WDW Deaths? Looking for accurate information.

I was reading the wiki link and was tickled with this one:

On October 9, 2011, a fire broke out in the centerpiece of the attraction structure. Authorities reported that the fire was caused by a light bulb that shorted out and started to smolder. The incident occurred shortly after the park had opened for the day, and no guests were aboard the ride when the fire was discovered.[51] The attraction re-opened the following day.[52]

Luckily no one was injured, but we were there that morning and got photos of the chaos, lol! And I love that it started with a "smolder" ...since we were there to see "Flynn Rider" that afternoon. :lmao:

I'm doing a project for my photojournalism class and I am investigating and photographing places in Walt Disney World where people have died or been injured.

{Flame Proof Suit in Place}
1) Now I know where yellow journalism, starts.
2) No wonder went to Engneering schools.

:sad2:

A bus killed an older man at Port Orleans in Dec 2010. There have been stabbing deaths as well at one of the other resorts in 2009, can't remember exactly when. There was also 1 death in Downtown Disney - it was on Dr. G medical examiner...

I may be taking the wrong approach here but you could talk about George the man who supposidely died at pirates during he building of it and haunts it. There's also supposedly a lady (maybe two) who died when a boat went over the barrier at the bottom of the hill. But idk how confimed any of these deaths are and if they actually occurred (especially George). Hope this helps in some way.

I remember a man jumping from the 14th floor and landed on, and crashing, the glass roof of a merchandise shop. He died. 80's maybe?

The man who got hit by the bus at Port Orleans ran across the landscaped median to catch up to his family. Sad, but his fault. There is now a fence in place to prevent this. At French Quarter as well (then fence, that is).

I just want to say thank you to all of you for giving me helpful responses.

I understand that it is a morbid subject and that it should be approached delicately. I have been inspired by a photographer that takes images of dump sites where bodies have been found. You look at an empty landscape and then once you know the context, the photograph has so much more meaning. I'm not trying to offend anyone, though I understand that it might be that way for some people. I have such fond memories of visiting Disney and I am just trying investigate and learn more about a place that has impacted my life and that I have always enjoyed going to.

.
Obviously you did not set the bar very high for what inspires you. Really? This is the best you can come up with for a project? You seem to be well on your way to a great career in journalism. Out of all of the great things that Disney has provided for the handicapped ant the terminally ill (Make A Wish Foundation), the best idea you could come up with for your project was to go around an amusement park and take pictures of sites where people died? Enjoy your career with TMZ, E Online or what ever trash site you end up with.

All I can say is "wow"....... I find your post a tad bit judgemental. Having a bad day?

I agree very judgemental - in college I did a photography project where I took pictures of graves of famous people in our area and told their story to go with the picture. So her project is just telling some people's sad stories. Good luck on your project! I would add suggestions but all the ones I know have been said.

People get confused and think Disney is all pixie dust and rainbows-it isn't. This topic is different. If I were the teacher, I'd give points for originality.

I wanna say around 2006/2007 at Hollywood Studios a 12 year old boy was unresponsive in his seat at the end of the ride and was later pronounced dead. Pretty big shock to my family on vacation where the last thing you'd expect on your vacation is to lose someone in your family..

Snopes has a list of Disneyland deaths: http://www.snopes.com/disney/parks/deaths.asp

They even have a whole section on DisneyWorld and theme parks: http://www.snopes.com/disney/parks/parks.asp
Oh great, there goes my day! Snopes is one of those websites that just sucks me in and manages to keep my attention for way too long. :p

As much as the stories of Disney deaths fascinate me, it makes me really angry that anyone would chose a place like WDW/DL/etc. to commit suicide. What if some kid found them? Or even just saw them? Talk about being traumatized! That's just not cool. (Understatement.)

But i'll give you three more that are a little more notorious:

in 2001 or 2002...a CM on an off day going through a messy divorce left his boat on the "double dip" portion of Splash Mountain...and waited there for the next boat. Ouch.

That was in Nov 2000. It was the day I checked in (to the Contemporary). As we first got into our room (I believe it was early afternoon) with our luggage and are getting settled, I happen to turn on the TV and to one of the local channels and they are reporting "Breaking News - Death on Splash Mountain at WDW". Nice way to start the vacation.

When I was at Disney, maybe in 2003, there was a murder in a restaurant in Downtown Disney. They found a worker/bus boy, murdered.

Wow that was RUDE

Wow that was RUDE
I'm glad you quoted it before it got wiped...

not only is it RUDE...it's shortsighted and inaccurate.

The truth...the actualy, black and white, no pom-pom truth...is always worth reseraching and writing about...no matter what the subject matter may be.

This is how we are getting off course...by worrying about the warm and fuzzies and listening to those that spew for profit and not for the sake of the truth.

we should embrace all the bad stuff and ask how to fix it...then as a society DO IT.

disney does many things well...they are more than open about letting us know about it...they do things badly and make mistakes as well...and try to bury them. I'm not scared of the truth.

Enjoy watching Hannity
