But so many things that supply work for ppl which you said is essential relies on ppl participating in things they don’t need...like travel.
Yes, I get that too.... and I'm not 100% against all businesses opening, but theme parks seem like a roll of the dice to me. I get that they provide jobs etc. And I understand that locally, some folks live in Florida, and want to do stuff near their homes. It's the overall picture I'm concerned about, the travel part. Yes,it's bad for certain industries, but Life outweighs money. So I'm back to essential vs. not essential.

this is the difference - you're comparing two different things. Weighing the benefits to the risks, what will we choose?
1----- Work is essential, we all need to pay our bills, etc, so we MUST find a way to continue working as safely as possible (and then, staying away from others unless taking precautions, b/c the NECESSARY work means possible exposure and consequences)
2---- Play/travel etc is NOT ESSENTIAL. It is fun,and MANY of us love it,but it isn't an essential thing- not at all. I can take a day, relax somewhere near home. Is it as fun as a trip to WDW? NOPE. But a trip to WDW could bring so much damage to others I interact with in my life, that I can easily forgo it for a while. It's a LOT of chances being taken, for something that I don't really NEED.
That to me is the difference.

My main point is that I’m tired of the grandma line. Essential employees also have grandmas, kids, and concerns. But the grandma line doesn’t get used if it interferes with them going to work. But let’s say, it’s a group of 10 people who work together. They worked all week together and then they decide to have a BBQ. All of the sudden now they will be reckless, uncaring and selfish as if having a BBQ is anymore risky than the 40 hours they just spent together.

Ok & no more than you are at home at target. You should be wearing masks & staying 6 ft apart from ppl.

Here in the Northeast, I haven't been to a Target, but I have been to Trader Joes just recently. They limit the number of people in stores, lots of displays have been removed so there's more room to distance, and everyone has a mask on.

We know masks are effective when everyone wears them. Airlines are requiring masks, but they're also packing those planes. And the middle seat empty thing, is a joke. And people take the masks off when they eat and drink. And they talk to each other with those masks off, which is how we spread this virus.

Same goes for indoor dining. And so indoor dining at Disney....is a risk. If I went to Disney (but I won't)....I'd eat at outdoor locations only. It's your best shot of getting out of there without catching it.

This is from a neighboring county if you are interested in data (Orange County doesn't have a snapshot like this)

Perspective is a funny thing, when my county (in NY) were at those numbers we were thinking that it's bad but not real bad. Of course we were comparing ourselves to neighboring counties with upwards of 10 times the infections that we had. I'm sure further upstate counties were looking at our numbers and thinking how high they were.
Hope it gets under control for you all down there, it's definitely possible. :goodvibes

Never, ever, ever agin for me personally. I (foolishly perhaps) ignored previous illness that could sweep thru a ship and cause problems, but after seeing what happened to so many people on so many ships in basically a minute? That opened my eyes. I can't make myself want it anymore.
Noravirus is a problem not just on cruise ships. Cruise ships get most of the norovirus attention because the people remain captive together through the outbreak. The same things happen at hotels but it does not make the news because the outbreak ends up spread out all over the place as the sick people leave the hotel instead of confined to the ship.

The world has always been dirty and full of germs.

Technically, as long as you are outside, wear a mask, and maintain social distance, a theme park is one of the safer places to be. Much better than being inside having a meal, or attending a convention.

I'm very curious to see the pics of opening day at WDW. I wonder how full the parks will be, and how easy it is to keep your distance from other guests.
I hardly think a theme park is one of the safer places to be. But you keep on thinking that. 🙄

I think anything that actively encourages people to gather at this point is a bad idea. Certainly, people can follow rules and guidelines, but generally, we should be limiting how often we are around a lot of people. Even doing the best we can to keep distance when in areas with lots of people, we're still in areas with lots of people, and I think that should be avoided when it can. Going on a Target run is a little different than standing in line for Space Mountain.

How about virtual lines and/or distancing by party with limits on the number of guests in line at a time

Even then, there is only so much space for people to wait for things. Sometimes it's even harder when you have to wait to wait, since you have to find somewhere to kill time.

It's just a bit much, I think. I'm in the suburbs now and I'm ok with going to a state park and navigating around other people in large open spaces but WDW simply doesn't fit that bill by design, for me.

I totally disagree. Not only should the states decide but also the counties and by zip code.
I agree about counties but not necessarily by zip code. Zip code separation helps with determining spread by residence but doesn't necessarily mean much other than that in terms of differences in decision making for actual rules more so when you have more populated areas. Maybe if in more rural areas that might work better.

I agree with your point above that I've bolded. In fact I've seen multiple people switch up what plans they are doing and opting for road trips to destinations like National Parks and other such areas that are usually outdoor related but not a place where you'd be around tons of people for the duration of the trip.

I'm not, as I said before, opposed to WDW opening in July but don't really have plans to go there. But I think the above statement I've bolded is more specific to the overall concern. It really would depend on how many people are let it for WDW so IMO it's a bit hard now to say but that's more understandable than your prior comment of "Even doing the best we can to keep distance when in areas with lots of people, we're still in areas with lots of people, and I think that should be avoided when it can." because we've clearly had situations like that comment but not necessarily the same outcry as people envisioning a theme park. The description of a theme park makes people think X when that's not the only place people can and have experienced X.

We cancelled our October trip mainly due to having to wear a mask, no MNSSHP, no dining plan, and other experience related issued. Let me be clear, I am totally fine with wearing a mask in my day to day life and I support Disney's decision to have them worn in the parks, but we don't want to wear them in the Florida heat and humidity. So that along with the other factors swayed us to postpone the trip. I'm sad about it, but we'll get back there. Strangely, I'm much more open to getting on a cruise ship if they do start sailing this fall/winter.

I'm actually more concerned about all the CMs that will have to enforce the masks, the social distancing, and all the other protocols put in place because I absolutely know the abuse they will take. Guests were cranky (to put it mildly) on a normal hot day. Now they're in masks waiting in lines in July/August....I can already hear the "I paid so much money to be here and you can't force me to put the mask on!" arguments. And I guarantee the number of "medical exemptions" are going to be astronomical. I hope that management backs up the front line cast members and they really do enforce the masks and other rules. There will need to be honest-to-god consequences for not following the health measures put in place, and consequences aren't Disney's strong suit.

Sure if you are spending 12 hours shopping. I go in grab what I need and leave. I don’t sit in the food court for an hour, browse for something for a couple hours, etc. As for the “magic” 6 foot thing, that’s not likely to be maintained at a theme park.
Who spends 12 hours shopping at wdw either? First, parks aren’t even open 12 hours. And most ppl won’t spend the whole 10 hours in the park at all much less in one shop standing too close to someone. I’m sorry, but it’s all illogical & driven by fear. At 25% capacity, it should definitely be easy to stay at least 6 ft from others. Easier than at Walmart imo. And, the types of ppl I see at my Walmart are less into hygiene than those I usually see at wdw so that should also be better. I suppose if you’re still not leaving your house at all then I suppose a theme park is more dangerous than that. I do agree that air travel increases, but there are many ppl who are able to drive there.

In what way provided ppl are social distancing & wearing masks on both places?
