WDW/DCL Western Caribbean Honeymoon Extravaganza!! DONE!!! - PG 51!!

Add me to the list of people who think DHS is a very confusing, poorly laid out, HOT park! But it's DH and the girls' favorite park. Go figure. It's my least favorite park. It could use some more attractions and better layout. The crisscrossing drives me crazy and I always feel like I'm lost. If I had to rank the parks, I think for me it would be Epcot, MK, AK, DHS. But I'll be more than happy to spend time in any of them! :)

Loving your TR, Nikki -- and I love Tom's input, as well!!

I think my ranking is the same as yours. Although AK and MK and both fighting for second place.

So glad the TR is a hit!! Tom will be happy to hear someone is enjoying his input!!

Considering we just did a land/sea in Feb and prices just went up, we are only going back for a quick 3 day bounceback cruise. So, sadly, we "agreed" to skip the parks:sad2: in the interest of saving cash...
(hooray for ice cream!:cheer2:)
your TR is a vicarious vacation!:woohoo:

I also love the No Way Jose! Chocolate and Peanut Butter are my absolute fave!

I feel like I can sum up my thoughts on DHS with this. I live in Orlando, have an AP and have only riden TSM twice. On the same day, for that matter. It is always insanely crowded. We love it - just not worth the hassle.

I love the pic with you and SE. This is how sad I am... I looked at it and thought - that would be an awesome Facebook photo! LOL...:cool1:

Anyway - great TR - can't wait for the rest... And please don't take until October - I sail in 24 days and would love to hear about the cruise portion before I leave!!!

love the pictures of AK in the evening... i've never been there for EMH pm - not sure why not! might have to try it out next trip... shame EE wasn't open for you guys, the view from the top, in the dark, would be amazing!!

I love all 4 parks in wdw and really find it hard to pick an absolute favourite.. I did find last trip though that DHS felt the most crowded - especially in the evenings :scared1:
I think it maybe feels this way because it was built to be a 'half day' park originally... Disney wanted guests to stay a little longer in wdw, and so that's all MGM/DHS needed to be.
Now it's expanded a lot & has some of the most popular rides in it.. but it's still so small in size!

BTW ... did you notice the empty building next to TSM (on the way to Backlot tour).. that said "hot set in progress" on it... rumours of a Monsters Inc coaster there!! :woohoo:

Can't wait to read more....

Emma you are so full of information, I just love it!!!!

Sorry I ruffled so many feathers guys! I promise they won't take your Epcot away just because I don't care for it. :grouphug:

Animal Kingdom is soooo pretty at night! We've never been there after dark but will try to make a point of going on our next trip in December. We have found that Animal Kingdom is so HOT during the day - so evening would certainly be better!

Your pictures are so good. And creative!! Cute, cute, cute!

Oooh, Emma -- that would be neat -- we were wondering what that location might end up being...although it would drastically increase the traffic in that area -- if Pixar Place is crowded now with TSMM, just think how much more crowded it would be if another new ride opened right there!

Emma you are so full of information, I just love it!!!!

We still love you, Jeana! Don't worry -- you didn't ruffle my feathers! :grouphug:

Wow!? AK at night is so pretty! Was it extra magic hours? I think that would be a great thing to utlize when planning for the future. I would love to do AK at night after a morning in DHS or DTD or something:love:

EE was so pretty all lit up!! Also, your food from Yak and Yeti CS looked great! Gives me hope for when we go back using Quick Service dining! haha

Can't wait for your next update:yay:

I'll try my hardest! No honestly, I'll definitely be done by then, no worries! And if I had facebook, I would def use that picture! Maybe I'll use it on my return address labels. I always use a WDW pic!

Interesting tidbit about DHS. That would be awesome if they put another new ride already!

I had seen a few pics of AK at night on the DIS and made it a point to see it for myself this trip! You are right, it is brutal during the day. I think all that heat gets trapped in the small walkways covered with trees. The crowds and the heat improved dramatically as soon as the sun went down. :thumbsup2

It would definitely be PACKED over in that area but at least the crowds would be spread between the two rides and not just the one.

Yes, it was extra magic hours.

