WDW/DCL Western Caribbean Honeymoon Extravaganza!! DONE!!! - PG 51!!

:scared1:To inappropriate Mickey!! That fresh little scamp!! ;)

I will most definately take your word on cats. I will admit my daughter had a VERY cool cat at one time. His name was Charlie and he let the kitten she got suck on his toes. It was so sweet, and she eventually sucked all the hair off his toes. She was a poor little pound kitten that was raised on a bottle. When my daughter got Delilah, Charlie became her "mama".:goodvibes

You know, I can't imagine Hemmingway birthday crowds, intense heat and a town full of touristy shops would be a good mix when you have no idea what to do, or how to find something different. To me I always equate the idea of a cruise with exotic locales, lots of leisure time and good food and a drink or two. Doesn't sound like a summer holiday in key west fits that bill. I haven't ever been on a cruise, so I have no idea what I would have done, but your choice of board games and drinks sounds fun and relaxing!

As for Parrot Bay, how disappointing that food that looked so good didn't taste so good.

Looking forward to more and enjoying it all. Don't even think it's boring! I have never even been on the wonder, so I'm loving this!

Glad you don't think it's getting boring! Yeah, Day 2 we were like, "Ok, we're at a new place, we're realy going to start enjoying this cruise..." and then we were just miserable in Key West! Ugh, we were pathetic!

I think I'm starting to understand your "funk" now. When us crazed planning Disers go to DW, we have a plan. We have a daily schedule, we know basically where we're going, where we're eating, what show we'll see that night. When we get on a cruise for the very first time, all of that goes out the window and we're like HUH? We kind of walk around dazed, like we should be going 100 mph and the cruise forces us to stop. So I think that is why people are always asking to post the navigators, menus etc here, so they can make that plan. I had a few things planned, but enjoyed the :winging" it part of the Magic too, especially going to the adult show at night at Rockin Bar D, did you get a chance to see that? And having dinner with other Disers, that was so much fun. Anyway, I'm still loving your report, and the pictures!

Exactly. And we had just come from a week of GO GO GO in the parks. Believe me, I had seen the menus, read the navigators, definitely prepared for this vacation more than your average cruiser. But as much as you can prepare, you really won't know what you're in for until you're actually there.

For the main course, I got the Island-spiced Grilled Rib-Eye of Beef
ry%3D480

Tom: SAUCE!

and Tom got the Braised Jerk-seasoned Pork Chop.
ry%3D480

Tom: SAUCE!

:rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

You see, you read the posts about Key West wrong...what they really said was "the BEST thing to do in Key West is to walk around".

As in "the best you can hope for during a nuclear war is a quick and painless death". See the connection? It's not like you want a nuclear war, but if you find yourself in one, well, might as well walk around, err, I mean hope for a quick and painless death. :thumbsup2

LOL!

We ended up walking around (with Kenny and Michelle and their DD), looked in a few shops, and ended up getting frozen chocolate dipped key lime pie on a stick at The Blonde Giraffe. After that, we dropped the kids off at the kids club, and hung out at the adult pool, where we met the coolest newlyweds. AT THAT POINT IN TIME WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT A BORING TIME YOU GUYS WERE HAVING. :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :thumbsup2 This was our Palo dinner night, and we added Kenny and Michelle onto our reservation...and we just "hung out" until dinner.

Now that I think about it, one of the reasons we had so much fun was that we ended up hanging out with so many cool people on the cruise (including, when it comes down to it, our kids!) (Moet, for example, is right up our alley!) We were actually rushed trying to get to beer tastings, fitness training classes, movie show times, galley tours, blah blah blah.

Anyways, it seems like you guys were almost isolated, even though you knew some people on the cruise. With that in mind, and not knowing what events (tastings, etc.) were happening when, I can see how the cruise could seem tedious and like it was lasting FOREVER! :guilty:

We weren't really having such a boring time, just felt like there should be something more, ya know? I know this sounds weird because it was our honeymoon, but I feel like if we went with friends or another couple it might have been easier to just sit around and chat. (Not to say I don't like to chat with DH, but you know what I mean.)

