit, but I do. I guess I am really surprised. I have 3 kids and they have NEVER once thrown up due to anything but illness. Don't even like to clean up my own kids' vomit, and another kid's puke is alltogether too much while I am going to have dinner on my 2nd night at WDW on my 40th bday trip with big, expensive plans to come that could be way ruined by one of us getting ill. We have had too many vacations ruined by illness going thru our family.

I think it's so funny that there are so many threads about who's wearing what in a concierge lounge that is bothering people (swimsuits, flipflops, bare feet, pjs...etc) yet VOMIT doesn't bother anybody!! Too funny. I don't care what anybody wears or looks like, but vomit or poop etc while dining is not my thing. I guess I am pretty much alone in the vomit issue, but I think it's gross.

Happy travels,

Lives4Disney :)

I don't think you are alone on this. Like I said, I wouldn't be able to sit there with it also.
I just posted in hopes that you wouldn't let it ruin your opinion of Rose and Crown. It could have happened anywhere.

Lives4Disney - you might want to reread your OP. It may have sounded different than you meant. You really sounded condescending and demanding and I don't think that was the point you wanted to get across.

We all have kids, none of us want them to get sick, but I don't think your kids were in a "germ alert" stage just by being in the same restaurant. ALso, it did sound rather melodramatic when you kept saying you were trapped by the vomit.

I can't stand when kids vomit! However, my 2 year old vomits weekly. He is never sick when he does. We have taken him to the doctor's many times and it is a gag reflex. We cannot figure out what is triggering it. Having said that, I do not leave when he vomits. We clean up and continue on. If we left whenever he did this, we would be better off staying locked up in our home.

That's not what your first post said.

Your original post says...

I asked our waiter if one of their little ones thru up. I get some runaround with a smile that "quite possibly"....and he goes away!

According to, well... you - you didn't ask to be moved, you asked if someone threw up.

Then you wrote...

I am like - uh, I don't want my kids within 50 yards of these kids and there is NO WAY in **** that we will be participating in some little silly thing with a vomiting kid.....he acts like I am a crazy kook for overreacting. (I don't THINK so)

Capital letters generally means yelling. Which isn't the same as being extremely quiet. Stars (****) generally mean swearing.

Maybe you can see where people are coming from when they think you may have over-reacted slightly.

As DisneyMomx7 wrote, you might want to check your original post.

You're not alone.

I would not want to eat in an area where someone has vomited.

I'm willing to bet the family of the sick child didn't leave because they had prime Illuminations viewing seats. :sad2:

I also think it's funny what bothers people. If you had written that the family were wearing shirts with offensive words or pictures, you would have pages of people saying how awful that is. Yet many people wouldn't be bothered by smelling vomit while they eat. :lmao: :confused3

I believe most people understand that vomit is not nice, and would prefer not to dine next to a pool of vomit.

However, there's a difference between wearing a shirt with offensive words on it, and a child vomiting.

Someone who wears a shirt with offensive words is wearing it on purpose, probably trying to get a reaction from people.

A little girl who vomits, generally vomits because she's not feeling well.

Most people who have posted are just being sympathetic to the little girl and her family, and feel the OP was a little harsh in her response to the situation.

Do you have any idea how many sick kids you probably were around but didn't know it? Just because somebody's not puking doesn't mean they aren't sick.
Too bad your kids got to miss that starting of Illuminations just because you thought somebody was sick.

And your first post certainly sounded like you made a scene.....

I would rather eat next to a 1/2 naked hairy, dirty guy in a Speedo with bare feet than a person throwing up......

I'm hairy, not really dirty, and my feet are exquisite works of art. But if I wore a Speedo, I'd be WAY more than 1/2 naked.

Sorry you had a bad experience. :( Hopefully the child just threw up due to heat/exhaustion/etc. and not because of illness. I hate to admit it, but over the years my children have also thrown up at just about every amusement park in the country (the most horrifying was when my DD barfed on an entire group of people waiting for Fantasmic to start in DL -- we just grabbed her and ran for fear of a lynch mob!).

Hopefully no one with a weak stomach will be near us in Dec. because my youngest child throws up without even thinking it's bad. It's not because she is ILL.....it's because she has anxiety and it's her only way of releasing this anxiety. I have done everything in the book to try to overcome this including medicine and being seen by a counselor but nothing has worked. I'll be sure to carry a sign around letting people know she has this problem....NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I will not cancel my vacation or anything else because of this. We deal with it the best we can and hope everyone else can understand.

Nobody wants to smell vomit or sit next to vomit, but your reaction (at least the way it sounded in your OP) was over the top. First of all, your kids aren't going to get ill from someone throwing up nearby (they're more likely to get ill from all the handwipes you use, which then lowers their resistance). Second of all, I feel if you asked the first waiter politely but firmly to be moved it would have been done promptly. It's possible you got a baffoon waiter, but that's who you should be mad at, not the family next to you.

My son threw up at Disney last September cause he was chewing on his shirt and gagged on it. I can totally understand it ruining your dinner though.

I have 2 kids that are pukers as well. My daughter being the worst. Her gag reflex is so sensitive and many things set it off. Smells, sights, a little choke on food or drink. She has been like that since birth.

I think most parents would leave if their child threw up because they were sick. I would. But if I knew my child was not sick and only vomited because of her gag reflex I would not leave. My DS threwup at the WL pool last Oct. because he sucked in some water. I sat right near the throwup so noone would step in it and the CM's came and got it all cleaned up. I made my son sit out from the pool for a little while to be sure he was okay and then let him continue swimming. I knew he wasn't sick.

I think the OP did get a little over the top in her post. I can't blame her for wanting to move to a different table becuase it is not enjoyable to eat with the smell of vomit. Maybe the CM's were trying to find a different table for them and that's why she took it as getting the run around.

If we would have been in the OP's situation there would have been a lot of vomit all around. When my kids got a whiff of that vomit or saw it they would have joined in with the vomiting. ;)

We have had kids vomit near us in the past and I had to cover my kids eyes and get them out of there quick. We definitely would have had to switch tables. But in no way would I have been angry with the CM's or the little girl.

I think the OP was just disgusted because her meal and her perfect table spot was ruined. Understandable but what are you going to do. :confused3 Things like that happen.

WOW! I agree it is only vomit. But as a parent if my child threw up in a restaurant I would apologize to the other diners explain it is anxiety and leave. I would even assist in cleaning up the mess my child made. I would not be able to eat around vomit - I cant even eat if my cat spits up a hair ball - But I can clean up my childs vomit. I gag if its some one else's child. Also my daughter has Asthma and those chemicals they just threw down would have caused an attack. Things should have been handled differently.

OP: They probably took so long to move you because HELLO it was the Rose and Crown during the fireworks. DUH.

Your children would not have "caught" anything from the vomit unless they digested it. Vomit does not emit airborne viruses. Please don't let your kids eat vomit.

The CMs were acting like NO BIGGY because they probably clean up puke 10 times a day. It's DISNEYWORLD. You seem to have preferred they run around with their hands in the air, freaking out.

What- you can't step over sawdust vomit? I guarantee you have owrse things on the bottom of your shoes after a day at a park.

You win Most Annoying and Entitled-sounding Guest of the Day.

"those chemicals they just threw down would have caused an attack. Things should have been handled differently."

No, your daughter would have had to move, as there are state regulations for handling bodily fluids that require specific chemicals. Sorry. I'm sure Disney has to follow those rules just like everyone else.

Without reading anything past page2 of this thread, I just want to say that I'd be totally disgusted by the family remaining there even after their kid has thrown up, as well.
