We ate/drank whatever we wanted- a first time review!

loving your reviews!

We also have a daughter who would prefer to eat adult food (though she is only just shy of 2 years old). She loves yellow curry chicken and her favorite is calamari. Really happy for you what the CM at the Nine Dragons was able to do for you

Nine Dragons sounds yummy! I am excited because in general I have heard bad reviews of the food inthe China pavilion, but maybe now I will be able to make a ressie!

Thanks on the reviews. It's so funny because we have the opposite problem of a lot of parents (kids will only eat kid food). Do kids exist that just eat everything?:confused3

So funny that you mention this, DH & I had read the bad reviews so maybe went in with lower expectations perhaps, but DD6 wouldn't be influenced at all by expectations and she picked this as her favorite of the trip!

Now admittedly, we had a few choices this trip that get some bad reviews, we didn't always agree, but with 1 we did, still to come...just to keep you interested;)!

oooooh suspense! Can't wait!

what a great review and the photos are excellent.

We have not tried the Nine Dragons but one day maybe. When we went to the Luau with our grandkids last May. we didnt know if they would eat some of the foods so the waitress brought out hot dogs and mac and cheese....and they still ate some of the food at the luau....

You are right......great cm's make the trip....even more special....

On the Rainbow Margarita.......I had one on an extremely hot afternoon on an empty stomach.....we were walking over to Morocco for dinner .....so alot of booze, hot sunny day, empty stomach made for a walking zombie.....I could of been sloshed as I am not a big drinker......it made for a funny conversation later...

Thanks so much for your great reviews.....I can see everyone, including myself is enjoying it.......

Thanks so much, glad you are enjoying my reviews. I can totally imagine the conversation after drinking the Margarita on an empty stomach, it was quite potent! :lmao:

For breakfast 12/21 I enjoyed another treat I had picked up at Main Street Bakery on 12/19:
IMG_3904.jpg

An everything bagel!

Since we stayed in a DVC studio we had the mini fridge/kitchenette and had ordered staples from garden grocer, so I toasted and topped it with cream cheese and enjoyed it before heading to MK. It was good, you can see it was loaded with everything as you would expect, yummy salty garlicky morning treat!

We snacked on some treats while enjoying our day at MK...

DD6 had...
IMG_3905.jpg

A frozen strawberry bar, she loves these, on our last trip to Disney many a snack credit was used for Strawberry bars!

DH enjoyed:
IMG_3906.jpg

A Mickey Bar! Think this goes without saying that it was enjoyed, how can you go wrong with a Mickey Bar?!??

and I went with:
IMG_3907.jpg

A frozen banana covered in chocolate and nuts. This is probably one of my favorite frozen treats, I am not big into sweets, but this is such a good combo of flavors, plus I convince myself it is more healthy...

So for lunch we headed to Crystal Palace. This was our third family trip to Disneyworld, and our third time to eat here. I choose this place because I remember enjoying it in the past so I decided to book here again. My pictures are not great from here of food, but here are some shots of our plates:

One of mine:
IMG_3908.jpg

I had mainly nuggets, pizza and mashed potatoes. I tried some other stuff off the buffet, cous cous salad, spicy corn bread stuff, vegetable fritta (basically scrambled eggs with vegetables), potato salad. You can see all those items on my variety plate above.

DH started with a salad which I didn’t get a shot of, then he filled 1 plate with pizza and anther with:
IMG_3910.jpg

Odd, yes, nuggets and sliced turkey meat. Nothing else appealed to him.

And DD6 mainly ate rice, she tried the Morrocan chicken (I told her it was curry) but mainly stuck to Rice and then a big plate of:
IMG_3909.jpg

Fresh fruit! They were good, but again, not the best fruit quality. DD6 loves strawberries though, so she was satisfied.

Now for our thoughts on the food: I don’t really know why I thought I liked this place so much. It was ok at best, definitely not great food by any means. Now, I do like “bad” pizza a lot, so this did the trick for me, but here you are really paying for meeting all the characters with no lines. DD6 is in love with Eyore so she was delighted. But I am still left with that feeling of not being able to find good food at MK.

And now for the bottom line:

Would we recommend to a friend? Probably not unless they were just in it for the Characters, food just disappointed us for the cost.

Would we eat here again? We actually talked about how we planned to try something different next time as we were all disappointed this go round.

Cost: $91.13 (before TIW discount) TIW discount $14.79, total paid $76.34

TIW savings tally (running total): $96.58

its funny how the buffets differ at the time of the day too.....we enjoyed the dinner buffet and we are going back again......no kiddos with us on this trip but just hubby and myself...

Yes, it must be a timing thing on the buffet. Because I know we loved it the past 2 trips, was just off for us this time. We did do 11:35 lunch, so right when lunch began and the buffet lines were so LONG.