This was the second time we ate at the Yak and Yeti CS. I didn't get it this time but last time we got the Crispy Honey Chicken and it was SOO good! Just something to think about if you do end up eating there! :thumbsup2

:woohoo: waiting for more TR! Hurry we start :teacher: soon!
See I am not the only one that loves DHS!

Don't worry!! It will be done before school starts, definitley! I can't believe it's the middle of August already! When are you going to go in to set up your room? Let's go together...although I may have to go in a couple of times because of my room switch...I don't even want to see what they did with all of my things. OR how much of the 4th grade stuff is still left over.

I didn't know you were such DHS lover! Not more than Epcot, though, right??? ;)

Yes, DHS is on the top of my list, maybe tied with Epcot. I will let you know the next time I go. Which seems much too far away!:hourglass

Let's plan on going in to school one day next week just to empty out supplies and get a first look at the rooms. I do not want to spend too much of the last time off in there!

I can't wait to hear more...great report !!;):thumbsup2

Thanks!!! :goodvibes

NEXT WEEK!!! :scared1: Ugh, where did the summer go?! Yea I guess we should. Ugh I'm going to have so much to do this year, setting up my whole classroom from scratch again. At least I'll be upstairs with you!

Don't remind me summer's is very quickly coming to an end.

I bought a book for my grades this week though. There's room in the agenda they give us, but I always feel that I never have enough space.

Day 4 ~ July 22, 2009
Magic Kingdom AM and Lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern!

We woke up and headed straight to the Grand Ceremonial House to catch the monorail over to the MK! Look what I spotted going up the stairs of the GCH!
ry%3D400

We didn't get there RIGHT at opening, but as we walked up Main St. we saw the little "Walking Right Down the Middle of Main St. USA" show, which I waas THRILLED about because I have this song memorized from the park CDs but never actually saw it! It was cute.
ry%3D400

You can never really have enough Cinderella Castle shots, can you?
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

ry%3D480

I feel like if you want to get to the big rides in ANY park, you have to get there early. Normally, when we get to the MK for early morning, we go to Fantasyland first, since that gets the most crowded, IMO. But since we knew we were going back with my neice for her first trip in Oct, we knew we'd get plently of Fantasyland in on that trip so we kind of completely skipped it. Woops!

Instead we went straight for Splash and Big Thunder. On the way, of course, we had to stop and take some pictures. We walked down the sneaky path along the river.
ry%3D400

ry%3D480

We got a FP for Splash and went to check out the line for Big Thunder. It said 20 mins but it was pretty much a walk on, it just took a few minutes to walk up and around and down.

After BTMRR, we rode the Haunted Mansion. Tom's still got his flare!
ry%3D480

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

After the ride, we were finally able to get a decent picture of Mr. Toad in the pet cemetary now that we have our new fancy camera!! I'll let Tom fill you in on what it said on his tombstone!
ry%3D480

From there, we made our way to Tomorrowland, via Fantasyland, stopping to take a pic with the Fairy Godmother.
ry%3D480

I had to get my favorite frozen rasberry lemonade!
ry%3D400

This was very sad for us. The TTA is one of those rides that we can go on over and over again. It's so relaxing and cool. A perfect break on a hot summer day.
ry%3D400

ry%3D480

We rode Buzz with, surprisingly, only a 10 minute wait. The park , overall, seems way less crowded than it did the day we arrived.

We made our way back to Liberty Square for lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern. Our ADR for was 11:30, which is when the restaurant opens. We definitely could've gotten in without a reservation, it was pretty empty, even when we left.

We had to wait a little since we got there early so I went upstairs to the bathroom and Tom took this picture of me, apparently doing some sort of Baby, from Dirty Dancing pose.
ry%3D480

The main reason for this ADR was for the Tavern Fried Cheese, I had seen on Food Porn. I HAD to have it. It did NOT disappoint!
ry%3D400

I had a delicious, juicy hamburger...
ry%3D480

And Tom had the Tri-Corner Sandwich. (Which was roast beef.)
ry%3D480

I don't think either of us finished our meals but you better believe I finished off that cheese!!
ry%3D480

And you also better believe we got dessert!!! It was the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake and it was soooo good!
ry%3D480

After lunch, we headed back over to Splash Mountain for our FP return time.