OR even someone who had been on a cruise before.
When I first took Tom to WDW, I planned an awesome trip for him, knowing that he was a newbie and how overwhelming it is, I planned every detail and just took him around! And, as you know, he loved it. But if someone had just dropped him in WDW, he probably wouldn't have had a good time and would not want to go again. I feel like if we had someone to "take us around" we'd have had a better time.

We did end up doing some activities...not every day will be as boring as this one!! (But that was NOT the last time we played checkers!)

I would have so loved to see you in your ears...some *ahem* ADULTS *ahem* (using the term loosely!) wear them everywhere on the ship (bless her big heart!):

P7300032-1.jpg

Adorable! I didn't see anyone else wearing them. We did wear our pins that said, "I'm on my honeymoon" but even the CMs didn't know what they were for. We occassionaly got a "Happy Birthday."

Sheri (my wife) was actually a bit "pissed" that they gave you nothing! *sigh*.

:goodvibes

Oh. My. God. (as we say in California). After your experience just getting to the ship, this is just icing on the cake! Oh. My. God.

  :grouphug:

I know. Pretty sad, huh?

LOL!

We did end up doing some activities...not every day will be as boring as this one!! (But that was NOT the last time we played checkers!)

Its me again, I hope you're not getting sick of me:lovestruc. I just wanted to tell you that if it was a boring or dull day, tell us! If the whole darn cruise was boring, thats okay too. Gosh, don't feel like you have to pretty it up, we can take it. I think every one of us can relate to every single feeling you've had so far.

Yes, it is OK, tell it like it was! I do get it though, when we went on our cruise we were with friends and that for sure made a difference. Even though we had no idea what to expect we had fun figuring it out together. So, the next time you are thinking about a cruise make sure you include us!:grouphug:

I loved hearing what yall did for Key west day and playing checkers that sounds so relaxing! I wish I could do that now LOL

Food looked yummy!

Great updates, I appreciate your honesty when it comes to describing the cruise (although I hope I enjoy it a little better than you guys). Looking forward to more! :)

Of course I'm not getting sick of you! I love seeing replies on my TR! Thanks for your support! :thumbsup2

"Looked" being the key word there.... ;)

Great updates, I appreciate your honesty when it comes to describing the cruise (although I hope I enjoy it a little better than you guys). Looking forward to more! :)

Thanks! You know what? I think it probably would have really helped me to have read some fairly negative reviews before cruising. That way my expectations wouldn't have been SO high! So I hope you can use my TR to your advantage for your cruise.

Hi
Been reading your TR and the first part was so "wonderful" and now the "magic" seems to have gone away for you. So sorry to hear that the "cruise" part didn't turn out the way you "dreamed" it would have. (hey, did you notice I just used the three names of the Disney Cruise Ships in that sentence?) LOL

But really, so sorry that you spent so much money on a cruise which is not cheap on DCL for you and your DH to play checkers and to feel lost.

Perhaps taking on planning a wedding and a week at DW and then a cruise was a bit much to make sure you "hit" on all the right stuff!

This was our second cruise and we had the best time, and like Greg and his DW we were running from one thing to the next.

I don't understand how you have been missing the shows??
Did you know to read the navigators each day? This is how we planned what we would do. It's to bad you missed the first show as this was a great way to start the cruise. They had a little bit of everything that would be done during the week. kind of a "preview" As far as the late dinner, we also had it and enjoyed not having to rush to get to dinner each night. We actually had enough time to see the show and relax some place on the ship or just sit on our veranda until it was time for our dinner.

