I am SO excited!!! DS just came in last night and said "let's go to the fort while you and DS are out of school for Christmas." I figured the week between Christmas and New Year's would be terribly crowded and we probably wouldn't even get a camping spot. What about the first week of January- crowds and ability to get a camping reservation?? Thanks for your help.

I think its still fairly crowded since most Fl. kids are still out of school. But as the week goes on, it gets better each day.

We've done this period of time to take advantage of the low crowds and better weather {compared to Ohio} and value season prices for camping. Those were all great positives. A couple of negatives was that a couple of our favorite attractions were shut down/closed for maintenance {splash mountain this year} and you're likely to run into a spike in crowds and traffic as the WDW marathon is around this time.

We're planning an October trip next to still take advantage of low/lower crowds, value season prices and to take advantage of some events like MNSSHP and Epcot Wine and Dine fest.

I had no trouble getting ressies for Jan since I always call at the 499 day mark, but did notice the preferred loops were filled every day during that time, so I'm not sure how close to the actual day you plan to arrive you can call and still get something.

Good luck.

UAB master,

Greetings from the 'ham!

Rates drop down after New Years holiday time. The Fort picks up slightly (and rates too now I think) on the Marathon weekend in January (typically the 2nd weekend of the month or so) but it's not full by any means. Otherwise it's fairly empty in January till MLK Day (think 3-day weekend).

I did the marathon twice and weather can be a little dicey in January but as long as you avoid New Years, Marathon, and MLK dates the crowds are down and life is good. Probably true what others say about some rides being down for refurb at that time so that's the trade-off I guess.

We will be there the first week of january. In our county school doesn't resume until 1/9. We stayed out there last year at the same time. We would hang out by the pool, play tennis, volleyball, etc. Most of the kids were the locals who went to school in our county. I was surprised how many families had the same idea....value season-after christmas-and local fun week. Our surrounding counties resume school 1/3. :thumbsup2