Splash Mountain is probably my favorite ride in all of WDW, if I HAD to pick one. It's got all the elements of what makes a great ride. It's got the story, the music, the animatronics, the slow boat ride and the thrill ride ALL IN ONE! So I was pretty happy to be getting on this ride at the moment.

Right as we were getting on the boat, I commented on how wet the seat was and the man in the row next to us (who ended up in the log behind us) struck up a convo with us. He was there celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary. He said he and his wife have been going to WDW since it opened and now he takes his grandkids. He was riding by himself because she doesn't like to ride.

He was clearly as happy to be on this ride as I was and we said we hoped we'd still be coming to WDW when we're celebrating OUR 40th anniversary. The best part, was that he was singing along to the music inside the ride!! It was so cute! I mean, we always sing along but to hear someone else enjoying the things that you love is really special, I think. That's why I'm so obsesesed with people who tell me they are going to WDW, because I want to make sure they know everything and are totally prepared so that they have an awesome time!

Well, anyway, I'm rambling again. The ride was awesome and we got soaked but we didn't care.

After Splash, we decided to leave and head back to the Poly. On the way out, we stopped in Exposition hall to see if we can find Mr. Toad's ride vehicle again. Here's me when I found the ride vehicle behind a random curtain in 2006.
108055toadscewed.JPG

Well, imagine my surprise when this time, I found THIS behind the curtain...NOTHING!!
ry%3D480

From the Poly, we didn't even stop in our room, we just got right on the bus to DTD to do a little shopping before dinner at Epcot!!!
ry%3D480

Up Next: DTD, Epcot and dinner The Rose and Crown

Yaaay! So many updates, its so much fun!! Funny thing is you have done our exact morning plan for when we go in Jan.!! We are headed straight to FL to FP Splash, ride Thunder and HM! So happy it worked out well for you guys:goodvibes

I am so sad about TTA! That was the only "ride" my father in law could talk my daughter into riding! Hope it is back soon!!

Also, your lunch looks great!

The pics of you looking for Toad's car is sooo funny!!I especially like the one when the car is not there anymore!!

Interested in seeing Rose and Crown! Heard that was a great place too--especially because DH loves beer!

Lovin your report Nikki! I guess I am the lone ranger here because my family loves DHS! We have just the total opposite opinions of you guys. Epcot drives us insane! We always say we are going to give it another try and hate it even more when we do. We have all decided to skip Epcot from now on because it puts us all in such a bad mood. The comments Tom made about feeling the heat, and the concrete below your feet when he's at HS is how I feel about Epcot (maybe he didn't say that feet part but I feel that way!)

My kids loved HS so much we spent two days there this time. We love the layout and the atmoshpere. Can't say enough about TSM, and we like the shows. I do agree that another ride or two wouldn't hurt the place. Oh well, like Tom said, everyone has to have a fourth favorite and ours is Epcot.

I'm always interested to hear when someone has the opposite opinion!

One thing that we try to keep in mind, and many a fellow park guest has told us, is that our WDW experience will be completely different when we have kids. This will also come into play when Nik gets to the cruise. There are many elements that we love right now and many that we don't really appreciate - and they may very well switch places once we have a family in tow. Who knows, maybe we'll love DHS when the kids are leading the way.
But if the kids don't like EPCOT we will sell them on Ebay. :scared1:;)

I have to say that the general tone on this board is MUCH more polite and respectful than the other message board I frequent (non-Disney). It's refreshing.

After the ride, we were finally able to get a decent picture of Mr. Toad in the pet cemetary now that we have our new fancy camera!! I'll let Tom fill you in on what it said on his tombstone!

Okay. I'm not sure if this came from a CM or from a podcast and it's impossible to see it from the low perspective (Toad is placed high up the hill, to the left). Supposedly the inscription reads, "Here lies Toad, Sad but true, He just wasn't as profitable as Pooh."
I think that says it all. But I do love that silly old bear...

Interested in seeing Rose and Crown! Heard that was a great place too--especially because DH loves beer!

Rose and Crown is....oh wait, I'm getting into SPOILER territory...:rolleyes1
