Randy is our guide too, and we think he's great. No pressure, but lots of good information. We went back and forth between 150 and 200 also, and ended up buying 200. About a month later, we added another 100 points. We've already talked about adding around 150 more at some point in the future. Points are a type of addiction ...

We started with the minimum, last year did an add-on of 100 points. Depending on what kind of accomodations you will need, we thought we could get away with a studio but after staying in a 2 bdrm I can't see staying in anything else?

It is debatable but IMHO if you plan to stay in a 2 bdrm for more than 1 week and only have 150 you'll be on the boards buying points. But thats ok too. But like everyone else says It's never enough!

Your decision is probably made up by now.....but since this was the first real week of school I haven't been on the board much this week and missed this thread.

We bought 170 points in 1999 as a compromise between 150 and 200 and expected, like you, to go to WDW every 18-24 months. We also added a 5th family member in 1999 after we first bought into DVC. Now that our first two girls are teen agers we are looking at reserving a 2 bedroom villa instead of a 1 bedroom or studio. And that requires more points. I have 210 pts to work with for next year and it's just not enough......so we're considering adding on in the near future to give us more flexibility.

Buy what you can afford, but do think towards the future. We tried.....we just didn't see how much MORE time we'd like to spend at WDW. Everytime we go...we love it more and want to be there longer. Go figure! Many of friends think we're nuts and that our trips should have the opposite effect (making us sick of WCW and thus take less frequest trips). Maybe DVC'ers have a special gene????

See if you like it first. You can always add more later. Smaller contracts do better as resales. Price/point will go down in the future.

We wanted to catch a last minute trip in Nov. and stay at our home of BCV, but they are all booked. All we could get is OKW. I am trying to tell hubby it will be fine, but he had his heart set on staying at our home resort our first visit.

I can't believe it is (sort-of) official!!

You will love OKW..... no fears there.... You could go on the waitlist for BCV, you never know, as more and more people buy in, rooms become availible.

BTW How many points did you settle on???

We went for the 200 points. And with the current "special" our month is April.

What do you mean with

I know we will be happy at OKW, but we were looking forward to BCV.

Since BCV is still selling, it means that all of the rooms have not yet been turned over into DVC inventory. As the resort sells, those rooms are converted. Until then they are for general rental through CRO.

Put another way, a 1-B/R at BCV from Sep 1, 2002 to Aug 31, 2003 (1-year) would require 12,850 points. So, for every 12,850 points sold, another 1-B/R has been 'purchased' by members and is turned over into DVC inventory.

They turn them over in blocks. So if a block of rooms is turned into DVC inventory, they become available for DVC members to book on points. If they turn over a block before your scheduled vacation, then a waitlist could come through.

Congratulations on your new purchase! You will have so much fun playing with those 200 points as you plan lots of DVC trips.

I'd also say to go to OKW without hesitation. After I became a BWV owner, my first trip was to OKW mostly because I wanted to save points. We LOVED it there! I'm sure I'll be back there someday, but first I plan to stay at my 2 home resorts (BWV & BCV) which I've still never even seen!

Are you on the waiting list for BCV, just in case something opens up for your nights?
