we did our one-night Platinum Package this past weekend and, yes, we will be going back this time next year to repeat it, even though the minimum stay jumps from one-night to three.

I was told point blank by the IPO that the minimum is going back to 3 nites because of the abuse by guests. My IPO agent told me he had a guest coming in for 2 weeks that had SIX one-nite plats booked during that stay. What a planning nightmare and I don't blame Disney for putting an end to it. So for that person...THANKS a LOT!

We loved staying at AKL again and decided not to do the parks this trip so we could enjoy the resort. We dined at Narcoosee's, Brown Derby, Jiko and Victoria and Albert's. BD was a bit disappointing in that our steak wasn't cooked well but V&A was worth the package by itself. We didn't get our Epcot tours due to the tank being closed---grrrrrrrrrrr...but it took some time pressure off us. We enjoyed the spa treatments.

As I said...we will reprise this trip next year. We are converts.

not dumb at all...

the platinum plan is a vacation package that includes dining, tours. recreation activites, spa treatments, Cirque du Soleil and probably a dozen other things I've forgotten.

here is a link to the plan for 2012. You must book a deluxe resort at rack rate to purchase a Platinum Package. In my opinion, yes, it's very expensive and, yes, it's worth it.

please feel free to ask any other questions. How else do we learn the tricks and secrets? ;)

I'm curious as to what all you guys squeezed in on a weekend trip. What tours and rec activities did you do? If you do a tour, does that require a park ticket too?

I would love to do a 3 day weekend with just DH :)

we intended this trip to be for rest and relaxation. We had 2 tours-Dolphins in Depth and Divequest scheduled but they were cancelled. We did the Wishes fireworks cruise, ate at Victoria & Alberts, did a spa treatment, and ate a LOT. We spent a little time in DHS.

We could have done other tours but we just didn't want to this trip. We also decided we'd skip La Nouba this trip because we saw it in October and we wanted to do something else.

We would be able to do a lot more ona 3 day package and I think we will book one for next December.

I am toying with the idea of doing this for me and dh for our anniversary this year. I'm trying to decide if it'd be cost-effiecient or if we could just do the tours we want and eat where we want for less. Numbers....

Ahhhh . Brandip22 - that is exactly the issue. I just did the 1 night Plat Plan as well - and you have to want to do those things to make it worthwhile. Otherwise it is just expensive self-torture.

So I jammed in a couple of tours, jetskiing, a facial, V&As, Fultons, La Nouba, PhotoPass CD etc Paid $800 and easily got more than that in services. However - as you say - it is a waste of money if you don't want to do those things. Whether there is enough.

And there are limitations - not all the tours are offered, most offerings don't accept children, not much happening on Sunday & Monday; and it has to fit in with your other bookings - say you have a discount package with limited nights etc. And when doing the thing - cause you are racing from booking to booking it is easiest done with a car

What are the differences between the Premium and Platinum Plans? Do both require the purchase of park tickets? What about AP holders?

The way the plan works is that you pay rack rate for the room + an add on per night per person price for the plan. I haven't looked at the 2012 rates - premium is cheaper, has less options included and you can stay at any disney property to get it. Platinum costs more, has more offerings (a beauty treatment, fireworks cruise, V&A dinner, PhotoPass CD) and you can only stay at deluxe resorts to get it.
As it is effectively a "dining plan" yes you do have to purchase a ticket. I purchased a one day ticket which I haven't used and will apply to future pruchase.

i definitely have to do the numbers...but i think we could get our money's worth over 3 days. And, yes, all packages require a ticket purchase.
