WDW golf question

Wasn't sure where to post this question, so thought I would start here.

My wife and I are looking at playing golf at WDW Nov. 20-25 (starting the week before Thanksgiving). We are relatively new players, but don't do too bad. In looking at the WDW golf page, it is stated that they might pair singles and two-somes with others, to play a round as a group of three or four. Does anyone have experience playing golf at WDW and is it probable that we would be paired with another golfer or two?

You will more than likely be paired off with some other people. I wouldn't worry about it though. It is always fun meeting some new people, and its all about having fun.

In November, I agree with PP that you will likely be paired up. For the earlier tee times almost for sure on the 18 hole courses, twilight tee offs might let you get off on your own twosome. The first couple of times for the Oak Trail 9 hole walking course might be early enough so as to not attract vacationers and not as popular with avid golfers (who want to play 18) where you could play as a twosome because no one is there to join in.

Thanks for the input.

We have a tendency to over-think whatever it is we do. But would really like to play the WDW courses, as we are big fans and frequent visitors of WDW. We would just need to overcome the fact we may have a couple of new faces watching us hit---some good shots and some not so good shots. But I assume most average-at-best golfers have the good and bad.

We would most likely schedule tee times later in the day, maybe hitting the parks early.

We've played 6 or 7 times at WDW and we have been paired with another two some all but one round. Don't worry about it if you are paired with another group that's not just a WDW thing every course in the country will do that. If you're new to golf I would suggest the Palm if you want to play an 18 hole course and stay away from the Magnolia. None of the courses are easy, you can't go chase your balls in the woods and the bermuda grass is a lot different then normal golf course grass we tell people its like hitting off a sponge.

We've gotten paired with others and I was worried because I am a lousy golfer. DH is good so he never worries. However, I didn't feel like anyone was looking down on me or was annoyed by me. Everyone we have golfed with have been friendly. I have even gotten tips from better golfers.

The Disney courses are worth playing if you've never done them, but if you plan on more than one outing, you may want to try an offsite course like Orange County or Waldorf. It's possible you could avoid being paired up with 4 at those places depending on the time of the day you go out and I think they're slightly better courses. When I travel there I try to get in golf outing and I generally like the offsite courses better.

I'm an average golfer with an occasional hacking of the clubs and never felt out of place with awesome golfers nor have they made me feel lesser because of it...so even if you are paired up, you'll likely find fellow golfers to be accommodating.

Just make sure your rate of play is consistent with the course expectations and your fellow golfer expectations. Slow rate of play is more annoying to others than whether one is good or not.

Don't worry about being paired up. Hardcore golfers don't take golf only vacations to WDW solely to golf, they understand they might be paired up with lesser experienced golfers. Everyone is out there to have fun.

Personally I am playing Magnolia due to its difficulty and length because I am curious what I'll score there, but if I get paired with a Father-Son, Mother-Daughter who are going out to shoot 130 just to see a Mickey head sand trap, I'll be fine with it. It's WDW, no pressure. Go have fun!

I've played 3 rounds. Once on honeymoon (wife just drove the cart) and 2 other times. All 3 times I was never ever joined by anyone. Nice relaxing 3 hr. round with no one in front or behind... It was awesome.

OP, totally agree with Buzz's comments. PLUS, from a former course marshall, if you want some tips as to how to speed up your pace without stressing or not having fun send me a PM and I can send you some info.

OP, I don't know if you are still worrying about the odds of getting paired up. Here is my small snapshot experience.

In the last three Augusts, I have played over a dozen rounds in the afternoons (yes, in over 90 degree and high humidity) and not had anyone join me. Going to guess there were at most 10 of us crazy enough to go out at any one of those times. Several early morning rounds ended up always paired up at a minimum but no worries.

In one March, one May and two November vacations, about 10 rounds and each one sent out as a three or foursome. Most of the rounds were at least 4.5 hours and May last year was really slow at over 5 hours for all 18 hole rounds. However, it was WDW so I had a blast. Met some really interesting people, learned a lot about places from all over the world and had a lot of laughs sharing bad shots with new golf friends.

And I have to add that I sneak in a nine hole Oak Trail warm up every morning by booking an early time, "paying up" (actually showing them AP which gives free Oak Trail golf) then heading out 10/15 minutes before the first tee time. If they were with me on the trip, at least one of my boys would join me because they just (this is their line) "do not play well with others" lol.
