Hello,

I will be down in Orlando for business right before I leave for mexico for a week, with a day between when my business ends and the day I need to leave for Mexico. If I fly straight from MCO to CUN there is a good chance my company will pick up that ticket since they would need to fly me back from Orlando anyway (plus WDW!). It doesn't make sense to fly my family down for one day either! I'm a bit apprehensive about going to WDW alone, any tips?

Thanks!

If this 5' nothing happily married female can fly from Nebraska to Orlando and spend a full week on a solo trip to Disney World, you can do one day :)

Your family will know you are doing this so ask their advice on what to do without them. Maybe just take in Epcot's World Showcase and walk around and have snacks for the afternoon. Maybe go on a ride your family doesn't like but you do or something you've always wanted to try. Maybe just walking around Magic Kingdom, riding nothing and looking at the detail of the design.

I have done Disney solo and no one looks at you like you have two heads. On one solo trip, I rode Peter Pan's Flight (my husband does not like this one at all) and when I told the seater person, he, with a smile on his face, said "so, you couldn't get anyone to go on this with you?" and I replied, "I didn't want anyone to come on this with me". He laughed, gave me a high-five and then pointed at me and shouted, "this here is the girl!".

I did week-long solo trips several times before I moved here! It's a lot of fun. Most people are too caught up in their own trip to even notice that you're by yourself, and you get to do whatever you want without having to listen to anyone else complain about what they want to do!

Now that I live nearby, I go to the parks solo on my days off from work all the time. I just made plans to go to Epcot this afternoon - I want some of Biergarten's pretzel bread! Yesterday I went to MK at opening and rode Space Mountain six times in a row, and then left the park. :)

Solo trips are fun! If I had only one day, I'd pick Epcot, but that's completely up to you. Have a great time.

Thanks All! I appreciate the encouragement! I'm not sure if I will extend my stay at the Hard Rock (where my conference is) or find somewhere cheaper near WDW. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I also have very much enjoyed my solo days in the parks. All the magic you want, without having to check with anyone on what to do next! Enjoy!

If it were me, for one night, go for Polynesian or Grand Floridian! Especially if work is taking care of the travel!

LOVE my solo trips! You can do as much or as little as you want. Don't feel awkward about it, you'll never see any of those people again, so why not have some fun! :)

If you are, for your one day, just going to Disney World in the morning and then driving back to the hotel at night, then staying at the Hard Rock wouldn't be bad. However, if you want/need to return to the hotel, then go nearer to Disney World since Hard Rock isn't an easy commute to make more than to get there and to come back once.

The best!

Just did a solo trip last week for 4 days/3 nights. It's soooo fun to be on your own schedule and do exactly what YOU want and eat where you and sleep when YOU want.

Saw quite a few people walking by themselves...no issues.

It's fun to strike up a convo with a stranger in line or in the pool or in the monorail/bus

Even more fun with I talk to a dad with 4 kids there and he's like WOW you're here alone...NO KIDS!?!? MUST BE AMAZING!!!! :jumping1::jumping1:

I wish. The extra day or two will be on my dollar. I am currently thinking of either staying in one of the values for a night or two (art of animation is looking good) or going the even cheaper route and staying at some junker motel near WDW. I haven't decided yet, but it seems the February promotions have been traditionally offered in October. So I'll wait and see.

It also depends on what rate they offer us to extend our days at the Hard Rock. Usually, since there is a large group of us they'd give us a good rate to extend through the weekend or something like that...but then renting a car or Ubering to WDW seems like a pain.

Going solo is awesome, I've been on solo trips about 5 times and loved every minute of it. If it were me, I'd go to AK in the morning and then Epcot in the afternoon for lunch, rounding off the day at MK to catch Wishes. You'll have a great time, you might even get hooked on going solo!

Not sure when your trip or what your budget is, but stay onsite. especially if it falls within the current fall room discount offer. I did my first solo trip last year during F&W (I tacked on a few days in front of a conference in Tampa) and it was great! I stayed at POFQ, which was not super expensive with the discount. I've never stayed at a value resort, so can't comment, but a mod is perfect for a solo trip.
I would spend the day at Epcot. It's kind of like 2 parks between Future World and World Showcase without having to pay for a park hopper ticket. Nobody cares if you are by yourself and there is plenty to see, eat, and drink (if you are into that). The foreign students who staff the pavilions at WS are always willing to chat. Try to ride the Test Track - if you haven't gotten a FP, there is the solo riders line which moves relatively quickly.

I'd love to stay at a moderate resort, but I am trying to keep it cheapish due to the Mexico vacation being the very next week. I am thinking that the AoA is my best option right now.

Also, I'm now pretty excited to try this solo. Hence my new signature :D

Er - no. If you are going from the Hard Rock to a cheap hotel near Disney and then to Mexico, well, er, you probably won't enjoy the cheap motel near Disney. I've stayed in just about all of them there and, well, Hard Rock and Mexico compared to a Disney value or a cheap motel outside of Disney - Disney hands down!

POP is also a great choice... excellent location and dedicated bus service, and for a one-day-stay transportation time is important! I go solo all the time and love it! Enjoy!
