just in case it comes. DH is that is, I am not!:o  I will wait till Monday when they have an updated report.

Stay safe and be careful Poohbear, sending PD your way and to all in the storm's path

I sincerely hope it misses us...sure, a "Hurricane Day" would be nice, but not if it ruins my plans at Universal Studios, or even just life at home. But you poor, FL East Coast! If it does hit us, ya'll will get the rough of it, that's for sure...not saying we won't get some nasty weather here, but, the first strike is always terrible.

I pray it misses us...and if it does, hope it misses poor Bermuda too!!!

Hey Faith at least your DH is doing something just in case. My DS asked my DH if he was going to board up the windows if it does come our way and he told him NO. We both work at a hospital and I have to be there during and he has to be there after and he's staying home. Is he NUTS are what:rolleyes:
So my sons a I will be out there tearing boards off the fence to place on the windows. I can't leave them at home with no covering on the windows. MEN

GOD HELP ME!!!

Basically, he is removing items from the back yard that could pose a threat to the other homes around us.:o I have not bought the canned goods yet, but, we do have propane for the Stove, and a Generator that will keep my Frigerator running.;) We learned a LOT from Andrew, and hope it will not be another. Piglet's Pal-don't worry, it will all come together, we were bording up 15 hours before Andrew HIT! Now, we have sliding awnings for my front Bay Windows, and the back- floor to Ceiling Windows are still covered from the last storm-Gordon I believe it was.;)

I just hope you all stay safe and that Isabel brings little to no harm to anyone.

I am keeping a close eye on this storm. It is stronger than Andrew was, but it is still so far away that it is hard to tell where it will go.

I am from Ft. Lauderdale, and this is the last thing that area needs. My family still lives there, so I suspect if it does come our way, I'll have a few hurricane "refugees" coming up to Tally.

Here in the Carolina's we are on the watch too. This one is scary looking!

We're watching this too.....It's very scary to think that this could be headed our way. We're about due for one to hit us here, we haven't had one in a long time.....I hope they know where it's going soon, we leave for UO in 14 days!

Poohbear DH is doing the same this weekend. I have a WS Saturday but will go to the store tomorrow since I need to anyway. If storm threatens we will board. If the DAMN thing hits So Dade again we are packing it in and moving! Can't take another 4 or 5 storm.

Pray for us in Florida, but also for North Carolina. They always seem to get hit hard!
I'm on the east coast here in Fl, so this one is looking frightening!
It's already a Cat. 5.
Scary.

We are waiting to get more information as well. Normally, I would not get so worried (nothing you can do to stop it), but I am supposed to go see my college freshman next weekend, and if the weather is bad I will have to cancel my trip. Did learn a thing or two from Hugo. Nothing can stop storm surge. Put things up high, not down low!

WEnt through Hugo also, Sumter, and learned, yes it can go far inland. I say all us Floridians head for DL for a DIS meet if it heads our way! :p

I've never been in a "real" hurricane. The few that ever reached New England had weakened so much by the time they came as far inland as we were (Hurricane Bob) it just blew down some branches. We've never even lost electricity due to a hurricane.

Being a Floridian now:D I know Hurricanes are something we have to get used to. Isobel is looking more and more frightening.

Just what do we need to do to prepare for Isobel if she continues to head to Fla??? We live near Orlando on a third floor apartment. HELP!

I saw "Hurricane" packs the other day at Publix. Should I just make my own????

Another worried Floridian here. :( And what is worse is that DH will have to be in work and I'll be left to deal with the house, getting out, smuggling my cat some where and taking care of my overly nervous MIL. I might be better off just letting the Hurricane do to me what it will. lol

Here is a link to FEMA that will give you some info. If this cat 5 hurrican heads this way, I would NOT want to be on a third story apartment building. I would head for a shelter. I went through Hugo and that was also a Cat. 5. They are nasty storms. If this one heads this way, I will NOT go through one again. I'm on the west side of Florida and I will head out of here.

Hurricanes

JustHolly, having seen what Andrew did, if it is a threat to you, I would leave. Make a motel reservation in some city which is out of the path of the storm, and go there. Or whatever to get out. I woul not want to be around for a cat. 5 storm, especially in a third story apartment.

And if your management tells you the buildings are built to hurricane code or something, I would not be quick to believe them. I know building in Miami has gotten a lot more...well, better, able to survive some winds...but I don't think the rest of the state is that way.

As far as supplies, have lots of water, canned goods that you can eat w/o cooking, a manual can opener, flashlight, battery operated TV and/or radio, extra batteries (get 'em now while you can) , any meds you can't go without, pet food if you have pets, and anything else you can think of that you must have. Oh, you might want to put any important legal papers in some kind of watertight container, and in the safest place in your home you can find. You likely won't have to worry about flooding, being on the third floor, but if the roof went, you'd want that stuff safe. Things of sentimental value too.

That's all I can think of! I'm sure there is more, though, if anyone would like to add to this!