For the adult shows, they all started at 10:15 and we went to most of them with our older sons and had a ball laughing at them. We were usually back to our rooms by 11:00. Yes, there were things for adults that started at 11:00, mostly those were dance parties, but the actual "adult shows" match your mat, or the comedy shows were all at 10:15 and just lasted 45 min.

I hear you on the Key West Day. It was HOT, HOT, HOT. we did as Greg did and walked around a bit grabbed the key lime pie on a stick at blonde giraffe and called it a day. Oh, wait, we did walk to the Southern Most Point and to The Little White House. Of course we took some pics of the bars, etc. But we all agreed, it was fun to see Key West and it would be a blast to go there with a group of friends, but it's not a family place.

Now that I think about it, one of the reasons we had so much fun was that we ended up hanging out with so many cool people on the cruise (including, when it comes down to it, our kids!) (Moet, for example, is right up our alley!) Why Thank you Greg! Right back at you! I loved when I saw your wife in her EARS!!!:thumbsup2 By the way, did you ever see my answer to your question about the green M & M's? I posted it on the meet thread!

We were actually rushed trying to get to beer tastings, fitness training classes, movie show times, galley tours, blah blah blah.

Yes, exactly, there was alot to do, but you have to really read that navigator to figure it all out. I don't know how we did it,but we actually missed the dessert buffet this time around???:confused3 So even someone who does read those things can miss stuff!
Anyways, it seems like you guys were almost isolated, even though you knew some people on the cruise. With that in mind, and not knowing what events (tastings, etc.) were happening when, I can see how the cruise could seem tedious and like it was lasting FOREVER! :guilty:

Have to agree again on this. When we went on our first cruise, not Disney, after we got on board, we were like "ok, now what" we saw people eating and thought "oh, ok, are we suppose to eat now also?" we didn't have a clue!

I would have so loved to see you in your ears...some *ahem* ADULTS *ahem* (using the term loosely!) wear them everywhere on the ship (bless her big heart!):

Agree again! I think you would have gotten a lot of attention if those ears were on.
P7300032-1.jpg

Sheri (my wife) was actually a bit "pissed" that they gave you nothing! *sigh*.

I agree again, can't believe nothing was done for you, Was it noted on your reservation?

Oh. My. God. (as we say in California). After your experience just getting to the ship, this is just icing on the cake! Oh. My. God.

  :grouphug:[/QUOTE]

Loved the story about watching the guys fixing the ceiling. On our first cruise, my husband sat on our veranda for a long time watching a life boat drill. Even took video and pics of it!

Don't feel bad about not finding all the "magic" that everyone else did on the cruise. Cruising is not for everyone plain and simple! just think of how bad it would have been if it wasn't a Disney Cruise!!! Atleast you have your love of Disney still with looking at everything on the ship. On another cruise line you woudn't have even had that, now that would have been a drag!

And I agree with the sauce on the food. You could have asked for it to be on the side and your server would have taken care of that.

It's knowing what to expect and what to ask for I think that makes a cruise extra special for some people.

Enjoying your point of view and glad you are open to expressing it.

But there is just one thing that I found odd coming from a Disney Loving person. I don't remember your exact words, but your comments about getting on the ship not being anything special. Getting on the ship for me was one of my highlights and I even made sure my husband boarded before us so that he could get it all on tape. Did they not announce you and your DH as you walked on??? I just thought that was so special when we walked up and they said "welcome back to the .......family" That marked the beginning our our cruise.

Once again, enjoying your report and wishing you much happiness in your marriage!

Hey Nikki!

It's so interesting reading about your experiences on the Cruise and your responses to it. It's so different to reading about the parks!

We are going to WDW next year - I've been showing my hubby your reports and photos and he's been so intrigued that he's been costing up adding three days at sea onto the end of our holiday!

It looks like an amazing experience but after reading your updates and the whole sense of 'what do we do now?' I can totally understand how you were feeling - I would probably feel the same!

