I don't know if this has been posted here before but I just saw it and thought it was amazing.

Various sizes available here:

It is impressive ... but not entirely accurate:

  • Shows boat service between CR & MK, which does not exist, but omits boat among CR, WL, & FW
  • Shows bus between TTC & DTD
  • Suggests that buses to GF also stop @ Poly, which is not always the case
  • Shows bus between MK & FW
  • Omits FW internal bus serving WL
  • Shows boats between SSR & OKW (discontinued when THVs reopened)
  • Omits walking path from SSR to DTD
  • Shows boats from PO docking at PI, rather than Marketplace
  • Shows buses from ASR to AK stopping @ BB
  • Shows no service between AKL & BB (AKL to DHS bus stops @ BB)
  • Shows the International Gateway & it's walking path on the wrong side of the canal (OK, that's a nit)
  • Omits walking path from CS to BB/Winter-Summerland to ASR
Granted, some of the omissions may be due to space constraints or limitations of the graphics selected.

It does show just how complex is the WDW transportation system, and why we have the 2nd or 3rd largest bus fleet in the state of FL, not to mention the monorails & watercraft. And all within less than 40 square miles.

Another potential error: it implies that all resorts share transportation to destinations (e.g. DTD). While SOME resorts share buses, most do not......

joelkfla, thank you so much for your corrections.

I have made a new version of the map, which you can find here:

(I am not allowed to post URLs yet as I am a new member).

Please let me know if you find any other errors.

Yes, unfortunately this is a concession I've had to make to save space. If each resort would get its own line to every destination then there would be WAY more lines and the map would be very messy. Now each park has its own color and the lines split off to the different resorts, which I hope still makes sense.

I had communicated with Arthur recently, and this led to his updated map. Since I can post URLs, here is where the updated map is located:

Arthur, thanks for being so responsive to the new information. Even the walking path from Beach Club to the IG was updated!

to those in the know - are there still three active boat docks at Downtown Disney? I had suggested this one was worth double-checking.

Thanks for passing on the info.

Yes, there are still 3 docks at DTD. The PI dock was closed during the Paradiso restaurant construction, but has been open for over a year now.

  • The boat to POFQ & POR docks at Marketplace.
  • The boats to OKW & SSR (separate routes) dock at PI.
  • The DTD Water Taxi (aka Water Shuttle) serves all 3 docks. The Water Taxi routes vary by time of day.

I have made a few more changes.

very cool and VERY well received when I posted among transportation people on facebook! A couple edits for you:
1. The monorail lines are reversed in the map. The inner loop indicated by the gold color goes clockwise MK-->CR-->TTC-->PR-->GF
Express is the outer beam and goes counter clockwise.
2. The red flag boat goes from MK to Wilderness lodge only
3. the green flag boat goes from MK to FW only
4. The blue route does not operate circular and reverse directions anymore. That was stopped after Bay Lake Tower was built. Instead, both launches meet at the Contemporary, with one headed to WL and the other headed directly to FW. So they effectively go opposite directions around the lake, meeting back at CR. It moves the same amount of people in the same amount of time and has the same wait overall at each dock, it just changes the psychology of it all. I'm not sure how you want to indicate that, maybe just take out the bit about them going in a direction and reversing.

great job though! VERY cool and it actually makes me proud to see our operation from the big picture!

Best way to fix this one bay be just to swap inner and outer loops - the clockwise loop (gray) is indeed the one that includes stops at the resorts. The only difference is that it's *inside* the gold loop, not outside it.

I'm trying to picture what you're saying here - are there two separate boats that shuttle between CR and one of the two resorts and don't go at all to the other? Is there any route that goes between WL and FtW in either direction? Or does going from one to the other require going to the CR and transferring to the other boat? (If so, that would seem less convenient than the old setup, which was oriented toward getting guest to Chef Mickey's and the monorail in the morning, and getting them to the Hoop de Doo in the evening.)

Previously, both boats traveled in the same direction around the loop, evenly spaced apart. The direction they traveled changed at 3 p.m.

Now the 2 boats travel the loop in opposite directions, so there is always one going in each direction. The depart CR at the same time, and pass one another half way around.

zulemara, thank you for your comments.

I have once again made a few changes and published the latest version here:

you're welcome, and thanks for creating this! It's VERY cool, the transportation geeks out there will eat it up!

got it - that system makes much more sense than what I was picturing. My guess is that the other crossing would happen when the clockwise boat is getting close to Ft. Wilderness.

Interesting that they synchronize the routes so that they meet up at the Contemporary. Trying to figure out what advantage this might give. Maybe if you realize you forgot something and needed to go back to WL or FtW. (Seems like that's probably *not* the reason.)

Thank you so much arthurdewolf - this is fantastic!

yeah sorry I didn't really explain it very well. The reason is because with the boats going only one direction after BLT, we were constantly leaving guests on the dock at the Contemporary due to the increase in number of guests utilizing the blue route. By having them meet at the CR and have one boat dedicated to "next stop WL" and one dedicated to "next stop FW" we're able to make sure when the boats get to CR, the dock gets cleared(or nearly cleared) by splitting the guests into their final destinations. The downside is if you miss the boat, you don't see another one for 24 minutes. However, this actually isn't any different from before where you would see 1 boat, not get on it due to capacity, and have to wait 12 minutes for the 2nd one(this is assuming a perfect cycle).

Likewise, with FW and WL, you see no boats for about 15 minutes or so, then see 2, 1 right after the other. This is beneficial around HDD time since 2 boats appear in a row and can usually clear the dock of the guests who came from HDD and are going back to their respective resort.

Of course, it's REALLY all the same in terms of overall wait time no matter which dock you're at. It's just a psychological thing and the bottleneck that BLT created which prompted the change in operation. It does work well though.

Of course, I'm scared to see what the GF DVC is going to do to the gold route. They think monorails will handle the load...we'll see how that goes when rails break down and lightning shuts down our launches. Then maybe they'll determine it's worth it to build a new cruiser, but I digress...

I can not wait to show this to my husband! He's smack dab in the middle of exams right now for his transportation engineering program:thumbsup2
He'll get such a kick out of this!!
He's often mentioned how neat it would be to move down to Florida and work for Disney transportation planning.
