Day 4 ~ July 22, 2009
Magic Kingdom AM and Lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern!
We woke up and headed straight to the Grand Ceremonial House to catch the monorail over to the MK! Look what I spotted going up the stairs of the GCH!
Great find!! I missed that one!
We didn't get there RIGHT at opening, but as we walked up Main St. we saw the little "Walking Right Down the Middle of Main St. USA" show, which I waas THRILLED about because I have this song memorized from the park CDs but never actually saw it! It was cute.
We saw it back in April when Ashley's band marched - isn't it great!!
You can never really have enough Cinderella Castle shots, can you?
I feel like if you want to get to the big rides in ANY park, you have to get there early. Normally, when we get to the MK for early morning, we go to Fantasyland first, since that gets the most crowded, IMO. But since we knew we were going back with my neice for her first trip in Oct, we knew we'd get plently of Fantasyland in on that trip so we kind of completely skipped it. Woops!
Instead we went straight for Splash and Big Thunder. On the way, of course, we had to stop and take some pictures. We walked down the sneaky path along the river.
We got a FP for Splash and went to check out the line for Big Thunder. It said 20 mins but it was pretty much a walk on, it just took a few minutes to walk up and around and down.
After BTMRR, we rode the Haunted Mansion. Tom's still got his flare!
After the ride, we were finally able to get a decent picture of Mr. Toad in the pet cemetary now that we have our new fancy camera!! I'll let Tom fill you in on what it said on his tombstone!
Ok - never knew about that - gives me something to look for next trip!!
This was very sad for us. The TTA is one of those rides that we can go on over and over again. It's so relaxing and cool. A perfect break on a hot summer day.
We really missed it too.
We made our way back to Liberty Square for lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern. Our ADR for was 11:30, which is when the restaurant opens. We definitely could've gotten in without a reservation, it was pretty empty, even when we left.
We had to wait a little since we got there early so I went upstairs to the bathroom and Tom took this picture of me, apparently doing some sort of Baby, from Dirty Dancing pose.
The main reason for this ADR was for the Tavern Fried Cheese, I had seen on Food Porn. I HAD to have it. It did NOT disappoint!
I had a delicious, juicy hamburger...
And Tom had the Tri-Corner Sandwich. (Which was roast beef.)
I don't think either of us finished our meals but you better believe I finished off that cheese!!
And you also better believe we got dessert!!! It was the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake and it was soooo good!
Love LTT - have not done it the past few trips - your pictures are making me think it goes on the next trip's list!
After lunch, we headed back over to Splash Mountain for our FP return time.
Splash Mountain is probably my favorite ride in all of WDW, if I HAD to pick one. It's got all the elements of what makes a great ride. It's got the story, the music, the animatronics, the slow boat ride and the thrill ride ALL IN ONE! So I was pretty happy to be getting on this ride at the moment.
Right as we were getting on the boat, I commented on how wet the seat was and the man in the row next to us (who ended up in the log behind us) struck up a convo with us. He was there celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary. He said he and his wife have been going to WDW since it opened and now he takes his grandkids. He was riding by himself because she doesn't like to ride.
He was clearly as happy to be on this ride as I was and we said we hoped we'd still be coming to WDW when we're celebrating OUR 40th anniversary. The best part, was that he was singing along to the music inside the ride!! It was so cute! I mean, we always sing along but to hear someone else enjoying the things that you love is really special, I think. That's why I'm so obsesesed with people who tell me they are going to WDW, because I want to make sure they know everything and are totally prepared so that they have an awesome time!
Well, anyway, I'm rambling again. The ride was awesome and we got soaked but we didn't care.
After Splash, we decided to leave and head back to the Poly. On the way out, we stopped in Exposition hall to see if we can find Mr. Toad's ride vehicle again. Here's me when I found the ride vehicle behind a random curtain in 2006.
Another new thing for me to look for! I love finding this "trivia" on the boards!!
Well, imagine my surprise when this time, I found THIS behind the curtain...NOTHING!!
Love your trip report!
