If you have an ADR, and you are asymptomatic, you then put the entire restaurant, and everyone THEY go home to at risk.
this is what I'm thinking all along. I keep seeing people (online and IRL) saying " I stayed at xxx on the dates of xxxx and felt very safe b/c there were very few people there on vacation also..... But what about the people who are obligated to be there b/c of the vacationers??? (Not debating the income needed part here) the staff, the workers, all the people that MUST be in contact with random travelers (could be from anywhere) ??? All of that includes interactions also, and no one truly knows what the staff does once they're off the clock,or what that travelers may be bringing along with them as far as spread of germs...
What I'm thinking is purely from the health concern side of things... and I realize factoring in jobs is important, but at what cost, certain jobs like these? It's the travel industry as a whole right now that I have problems with. And I don't have the answers either. Just thinking.

Yeah but all those people working at walmart, fast food drive throughs, grocery stories are on the front lines everyday. You have to balance risk vs society functioning.

I don't ever assume any woman is pregnant.
That said, I'd note women have been allowed to work or relax while expecting for some years now.
Going out to packed WDW during a COVID epidemic and riding mine train while expecting seems safe, lol.

I realize that. I still can't make up my mind on this as far as economics go, but I know a few things- grocery stores are pretty much necessary, so folks working there should be compensated and treated like the heros they are... drive thrus are disgusting IMHO and 100% an unneccessary thing to have kept open.(and exposing people) WDW is a huge employer ,I get that, but it's SO NOT necessary to life. (it's necessary to a paycheck for those workers however) Society functioning,to me equals we have what's necessary,b/c we have no alternative...(altho many groceries adapted with curbside orders etc) that twitter pic is a clear example of of why I have this mental dilemma. Again, I'm more concerned with spread of disease in my thoughts than economics at the moment.
I think that pic illustrates (in a horrible way) a trend that's happening all over the USA (I see it here where I live) in groups getting together (for whatever reason, not separating a crowded protest from a backyard bash right now) with absolutely no thought to the fact that this is still a real and terrible danger. WDW (and UNI) is just a GIANT magnifying glass picture of what's going on everywhere I look. And it's scary.

But I mean people have to eat and work. And as far as I know there hasn't been a second government payout for June (I haven't gotten one) and we are already in July. How are people, not working supposed to survive?

You know why it's being posted........

Same with the protest nonsense. Some people have an agenda to push.
Yup, not condemning large gatherings (whether it be protests, conventions or tennis tournaments) is pushing an agenda. They are all highly risky and irresponsible behavior in this COVID pandemic.

Reporters are generally in an uncontrolled environment.
Election speeches are often in a controlled environment. It's easier to socially distance.
It's possible to make reasonable adult decisions based on the situation.
My point was you can understand the field reporters wearing masks. The speakers at a podium would also be understood wearing a mask.

I don’t understand the point of this thread anymore. We get it - some people very adamantly think Disney is foolish for opening, while others still feel safe going. Disney is going to do what they’re going to do, and this thread is just talking in circles now.

I wouldn't hate on that much as at least we can have "negative" discussions here without mods locking threads. I came over from reddit, if you say one negative thing the mods lock everything down. This place has been a breath of fresh air even with the circles.

My wife is a nurse practitioner working with cancers of the blood. Her hospital NEVER stopped any treatments. Sorry to hear your friends hospital took that path :(
Yeah, that's what I was wondering too! I don't know of any hospitals here who have stopped cancer treatments. They have certainly changed their policies with much more screening, prohibiting non-patient guests, doing as much as possible by telemedicine, etc, etc, etc. But their treatments have continued normally -- especially chemo and radiation. I think the only interruption has been for patients who have tested positive.

We have a friend that was in the middle of chemo, and radiation for cancer...when this started, all of sudden it was considered non-essential for her treatments...She was in between rounds when this started, so she has not been able to have any treatment since, I think the middle to end of February... she went back to her doctor last week... and unfortunately it has spread... so she has decided to enjoy what time she has left...now they are saying we need to get you back in treatments, and its of the utmost importance, she told the doctor, for the last 4 months my life and treatments were not important and considered non-essential, I was considered non-essential.... she said the doctor just sat there with a blank look on his face...and said nothing... she said that she just got up and left... he did call her and ask her to reconsider... she has another appointment next week... she said that most likely she is just going to enjoy what time she has left... now she is like my hair is growing out, and I'm not sick every second...i have some energy, it might just be better to go this way...
The thing is and that she is so angry about, when she was first diagnosis... that the doctors pushed that she needed to start right away, and complete all the treatments, it was of the utmost importance... so then the virus comes along and the life saving treatment she needs is consider non-essential and in her thinking... her life is consider non-essential...

How can this happen.... How can they withhold life saving treatments... Every life is important...

Oh this is heartbreaking - I'm so sorry for your friend. As several others have said, it's really unusual to hear cancer treatments being stopped. My sister was in chemo through the end of April (when she was scheduled to end anyway) and one of my best friends is a chemo nurse and she's been just as busy as ever. I hope your firend is able to either recover or find peace for the last portion of her life. And frankly, if I were her family, I'd be talking to some medical malpractice attorneys.

You're missing my point. I said it makes sense to me now. But realistically how long can Canada remained closed to the US and other countries? And when you reopen, there WILL be more cases. It's the nature of this virus and movement.

It is a great immediate plan. It's a terrible long term plan. And I hope these countries are preparing for when those borders do reopen and the virus cases rise.

They can remain close for as long as they want. It boils down to their perception of how we’re dealing with COVID, which isn’t all that good.
