We got back 3 days ago. The groups were annoying!!

By the end of the 2nd week of August, the Brazillian tour groups are gone. As are all the families from the Southern U.S. (their schools open by then).

At which WDW becomes wonderful again.

Don't most US schools start around the same time and not just the Southern states or did you mean South America? I'm not flaming you here, but I'm a bit confused on the Southern US connection to loud tour groups or cheerleaders. :confused3

I've never known of Arkansans having that problem so feel free to visit away! :wave2:

I'll tell you where some of these groups stay, at the all stars! my dh and dd stayed at the movies in Jan for the first and last time. there were two large groups of teens staying there the week we were there. what really got me was being cut in line all the time. they would leave their garbage all over the tables and were so rude when you would try to get drinks. I was annoyed everytime I saw a group, and they seemed to be everywhere I went. My husband and I were saying disney should have a little class on manners, and proper behavior. I understand that this is a vacation for them, but it is for everyone else as well. why should our trips be ruined?

For the most part, New England schools don't start until after Labor Day. One of these years we'll get around to putting AC in the schools.... :rotfl:

In Chicago we also start after Labor Day. I think the only connection was that WDW would be more managable when the tour groups were gone and lots of kids would be back in school. I don't think anyone was comparing the two :goodvibes

Ok, this is what i know about brazllin tour groups. (info provided by very nice individuals I have meet either at WDW or on line.) A trip to WDW while a teen is a rite of passage for middle class youth in Brazil. Parents save for it and it is a status symbol if you can send your kid. However because of the expense it isn't like america where FAMLIES go to WDW for a vacation together. Too much money for whole families (air fare and such) These are very poorly supervised groups. Hardly any at all. To top it off it gets repuation for poor behavior, anything goes, almost expected to act bad. (think college students on spring break, but underage.) The chaparones don't really care about the kids or the repuation of the group (unlike a church youth group that really is a group before and after the trip.) Stories don't get home to parents.

Now I also heard from my driver at quicksliver (from Brazil) that time are hard in Brazil and less and less people are able to afford the trip. WDW has even stopped all adversting in Brazil. He say's he can't get his family to come visit him or go to WDW, most of the interest is really for young teens. (too bad because individuals and familes aren't the problem.)

Too anyone who say's "kids will be kids, let them have fun at the happiest place on earth." You haven't been to WDW around them I am guessing and have a different kind of group in mind all together. No one is saying people and groups shouldn't have fun while there, but this anything goes, no consequnces or expecations for behavior is unaceptable and I say WDW should start activily doing something about the problem. (Like setting up some rules and expecations and supervising them and removing them from the park if they can't behave.) It sound like even with out advertsing in Brazil the groups are still brining large numbers over.

We had the Brazillians all over the place when we were there the first 2 weeks of July. At Fantasmic and waiting for spectromagic on Main St. - when they were all doing the "cheer" thing - our bunch thought it was rather entertaining. I don't know that we had any unsupervised Brazillian teen moments but mostly it was "this park is totally packed" moment. I might feel differently if we had been staying at the resort with them though.

A gross misread of my point, which was to respond to the poster that implied that the whole summer at WDW isn't worth dealing with. I pointed out that last August is a fantastic time to visit, both because the problematic south American tour groups are gone AND the fact crowds in general shrink, because of school system openings in a particular region of the country. I wasn't in any way implying that guests from that area (the south) are a problem.

No, school system schedules vary quite a bit by region.

As example, most schools in Georgia (and most other southern states) will open on or around Thursday, August 4th.

Whereas in New York, most won't open until over a month later on Wednesday, September 7th.

Nik's Mom - I don't think it relates directly to a racial type thing. To me it is a large group especially unsupervised teenagers that cause the problem.

Slightly OT - While waiting in a short line to enter FP or TT an older gentleman was ahead of a small family. All of a sudden he started hollering for his family and put his hand up to block the family behind him. He then waited until his entire family entered with their FP (at least 20) before letting the family behind him go. These people by the way were not in line they came from somewhere else. The family ahead of me was very ticked to put it mildly. I couldn't believe he didn't step aside to wait on his family or that the CM didn't do anthing.

LOL someone did that to me once. I smiled at him as I continued to walk past the outstreched hand. He said something nasty, and I told him to contact a CM if he had a problem with me not letting him cut in line.

Needless to say, he didn't. ;)

On a similar note, I was in Philharmagic this spring and it was a full crowd (raining out). We got 1/3 of the way down a row (and the theater was filling up) when this family sat straight down about 2/3 of the way over, about 8 (empty) seats from the end. There were people behind me who weren't going to get a seat.

So I cupped my hands around my mouth and repeated Goofy's instructions, "PLEASE MOVE ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE END OF THE ROW". You never saw a group of people jump up faster, I swear. LOL. One of the CM's gave me a big "rock on" cheer from the other side of the room. A few people around me congratulated me, and I just said, "Hey, I wasn't sure they heard..." ;)

Now, I'm a very pleasant person - I come from a small town, I say hello to strangers as I pass by, I hold doors for everyone (not just old ladies, hehe). However, I just don't deal with bad behavior from others, or when other people try to pretend they are more important than everyone else. I just don't deal with it, but I also don't let it stress me out. You can stand up for yourself with a big smile on your face and without being rude - ya just gotta do it with a bit of style. :)

But on another note, I went to Old Navy in Orlando and bought a t-shirt that says BRAZIL on it. It is yellow. My wife said I should wear it on Halloween, carry a flag, and they will also wear yellow shirts and we can be our own little tour group!

