Thanks for all the kind comments on the tie dye shirts I made. What I did was take advantage of Michael's craft stores % off coupons. I figure that the shirts cost me $5.00 each to make, when figuring the entire cost out. I bought the large tie dye kit which makes 80 shirts. You need to buy at least one box of soda ash to soak the shirts in for 20 mins before dying them. I made 33 shirts, 12 each for the kids and 9 for me, as my thinking is why should the kids have all the fun??? The Galaxy design I found online, and was easy to do, once I got the hang of the prep on it. It took me combined 5 1/2 hrs over 2 days to do. If I were to do it again, which I intend to make another batch for the kids probably at the end of the year, I would do the following: I had 1 box of soda ash, turns out I needed 2 boxes, but made do with what I had. I would also use the round grate that I was using over a bucket, as you get alot over dye waste, and it's cleaner to do it over a bucket. Was using the grate over my desk covered in plastic, and problems with dye trying to get on the carpet. Had the over splatters contained by 99% due to excessive use of paper towels, that came in handy for cleaning up spills as they happen. It's not hard to do, but it's time intensive, but enjoyed the creative process. I would also soda ash and prep the shirts the day before, then dye them the next day, so long as you keep them covered in plastic. At least I've finally got the hang of doing them, and know what to do next time. Now it's off tomorrow to the largest garage sale in our city YAHOO!!! Let's see what mayhem I can get into there. Have a great evening everyone!