Loving the report!:thumbsup2

You know I have been on one cruise with my husband and I have to say that the best times that we had were honestly sitting on our veranda watching the sea. We also realized that we could do that on a beach chair at a gulf side resort for about 1/2 the price of a Disney cruise and have better food to boot.

I am with you all: I kind of wish that I would have just stayed an extra week at DW rather than take the cruise.

And I am with you on the food. My husband and I kept on saying that this was no better than our respective college cafeterias. When you are forking over nearly 5K for a vacation, I want some DEEEEEELICOUS food, please.

Loving your trip report and look forward to reading more.

Jennifer

My God Girl! You write trip reports like you walk around World Showcase!!! :worship: I am now caught up so here are my thoughts. You have just summed up all of my fears of booking a cruise by your experience. You know my families issues with Epcot. Well I am pretty sure they would hate a cruise ship even more. My kids are not the kind to be sent off to the childrens activities to interact with other kids they don't know. My dd is too nervous for that and my ds has no desire to befriend anyone he didn't pick himself (a lot like his father .) I have no idea what we would do all day to keep ourselves occupied as silly as that sounds. So many of our friends tell us we need to try a cruise, but if I panic because I can't find the exit in Epcot what will I do on that ship in the middle of the ocean? I honestly believe that some people are born to be cruisers and some just aren't cut out for it. At least now you can say you tried it and you know what kind of vacation best suits the two of you.

That comment about Mickey at the Artist's Palette had me in tears!!!!! :lmao:

As far as the board games go I have found the most wonderful thing! We love board games too and I bought dd the Hasbro Family Game Night for the Wii and OMG!!!! I can't quit playing it!! :yay: You and Tom need to grab this one. I am so bad that she asked me when I would be done so she could have her room back. :rolleyes1

They had a little bit of everything that would be done during the week. kind of a "preview" As far as the late dinner, we also had it and enjoyed not having to rush to get to dinner each night.

We were able to read the navigators just fine. Like I said, I don't think we "missed" them as much as didn't really take the time to seek them out. We did go to some later on, though!

We DID see the illusionist, the first few days were the worst, don't worry, we DID actually do some things!

It would have been much easier to deal with if it wasn't so HOT!

Yes, exactly, there was alot to do, but you have to really read that navigator to figure it all out. I don't know how we did it,but we actually missed the dessert buffet this time around???:confused3 So even someone who does read those things can miss stuff!

Again, we DID some things that looked interesting to us on the Navigator. I totally missed the dessert buffet too! I don't think that was listed, honestly, because I was looking for that. And the night that we saw the illussionist, we walked out and there was a spread of food, which I wish I would have known about in advance. Why don't they tell you where the food (that you PAY for) is going to be??

Have to agree again on this. When we went on our first cruise, not Disney, after we got on board, we were like "ok, now what" we saw people eating and thought "oh, ok, are we suppose to eat now also?" we didn't have a clue!

Yeah, we were just clueless!

I agree again, can't believe nothing was done for you, Was it noted on your reservation?

Yes, it was noted on our reservation AND our stateroom host HAD to know because he delivered the gift from our TA. :confused3

Loved the story about watching the guys fixing the ceiling. On our first cruise, my husband sat on our veranda for a long time watching a life boat drill. Even took video and pics of it!

Atleast you have your love of Disney still with looking at everything on the ship. On another cruise line you woudn't have even had that, now that would have been a drag!

You are absolutely right! The Disney elements of it were the best part!! I think we're just not "cruise people" and if we went with any other cruise line, we would have been miserable!

Enjoying your point of view and glad you are open to expressing it.

Thanks you. I really do appreciate that!

But there is just one thing that I found odd coming from a Disney Loving person. I don't remember your exact words, but your comments about getting on the ship not being anything special. Again, I think it was a matter of just reading too much about it beforehand. That, combined with the kind of morning we had...I guess we just weren't feeling it. :confused3

Once again, enjoying your report and wishing you much happiness in your marriage![/B]

Thanks you so much!! I appreciate you taking the time to comment!

