We did the tour 4 years ago. Have gotten the updated brochures every year - this time we had some extra funds so we bought. We only bought 60 (SSR) for now though because we didn't want to finance and we could buy that many with cash. We have plans on adding 40 more by the end of the year with cash again. Our next WDW trip isn't until 2013 (we are going to DLR in the fall since I won a OMDD trip) so we will have plenty by then.

So....what will the advantage be of buying our next block through disney vs resale?

Resale is about 50% cheaper which paying cash = 2X the amount of points :rotfl2:

If you are looking to use your points for DVC, which is why you should buy in the 1st place, then resale is the way to go. You will not be able to use resale points for DCL or Disney Collection (wdw hotels or DL hotels) but can still use it RCI exchanges if you wanted. We bought 130 point SSR last year and after renting the 2009 points out our purchase price was about 6300.00 which included the closing cost. After renting the points we still had 130 2010 banked points and 130 more Oct 1, 2011, which we are using this week towards are THV stay!:worship: If we bought direct it would have cost us about 13000.00 a difference of 6700.00!:scared1:

The advantage is being able to use them where others can't when buying through resale. Like the Disney Collection and the Adventure collection. Of course it can be argued (Me being one of them) that these are a poor value choice for using your points. The points system is designed to use points for DVC resort stays. Other options are available, but the points hold far less value doing those other things. The other advantage is you close on the transaction quickly and have the points available to use immediately. When buying resale, the transaction can take up to 8 weeks or more to complete. And then you still have to wait till you are in the Disney system before you can start to use the points.

For me, resale allowed be to buy my points at a MUCH lower price. I bought BLT points for less than SSR direct. To me, that was a bigger advantage than being able to exchange my points for other things.

Also remember that the things that are restricted from resale buyers take A LOT of points. So when you're debating these small contracts, keep that in mind.

Basically if you plan to use the points for DVC only and don't need them in the next eight weeks or so, you're probably better off going the resale route.

For me the most important consideration would be;
#1 - price and therefore resale
#2 - same use year

If you are buying a small contract, I understand direct from Disney you can pick your use year and number of points. Resale may take a very long time to find a small contract with the same use year.

Happy hunting... I'm sure which every way you go you will be happy because at the end of the day it's more DVC points :teleport:

Thanks for the information :)

We will definitely look at buying resale in the fall - waiting 8 weeks won't be a big deal because we won't be going till the sept 2013...so we have plenty of time :cool1:

Congrats on your purchase! FWIW: You didn't "cave", you made the most sensible choice for planning many trips to WDW over an extended period of time as any completely over-the-top Disney fan would do;):earsboy:

lol I know - we really wanted to do it 4 years ago - but it didn't make financial sense at the time - we knew we didn't have the cash to buy it outright and didn't have the extra per month to do payments - so we waited - and now we bought it outright - and will do the same when we add points.