Your reviews are fabulous - thank you so much for sharing!

Now as the night went on DH got hungry. I mentioned a slice of pizza would be great, but turns out no pizza at MK, at least not during MVMCP, though I am pretty sure they don't have a QS pizza place at all. What a shame! We decided to do Comic Rays. We both decided on nuggets and fries, but since I wasn't too hungry and DD6 wasn't eating I decided I would do the kids meal, DH did the adult meal. Here were the plates:

DH's plate:

They were good breaded white meat strips, all was tasty and what you would expect from a QS place.

And my plate:

You will notice the nuggets are the processed yuck kind of nuggets. Hello, adults get the good chicken when they order nuggets and kids get this? I only ordered the kids meal because I wanted the smaller portion, I had no idea the actually cooked a cheaper *yuck* chicken for the kids and a good one for the adults. No wonder DD6 won't eat the kids food. You can guess I didn't care for the chicken. They did serve the same fries which were fine, and DD6 and I shared the grapes.

Yeah unfortunately that's the thing about the kids meals... :sad2: I have a theory that Disney does that so adults won't eat of the kids menu ~ I could be wrong, I don't know. What I do know is it would be nice to be able to order a smaller portion, and that it's pretty mean of Disney to serve those chicken nuggets to kids...they have palates too!

Mmmmm Earl of Sandwich is a must do for us. The Caprice(sp?) is yummo! We got super lucky and now have a franchise only one hour away in San Antonio. Looking forward to your continued report.

Oh, the Caprice is another that I wanted to try, so many looked good! I had no idea there was an EOS near San Antonio, good news!

Have y'all tried the EoS in San Antonio? I lived near there for 6 years (only knew about the restaurant for 2, but whatever! lol) and somehow never found the opportunity to try it...

I think you are onto something with your kids meal theory!

My inlaws live in the Hill Country, I think in Boerne so I am gonna look up where the EOS is and maybe take everyone the next time we visit! I really liked that place!

What do you like at MK? It seems to be the one place I haven't found that good meal at, I have just gotten used to it being not good. I am sure I must be missing something...

And we will miss each other in Oct, we are going over Columbus Day weekend, busier then most Oct time frames, but less busy then we have seen in the past (I hope), we have thus far done Spring Break and the latest trip was the week before Christmas! So we are good at busy... BTW, how is BLT? We rented points there for Oct, any advise, I see you are an owner there...
we do enjoy both Cosmic Ray's and Pecos Bill's, moreso Cosmic Ray's for the ribs/chicken/soups and variety beyond burgers. But yes, it is lacking overall i think too in food choices. Of course I've only had LTT dinner, Crystal Palace breakfast and CRT breakfast/dinner there. I haven't tried Tony's or the Plaza yet. I used to like El Pirata y Perico when it was open more regularly, but now you rarely find it open. It was nice to get some mexican, something different.

I haven't tried Nine Dragons yet, but your review makes me want to on a future trip. We are already planning Teppan Edo for this October, so I'll save Nine Dragons for future, but i might at least try their fast food there one day for lunch or something.

Love Kaki Gori- it is so good- i have to have it every trip- even this past one when it was like 40 degrees out! :rotfl: There used to be a place near our house called Ice Delight- it was like an ice cream shop, but all they served was this yummy thinly shaved ice, just like Kaki Gori. like Kaki Gori, it wasn't just a regular snow cone, it had the extremely finely shaved ice, which makes a big difference. they had tons of flavors to choose from and i loved the place and it closed. so KG always reminds me of it!

Can't wait to hear what else you ate! great report so far!

So we decided to be crazy people and not take a mid day break, well DD6 decided for us, DH was hoping for a break.

So, I had already looked and saw that El Pirata was open until 3:00. DD6 loves Mexican, so I decided to take her here for an early dinner, DH and I were not hungry yet so we didn’t eat. DD6 had:
IMG_3913.jpg

A Chicken Burrito, off the regular menu. It had refried beans, rice, and chicken inside. You can also see it is HUGE! I did have to try a bite, it was yummy, and a bite was all she allowed me, she ate the rest up! I wish this place was open later, I would have loved this if I were hungry, and seeing as we haven’t liked much at MK so far, this was a shining star at MK. It was really good. I have also been told this place is seasonal, meaning it only opens sometimes. This makes me sad, it is really good, I wish they would rethink this all.

And now for the bottom line:

Would we recommend to a friend? Yes, but sadly would have to let them know it may not be open.

Would we eat here again? It will be the first thing I check next time for hours. I want to start a petition to have Disney keep this place open all the time, MK needs this!

Cost: $7.59 before tax, I lost my receipt so had to look this up online. It was HUGE and yummy, worth the price.