Exactly! It's like, yeah this is nice, but is this really what I paid $5000 to do?!

Thanks for your comments! :thumbsup2

But there is just one thing that I found odd coming from a Disney Loving person. I don't remember your exact words, but your comments about getting on the ship not being anything special. Getting on the ship for me was one of my highlights

I think that what Nikki and Tom were saying is that their expectations were built up to incredible levels by all of the positive (ok, let's be honest here, even "gushing") reviews us DISers gave over all aspects of the cruise. It's hard to live up to the expectations some of us addicts (WDW, DLR, DVC, DCL) have created!

And I fully understand Nikki's example of taking Tom to WDW for the very first time - if he had been dropped off there and told "have fun, we'll pick you up in a week", sure he'd have fun...eventually! But at first he'd feel lost and overwhelmed. And if you lock him in the hotel on certain hours, or even days (sea days), and he's not in tune to all of the events at the hotel, he may even get bored.

(And thanks for all of the kind words, moet!)

YES! Even in the summer, I'm in bed at like 10! I'm sorry, but I like to sleep!

There was one summer a few years ago that I totally let myself go...staying up until 2am, sleeping past noon. It was not pretty. Now I can't even sleep past 9am, even if I tried!

Yeah, that's me, too! I stayed up until 11 pm last night and I'm toast today. LOL

I think I'm starting to understand your "funk" now. When us crazed planning Disers go to DW, we have a plan. This is exactly what scares me about a cruise (my parents have done one and they loved it and DH and our girls want to do one) -- it absolutely terrifies me that we'll be stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean with nothing to do but sit there and stare at each other, LOL! I'm a planner...I plan obsessively. What the heck am I supposed to plan on a boat???

My God Girl! You write trip reports like you walk around World Showcase!!! :worship: I am now caught up so here are my thoughts. Exactly -- my same concerns about a cruise. My parents want us to do a 4 night cruise with them over spring break next year and I'm just not sure I can do it. Besides, I'm highly claustrophobic and DH teases me that we'll be in the middle of the ocean and I'll have a panic attack and be screaming at him to get me off the boat right now! LOL I was also LOL about Mickey at the Artist's Palette. And thanks for the tip about the Wii game -- I think I'll add that to my shopping list!

Great updates, Nikki!

Yes, you are so right. I think we just aren't "Cruise People!"

Thanks for the Wii tip! I'll definitely check it out!

Exactly! That's why when people I know say they are going to WDW for the first time, I bombard them with tons of info because I'm afraid that they'll be so overwhelmed when they get there, they won't have a good time.

Yeah, that's me, too! I stayed up until 11 pm last night and I'm toast today. LOL

You are totally right! I had all the books for the cruise, Birnbaums, Passporter...I knew all the details inside and out but you really can't understand what it's like until you're there.

Seriously! Mickey was a maniac!! :lmao:

I forgot to ask - is Tom a Joss Whedon fan - posing next to a boat called 'Serenity'? Or was it just a coincidence?:rotfl2:

I just wondered as you're a Lost fan!:)

I have to agree with you that Key West is just plain hot and nasty with the sole exception of frozen Key Lime pie on a stick- the only reason I have ever and will ever go to the Keys again for any reason.
I have never found the dessert buffet on a Navigator and believe me when I tell you sister- I HAVE SEARCHED for it:rolleyes1 I, like you, found it by accident.
I think that you are right that no matter how much you read about the experience you don't know for sure until you are there in the middle of it to know if you like it or not. It is really a matter of your individual likes and dislikes.

I forgot to ask - is Tom a Joss Whedon fan - posing next to a boat called 'Serenity'? Or was it just a coincidence?:rotfl2:

I just wondered as you're a Lost fan!:)

As a matter of fact, that's EXACTLY why he posed with that boat! ;)
