WDW & IOA can (should) you do both in the same week

We were at WDW in 2000 and want to go back, but also want to go to Islands of Adventure. What is the best way to do both? We loved staying on Disney property and I don’t think moving in the middle of the week would go over to well with the family. Let me know what worked best for you.

We do both in one week, well in 9 days. We are DVC members so we go every year and we just stay in a DVC resort, we don't switch to an IOA resort.

The drive is only 15-20 minutes so we just go back and forth.

Last June, me and mine spent 2 1/2 days at IOA/ USF and saw everything we wanted to see... Some things more than once. Its a whole other experience from WDW. If you have adrenaline junkies in your fam, book it for sure! If not, reconsider

You CAN do both in a week! We did them in two days.

I just got back from Orlando. We stayed at the Hard Rock Resort this time and we did IOA on Tuesday then Magic Kingdom on Wednesday. Our kids (ages 3 & 4) did fine using a stroller. They were up until midnight both nights but had a great time. We were all tired by Thursday and slept in until 10:00am!

Make sure you ride the Hulk coaster and do Adventures of Spiderman! We were supposed to go back to IOA and US yesterday but came home on an earlier flight to get out before the hurricane hit. We'll save our tickets until next time!

I loved IOA and US and can't wait to go back in Jan/Feb without the kids!

We're DVC members and DH wants to get back to Universal. We've never been to IOA and always do SeaWorld when in FL

You don't have to stay at a Universal property for your IOA day because it is very close to Disney - however I would never go to IOA without staying onsite because of the front-of-the-line privledges (even though they aren't as generous as they once were.)

I guess I would do Disney first and then transfer over to Universal for the last 1 or 2 nights of your trip.

We do WDW and Universal parks every trip, and we intermix the days too....

Depending on what time of year you go, if it is off season the rides are pretty much walk ons during the week at the Universal parks and Express pass is not even needed. You can get Express passes for free, like a Fast Pass if you are not staying on Universal Site.

This spring we did two three day weekends there, spent two days in WDW each time and one day in Universal...so it can easily be done..have fun...

I have 3 adventuresome kids, 14,11,9 and since we have been to WDW before and know what to expect I thought we should do WDW first because if we go IOA first and they love it I’ll have to hear how much better IOA for the rest of the trip. Is this sound logic? Also, what is the best ticketing option? Last time we had the “Length of stay” pass (I don’t know what the current version is called) and we loved the freedom it gave us.

Hi Greg!

Your idea sounds very logical. The first time I went to Orlando we went to Universal first and then went to Disney. As much as I love the Disney parks, IOA is my absolute favorite. I found Disney to be a bit of a let-down after Universal.
