Why did they switch from Disco to Country-Rock? Josh actually picked the wrong song - he's supposed to be showing off his voice, not stumbling to murmer every word of an impossible song.
The whole show really bothered me. I would've rather listened to Disco.
And even hailing from the Great State of Texas, I own not a single country and western cd/tape/album/8 track. Bleccchhh.

Hey AP, how do you really feel? I actually liked last night but I think it's because of where I live and there is like five country stations for every one other station. lol I can't always hide from it.

Still there were other songs from Garth Brooks just as upbeat that Josh could have done (Standing outsside the Fire), yet I give him props for even trying that. Plus his energy was awesome. And did I mention that he looked good in that hat??!!??!!

Since I am confessing today: I also own CDs by Martina McBride, George Straight (I love the movie Pure Country), and probably a couple others that I am not thinking of right now.

I would have to agree that the show last night was one of the worst AI's that I have ever seen. Next to 205 the show had no emotion to it, a total bore. I am a Clay supporter, I thought that his voice sounded very good last night but the song did nothing for me – no song really did. I like to think that I have an open mind, I love the music of Springsteen, Steven Tyler (HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM TODAY), The Who – as you can see music that is hard and still has an edge when the artist does a ballad – but never would I own a CD with the music performed last night. Nothing against Country music, it just was not inspirational to me. I just don’t understand how these kids can come out and sing such songs when they know that they will be voted based upon their performance. Really now, does Rickey really think that the “AI teens” would actually buy an entire CD devoted to his type of music, he would be better show-cased on an Easy Listening station.

I think if they would have actually chosen songs like the THEME (country rock) the show would have been so much better. But they didn't stay with the theme because people hear the word country and get all freaked out. There is bumpkin country but then there is good 'ole drives it to your soul country. I think that's what they were looking for last night but then let them all get away with doing something they were comfortable with instead of sticking to the theme. The producers should all be slapped. And that would make Simon so proud.

Now before everyone writes me off as some country bumpkin weirdo I listen to ALL types of music (minus rap and heavy hip hop which is NOT music).

Heck - I was EXPECTING the females to do Shania Twain!!! - Songs like "Who's bed have your boots been under" or "Man - I Feel like a woman" would have been GREAT from those ladies...

Yep - I like Garth as well, but what about "Friends in low Places" or "Don't Rock the Juke Box"?

I am not a huge country fan or anything - but the odd song I like is because they are *upbeat* and *fun*...I think beside Ruben I didn't feel that at all last night...

I also have to say that as much as I dis-liked last night's show (not 'cause it was country, but because on a whole, they were really, really bad at it) It really proved to me how many of them really suck. I mean the whole point of this competition is to *throw different types of music at 'em and see what they do with the ball*...and last night majority of them showed that they can't catch a Country Rock ball for nuthin...

I also discovered something last night - Kim L is only good for slow songs. I mean the one time that she did upbeat was *Heat Wave* and it was horrible...Clay, although repeating the same *type* of song last night from the week previous, has proved that he can sing both tempos when he sang *Sugar Pie-Honey Bunch*...

But Madonna they didn't even have a clue about what qualifies as country rock. And for this I blame the producers for not making it clear and/or not making them stick to it. Yes it was probably the worst AI yet, but it had potential. And as for being able to sing any genre, I'm sure there are a lot of "stars" out there that can't sing all styles.

I couldnt agree with you more Jas - furthermore since *Olivia* showed up, the idols probably had to change their songs at the last minute, which only made matters worse for them.

As for "stars that can't sing all styles*why is it that stars who have been around for such a long time (and by long I mean more then 10 years) are still around? ...Because of the diversity in their music. They have survived the different decades of music, because they can successfully change thier sound with the times...

Why do groups like The Spice Girls and New Kids on the Block die out so soon? Because their *gimmick* is over, once the style of music fades - so do they...(and in those 2 cases thank ZEUS that their gimmick is Buh-bye...)

Since I'm piping in a little late here, most of what I wanted to say has already been said. I don't know country too well, not one of my favorite genres, but where was the Allman Brothers or the Oak Ridge Boys? Olivai Newton-John was the guest judge, she did a little country rock in her day.

I was all ready to bid Julia adieu (can I say that? It's a french word ), I have to put up with her one more week and hope that Corey goes bye-bye. I'm so glad Paula is impressed with his hgh register, cause that's all he's got.

From the WDWWDS (minus our fearless leader)...Julia DeMato - Buh-Bye....sucks to be you!!! maybe she can audition for *Titanic: the Ship is Still Sinking*, I mean that *sums up her career* in a title and she has great means to stay afloat...

(hey - we finally have some members who correctly idenitfied a eliminated idol...I'll give you all a point update before next week's show)

psst did anyone else have a HUGE grin ear to ear when they left Kimberly and Julia....lol...I mean - ANY intelligent person would know that American DID NOT ditch Kimberly over Julia...rotflmao...

and - I just want to say that even though I am Canadian - the Proud to be an American sung by the idols - gave me shivers and brought tears to my eyes...God Bless the USA...

For all my complaining and whining and apparent dislike for Ms. Julia I actually feel bad for her. With who was in the bottom three with her, she had to have known it was her time. Funny how one can flip-flop around. I started feeling bad that I was getting on someone I didn't even know. For all I know she could be a very sweet girl who is just unsure of herself. Much like myself. It took me too long to realize it though. I was impressed with how she handled herself at the end, she made it through her song without breaking down.

And yes I did cry at Proud to be an American at the end.
