If you were to go to WDW in late June just to relax and enjoy the resort, which resort would you choose and why? Has anyone done this? We would like to just swim, rent bikes, boats, have nice meals. Just really enjoy the resort and what it has to offer. We did this on our last trip in Nov at WL, but only for 3 days and we loved it. I was thinking to do a WDW trip in 2006, last week of June just to take it easy. Should I expect the resorts to be really crowded with no chairs at the pool or no room to swim?

Honestly, I'd go to VB rather than one of the Orlando resorts. We just got back and it was one of our most relaxing vacations ever. Might be tough to get a room at this point though...

If you are determined to stay in Orlando...I'd chose SSR(pool, spa, DTD restaurants) or BCV (pool). Since you are already going to SSR in Nov...then try BCV or even BWV (more restaurants). BCV is great for the pool.

I would choose HH. Or if I were set on Orlando I would definitely try SSR. Never been there but it seems a perfect situation to check it out.

We stayed at SSR in Nov for a day, prior to a cruise. I dont know if I could go any longer w/o going into the parks. I was going crazy, wanting to go into the parks but just didnt have the time. For this reason alone, if I was planning on avoiding the parks, I would try VB or HH. But if you want to go to Orlando, we did like SSR.

We are doing a similar vacation in August. Although its not that we won't go to the parks, it is wicked hot and I get really grumpy :teeth: . So it'll be only early mornings and out by noon for us. We chose BCV because we love SAB, but also because we can walk around by BWV, rent boats, bikes, etc.

Too funny.
That describes me to a tee (esp the "wicked hot"-as a former RI resident, makes me homesick ;) )

On to the OP question. If I were going to WDW in June, when it is wicked hot, I would stay at VWL. Not just because it is my favorite resort, but because the resort itself just feels cool. It looks cool-dark, woodsie. It seems cool-with the lake and all. I would stay there and get the bike and boat plan and spend my hot days on that beautiful lake. Sounds like so much fun!

I second Wilderness Lodge! Ample opportunities for boating and biking, options at Fort Wilderness nearby, and a great pool that never feels as crowded to me as Stormalong Bay, plus a quiet pool as well. Three good choices for restaurants, also Trail's End at Fort Wilderness, and an easy boat ride to MK if you change your mind about the park.

We did this exact thing the first year we bought into DVC. Couldn't wait to use those points, but couldn't afford to do the whole parks, etc. thing since we had just done it(the trip that made us decide to buy). We stayed at WLV during this trip and had a great time.

I am soooo glad to read this. DS13 & I fly to WDW Sat Aug 13th. We're not planning on activating our APs until Tues the 16th. (I want them available until the 16th next Aug)
We're staying at VWL Aug 13-19, WL Aug 19-21 and BCV Aug 21-27
Our first few days we're planning on GF dinner & pool, Contemp brkfst & pool, Downtown Disney, Typhoon Lagoon (have passes on old hoppers), visiting AKL, Poly brkfst & pool then activating our APs. We're also taking a night to visit FW, eat at Trails End and meet other DISers.
While at BCV we're planning lots of pool time. Boardwalk brkfst & pool

Its our first mother/son WDW vacation and our first 2wk vacation - Im planning on lots of relaxation! :Pinkbounc

We are spending 5 nights in June and are going to MK one day and a water park on another day. We have done this the past 2 years. The parks are just too hot for us to enjoy (which is why we return every November) so we stay at WL and enjoy the quiet pool and everything else the other posters mentioned. We have stayed at WL the past 2 summers, so this will be our first summer trip in the villas...........and I can't wait!!!  :hourglass

My parents just returned today from a 6 day trip of relaxing at the Beach Club Villas. They loved it!

We got them hooked when we took them with us to BCV over Thanksgiving last year. They bought a BCV re-sale as soon as we returned home in December. The listened to the information at SSR, but instantly loved BCV.

This last week they laid by the pool (both quiet and SAB) and just thought about where to enjoy their evening meal each day. We all really like the Boardwalk area so much. Plenty of activity to keep all busy. I'd say go for it at either BCV or BWV. :wave2: :wave2:

Everyone has excellent points and all are worthy of your time-

VB or HH would be better since they are more meant to be stand alone places to stay.

OKW- To relax and kick back, enjoy the spacious rooms and home feel (bikes and boats too)

BCV or BWV - to have restaurant and shopping options and to bike/boat the boardwalk..possible views of Illuminations

SSR - for the Spa, walk to DTD. Will probably be the least crowded

VWL for the coolness etc (never been cant really comment here)

No matter where you go, you will have a great time...relax, enjoy!

I think I would stay at VWL for all of the above mentioned reasons. Although if you don't want to stay there again, I'd say BCV. I just think Epcot would be too tempting :)

Thanks for all the replies!
DH and I are the kind of people that hate crowds and extreme heat. We love WDW and the atmosphere of the resorts so we would love to just do a relaxation trip there instead of HH or VERO.(we're doing vero this year) Although I say we wouldn't go into the parks, but if we were to choose BCV, or BW, it would be really hard not going to Epcot! When we were at WL we had no desire to go to the MK, even with our small kids. DD was happy at the pool, so were we! So, maybe WLV so I know I won't have a desire to go to the parks LOL!!!
Any more suggestions, keep them coming!!

I have done this exact thing twice. Once we went to OKW and once (this Feb) to SSR. Of the 2, we really preferred OKW. We could spread out in the rooms, sit out on the balcony a lot, and wander the grounds. We also "pool hopped" to every hot tub on the grounds (there are several). Just loved it! OKW is so beautiful.
We didn't enjoy SSR quite as much - some of that may have been weather, it was way too cold to sit on the balcony or wander around.

I would also like to try a tripo like that at VWL. The atmosphere is just lovely.

Even though we say we don't care if we go into the parks or not, we usually end up going one day because it's either rainy or too cool or too cloudy to be at the pool or we have a guest that hasn't been to WDW. One of these days, we'll follow through and stay out of the parks.....yeah, someday.....

My choice is probably BCV because we love SAB. Hurricane Hannah's and Beaches & Cream are so convenient to the pool area, too. I love walking and jogging around Crescent Lake too! VWL would be my second choice. Even though we've never stayed there, it just seems so peaceful and relaxing everytime we've visited there.

I'm sure you'll have a great time at whichever DVC resort you choose!

Wilderness Lodge Villa!!

We did this last year at Wilderness Lodge Villa in a 2-br unit. It was great. We rented watermice, bikes, took the boat to Chef Mickey for a leisure character breakfast. Sat by the marina watching Wishes. Went to the camp fire, at at Trail End(a very good bargain at Disney). Went around Poly and GF and ate at Ohanas, went to Port Orlean Riverside for the Catch and Release, we caught turtles :) Took the minature golf at both Fantasia, and Winter Summerland. Went to DD just browsing. Took the lodge tour. It was a lot of fun.

The more we go, the less we go for the rides. Disney resorts are the best :sunny:

I would have to say the beach club great pool and lots of restuarants to choose from. animal kingdom lodge would also be a good choice. lots
of pool activities, arcade, story telling and two great resturants. I also found it VERY relaxing :earboy2:

I would pick either BCV or VWL, for all of the mentioned reasons. BCV would get the slight advantage because of the fantastic pool.
