WDW Toy broken - can anything be done?

My friend just got back from a week at WDW - one of her sons got a light thingie when he was there - it spins around inside a glass/plastic thing (kinda like those things that spin around with propellers, but this one was contained in some sort of "dome" - sorry it's hard for me to describe, since I haven't actually seen this one, but I know what she's talking about) - anyway - it has stopped working (they just came back on Wed!) - it said Walt Disney World on it, so it isn't something that can be replaced at the DS (and we don't have one here anyway)

is there anything that can be done? If so, who can she contact? She thinks it's a lost cause, but I think Disney would want to make this right! Her son is pretty disappointed -

Thanks!

Carol

Did she replace the batteries? Those things are played with constantly while waiting to be sold.

If she has the receipt--she can check it for a phone number--or really any receipt. Otherwise...just call Disney and ask for merchandising I think it is.

I have bought things at the parks that broke and I returned them the next time I went to the parks and as long as I got the same thing I mave never needed a receipt.
I think what you are describing is one of those hand held light up things that you see being sold as it gets dark. The newest ones have LED lights inside , not like the older ones that they still sell that have plastic things on them that spin around like a fan.
If she is going ack to the pakrs soon she can bring it back, if not she can call WDW merchandising and explain to them, I am not sure if they will send her a new one but I relly think they will. It doesn't hurt to call and find out.

Thanks for the replies - this was their first visit to Disney World, and although they had a wonderful time - they won't be returning anytime soon (have to pay this trip off first! LOL) - we might go this summer, but that's 4 months away and he just got this toy - so I'd hate for him to have to wait so long.

My bet is the batteries are burned out. There should be two small screws obviously holding the little door shut someplace on it, it probably takes two "AA"'s. The ones they have in them when you buy them are generally cheap and only last for a little bit. If that doesn't do the trick, call the number on teh bottom of the receipt.

Just an FYI-If you buy something at WDW & have the receipt, you can return it to a Disney Store location. I bought one too many sweatshirts on one trip & took it back to our local DS with no problem. I did have the receipt and they just credited my card. I has originally purchased it at World of Disney in DtD.

I know this doesn't help the OP but wanted to mention it! :)

Not any more now that TDS are owned by the Childrens Place. They don't handle any returns from Disney World or the catalogue.

I just asked at my local store, and they are still taking WDW and catalog returns, within 60 days. I asked about a NYC 5th Ave item, which is the same as a WDW purchase.......... and thats what they told me.

I guess every store is different, I checked last night when I went to buy DD and they do take WDW returns.

I think I have the exact toy you are describing. It is a plastic sphere and inside there are spinning lights that make a pattern- mine is broken too. Something came unhinged inside of the globe. We got a good 3 or 4 months out of ours though.
Have your friend call the WDW merchandise number and explain her situation. 407-363-6200 maybe they can help her or point her in the right direction.
Good luck!

I have had two problems with things we bought or had bought for us from WDW....

1. We bought my nephew a toy, a Buzz Lightyear remote control car, called directly to WDW and they shipped us a new one after verfiying we stayed there..I was amazed!

2. We were married at Wilderness Lodge, my wifes aunt bought us a very nice, glass picture frame with a Mickey and Minnie engraved, with our wedding date and our names, she spent well over $100 on it.. Problem was, she missed the date by one day and spelled my name John instead of Jon... It was completely the aunts fault, but when I called WDW and asked about getting a replacement, they sent us a new one at no charge!!!! I was more than amazed!!!!

I work at a Disney Store. We are still taking Park and Catalog returns until we are further notified. You'll need a sale reciept though. You can still call the park's merchandise number (found on the bottom of any shop reciept) and there's decent chance they'll replace the light spinner, especially if they stayed at one of the park's resorts.

The 5th Avenue store in NYC was actually purchased by Park Attractions and will continue to operate as a Disney Company. It is now considered part of the chain of "World of Disney" stores that are found in Downtown Disney in Orlando and Anaheim. :earsboy:

The merch number for Disney is:407-363-6200.

Good luck :)

I had purchased my son a remote control test track vehicle at Epcot last fall and put it away to give to him at Christmas. He got it Christmas morning and played with it a few days. It stopped working in forward and would only go in reverse after a few days. My son was heartbroken - he had wanted to take it for show and tell, so I contacted WDW Merchandising Mail Order via email at wdw.mail.order@disneyworld.com to ask them if there was anything I could do. I explained to them what happened and how much my son loved the car. I also told them we had bought many things from them before and have never had a problem with anything before now and that my son was heartbroken he couldn't take it to show and tell. I also told them my son was not rough on his toys which he is not, he has never broken anything. They sent me a very nice email back stating that if I would like a replacement vehicle I just needed to fax my receipt to them and they would send a replacement vehicle within 2 weeks. I faxed them a copy of the invoice and got a call the next day from the person who had emailed me confirming she got it and told me she would be sending a replacement vehicle at no additional cost to me. I got it a little over a week later and my son definitely plans to take it for his next show and tell day. I told my son Mickey sent him the replacement vehicle and he still is telling everyone who comes over to visit that Mickey sent him a new one.
