We bought DVC today! Yeah! I am totally thrilled with the decision and as the mother of four kids who goes every year and stays at a deluxe resort, I feel confident that we made the right decision for us!
Here's my question, we wanted 320 points and decided on two 160 point contracts at BLT because of the lower dues, even though we love AKV also. At the very last minute I had an ah ha moment, why not one contract at each resort? So that's what I did, was this a mistake?

No mistake. Also very smart of you to split up the contracts even if you ended up buying all the points at the same resort. It gives an owner more options if they ever want to sell.

Enjoy the points.

I actually wish we had done that. All you do is bank/borrow year-to-year for each specific contract. That way one year you get 320 BLT points and the next you have 320 for AKV. So you got yourself the 11-month booking at both resorts with big enough contracts to enjoy a long stay.

Smart!:thumbsup2

Count me in as another vote for doing the right thing. We did almost the exact same thing, but we split ours between BWV and AKV. (Epcot is DH's and my favorite park, and DS is an animal nut, so it made perfect sense for us.)

I think you'll be very pleased with your choices.

Congrats!

Congratulations! The only disadvantage that I see is if you ever want a GV at either. We own 150 at VB and it doesn't buy many Beach Cottage nights, of course banking and borrowing allows it, we had one last year and will have one next year, but it does require a bit more more planning than if you had all at one resort. GV's at BLT and AKV are expensive!

No mistake! You and your kids will have great fun planning your many vacations. Good Job and :welcome: Home!

I think you did right thing. Smart of you to split the points between two contracts. Congratulations!

I don't think so - if you go every year and have 4 kids, you really need more than 160 points at BLT that you'll have home booking privileges with. AKV will likely be easier to book at 7 months than BLT will.

Congrats, and welcome home, neighbor! :cool1:

Congratulations on your new purchase! Welcome home!

Another vote that it was a good decision.

Using bank and borrow, you can take advantage of 11 month booking window at either resort.
Or you can also do split stays using the 11 month booking window.

We're trying our first split stay this December. When we're at AKV Kidani, we're planning to go to AK, DHS, and DTD. When we're at BLT, we're planning to go to MK, Epcot, and a few meals at the MK area resorts.

I think they will be banking and/or borrowing, alternating travel to each resort -- first trip 320 points for AKV and the next trip 320 points at BLT. That should be plenty for each trip.

good move - great decision! very liquid if need be!

Congrats to you and family!

It sounds like a good decision.
But to play devil's advocate you might be looking at an add on in your future once you plan to go to Disney more than once a year at either home resort.

You have to bank the points at one resort for the following year giving you 320 pts every other year at BLT. Which is great since 160 wont get you a 1br and with 4 children plus you a studio would be a little cramped. But you knew this which is why you wanted 320pts in the first place...enough for a 1 or 2br for a week.

Once you reach the point you want to go twice a year it becomes an issue.
But for now it give you the freedom of two fabulous resorts at the all important 11 month booking window! Good job.
