Is the WDW Railroad tour at MK worth the twenty minutes? Does anyone use the railroad to get around the park? Should we take it leaving the park from Toontown Fair or Frontierland?
Any strategies on using it? Is the WDW Railroad tour worth the time?

It depends, do you like to ride on steam trains? You see some scenes that you wouldn't ordinarily see, there is some history of the trains given and we like it. However, we also do the train ride at the Cincinnati Zoo, and DH would love to be a conductor at WDW when he can retire to Florida. Try the whole trip to take it all in, then you decide if it's worth the wait to go from one place to the other. We usually do the complete circle, so for us, it's the ride, not a mode of transportation.

We also took the Magic Behind Our Steam Trains tour and recommend to to everyone who likes trains.

We've taken it only once from Main st to Frontierland/ But when we go back in April, I plan to end our touring morning at frontierland, take the train all the way around the loop back to Main St., the 5yr old will get a kick out it. Plus it'll save us from walking through the crowd of people who are trying to get it to the park:)

I can't go to any park and not ride the train if they have one. It is on the top of my list of "Must do's"

DS is a train fanatic, so we ride it all the way around at least 2 times per visit. We like it because it's very relaxing when you are wiped out from so much walking.

I've never found a line waiting for it... that's why we usually jump on it, if its there and no line and we want to sit a bit and relax in partial shade =) Sometimes your little legs just cant walk any further, either, and its a way around walking!

So, it might be a good idea to save it for later on in the day when we start to get tired rather than jump on right away?

If you have kids and you are planning to use the train to go from one stop to another (not the complete circle), just remember that you will not be able to get on with a non-foldable stroller.

we used it to go from one part of the park to another after awhile. When we jumped on the very end car at the main street station, the conducter asked dd8 to yell 'all aboard'. It was so cute but happened so fast. I wish I could have got it on video.:teeth:

I don't have any kids so I don't have to worry about the stroller situation but thanks for the heads up.

We ended our last trip to WDW by riding the train from ToonTown to Main St. It is one of the best memories I have of the trip.

My DH doesn't care for the train but once I got him on this last visit I made him stay on until he could repeat the Spanish words for hands, arms, feet, and legs. "please keep your hands, etc. inside the train".....it was so funny, I think we went around the park at least 3 times. He was a good sport about my silly little game. It was good for him, he learned something. :chat:

We love riding the train - but then again, we just plain love trains, especially my younger DS12. He has loved trains since he was a toddler, and he went through a phase (ages 3 to 8 or 9) when all he talked about was trains. DH and I both grew up in railroad towns, and my dad is retired for the railroad. Given all that, it's kinda hard for me to be objective :teeth: but I think that most people would enjoy at least a short ride on the train. If you get on and decide you don't want to go for the full circle around the park, you can always get off at the next stop. :D