I'll have you know I just spit Diet Pepsi all over my keyboard...

I have to agree the Brazilians are the rudes and very LOUD LOUD group to come up against. I see them and I go the other way. These groups should be banned from the parks IMHO if they cannot act like humans instead of bunch of IDOITS.

You guys are talking about the Brazillian groups being there in the summer, but when we were there this past January, there was quite a few of them around also. We didn't have any big problems with them other than them cutting in line a few times. I just never let them get by with it.

Some Brazillan families were also there and were just as bad. One young family had a little boy that just kept climbing on the railings and then running and slamming into people and they thought it was funny. At one point he ran at my son and just bounced off, falling to the ground. The little imp got mad, jumped up, and came at my son with his little fists raised, at which point the dad finally quit laughing and caught him up, telling him no. At the La Nouba show I was sitting in the lower middle section about 9 rows up. I was sitting with my son and GD in the first three seats (in other words perfect seats). Just before the show started a young Brazillian man stepped across us and sat down next to me. He told me they had gotten their seats at the last minute at the walkup window and asked me if I would be willing to change seats with his wife. He then pointed to a lady way up on the side in the upper level. I was shocked he asked, but politely told him no. He then proceeded to argue that if I didn't his wife would be sitting by herself. I again told him no and reminded him that if I changed seats with her not only would I be giving my expensive lower seat to go sit in the attic, but I would also be seperating myself from my family. He got really angry and finally my son glared at him and said 'she's not moving, you should have bought tickets months ago like we did'. When the show started the man took out a video camera and started filming. I politely told him that video cameras were not allowed and he snottily said 'then you should have changed seats with my wife and you wouldn't have to see it'. He then he turned the video toward me blinding me for a few moments until I knocked it away. At that point a CM came to him and told him video cameras were not allowed. Suddenly the man didn't speak English. I smiled and politely said 'you sure spoke fluent English up until a few moments ago'. He put the camera up and started muttering about 'rude Americans'.

If they don't speak English, it makes me think I should go to a translation site, and learn how to say "go back to the end of the line, jerk" in Portuguese.

I read on another site that Disney stopped renting rooms to the Brazilian tour groups because of the dammage they did to the rooms. The tour groups had to go to off site hotels, and post a huge amount of money in case of damage. Perhaps, this has changed.

We go many times in January, or February, stay at the All Stars, and see the cheer and dance groups, and I've said many times how mannerly they are. Yes, sometimes on the bus they can be excited and loud, but on the whole, they are very courteous. I found in the food court, they were well behaved as well. Perhaps it's because they are representing their school, or are better chaperoned.

I was pretty sure the original post meant to say S. America, that's why I thought it was funny - seeming to imply that you Southern Staters have a tendency to break into cheers at will - maybe in your local mall, in the lunchroom at work etc. Anyway, Arkansas was the state that came to mind when I thought Southern States. Maybe my humour is a bit 'lost in translation' LOL

it is totally disgusting to go to wash your hands and see gobs of long black hairs cloging the drain. funny, the hair is always black. never blonde, brown, red or grey. jet black.

Ok I did not read this entire thread so I dont know if this was addressed yet.
But ARE YOU FOR REAL??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After reading most of your threads I think you just like to push buttons!!!

We've gone down many times in the summer and the Brazillian tour groups
are indeed very annoying. We were talking with a CM at Planet Hollywood
and he had some background information. These kids are for the most part
kids of the aristocracy in Brazil. Most of them have Mommy&Daddy's credit
card, so's they dont' worry too much about $$. They also go to Miami and
"shop till they drop". I think that some of the reason that they're so "impolite" is that
they're really part of the 'ruling class' in Brazil, and they feel that they don't need to be polite to folks that they consider to be their inferiors.
I noticed after the Brazialians came to WDW in large groups is when WDW
started setting up formal queues for Meet and Greet's -too many times we would be standing in line with our two DD's and a bunch of
Brazillians would cut in front of us -and at that time, their knowdledge of
English would disappear..... amazing! :rolleyes1 Not long after that, the
more formal Meet and Greet's started at the MK, and moved to the other
parks over the next year or so.
We had a funny experience at EC a while ago... We were in a looong line at
one of the restaraunts in the Commmunicore (now Innoventions West)..
Almost all the other guests were Brazillian, withh widely varied English skills.
This very very harried CM at the register, when I started to order... She
looked up and said "thank goodness, your'e Americans!" She then gasped,
and then said "boy, I hope you're not Disney CM's, are you??" I assured her
that we were not, and made sure that the manager at the restaraunt knew
how good she was doing her job with how busy it was and the language issues that she had. We've been going down over New Year's the last few
years so we haven't seen TOO many tour groups during that time... it's busy
enough then without any tour groups! :goodvibes

We just got back from the World and had no problem with the tour groups. They seemed well behaved and everything. Like someone said this thread will turn into a debate soon. :earsboy:

Actually it is 6 pages long and not debate so far.

And for the most part is has remained rather cvil! :cheer2:

Most people agree, groups that are out of hand, evil and really bad, groups under control. No problem. (unless you just happen to get in line behind them and have a longer wait time, but what are you going to do?) ;)

We were at WDW over this past weekend. The tour groups were very much present still. However, while the kids were extremely pushy when it came to lines, they seemed much better behaved than in the past. Sadly, I found the adults with these groups to be as discourteous as the teenagers -- maybe worse!!
